DVD releases for 10/1

Recommended Posts

Guest C.H.U.D.

This is a fantastic week for releases, especially catalogue titles. Most of the stuff I've already picked up and it's great.

Bloodsport

Van Damme's breakthrough film finally arrives on DVD in widescreen.

Brotherhood of the Wolf

My favourite film of this year get's a terrific 3 disk SE release (in Canada). If you live in the U.S., order the Canadian SE, because the U.S. disc is horrible. If you haven't seen the film before, check it out, it's unreal.

Cat's Eye

A favourite film of mine from the 80's get's released in widescreen with director's commentary. It's a fun little dark comedy that looks amazing thanks to a nice transfer.

Elvira's Haunted Hills

Elvira's long awaited follow up film is here! Nuff said.

Firefox

Entertaining, somewhat dated sci-fiish Clint Eastwood movie shows up in digital format with a nice widescreen transfer and not much else.

Graduation Day

Cheesy 80's slasher arrives on DVD from Troma, so chances are the quality will suck, but the features will be decent.

Heartbreak Ridge

One of my favourite Eastwood movies of all time finally get's a DVD release in widescreen with a trailer and a low price tag.

It

Cult classic Stephen King min-series get's a long awaited release on disc featuring a multi commentary.

Kingdom of the Spiders

Killers spiders! William Shatner! Do I need to say more?

A Perfect World

Entertaining film starring Clint Eastwood (who also directs) and Kevin Costner arrives on DVD is a great looking widescreen transfer.

The Scorpion King

Entertaining, old school action film featuring a breathrough, tongue in cheek performance from The Rock get's a fully loaded digital release including a fun commentary by Rock himself.

Strange Brew

The Canadian cult classic could have used a commentary by the stars, but I'm just glad to have it on disc. Take off, eh?

'Till Next week.

It on DVD, eh? Maybe now I can finally see what the big deal is about this film.

Also, I'm not sure if its been released before or what, but The Man Who Fell to Earth gets a (re?)release this week. No special features to speak of, but its list price at amazon is only $10...

It's about time the new Elvira movie came out. I saw the trailer over a year ago. I wasn't expecting anything from it at all but that trailer was awesome and had me laughing my ass off.

Canada's still Region 1, right? I've never ordered a Canadian disc, and I'd hate to have the bloody thing not work in my player.

Could you guys let me know how the IT DVD is....and refresh my memory on the ending because if it's what i think it is, I'll pass.

The ending isn't all that horrible, it's just the F/X involved look horrible and cheap.

Kind of like the monster at the end of The Mummy Returns.

yeah...

RECOGNIZE...

The Canadian 3-disc'er of Brotherhood of the Wolf is gonna smoke the American version so pick it up as it IS Region 1. In fact, it even smokes the original Region 2 release.

I just finished watching Brotherhood of The Wolf and the logic is simple: Don't even attempt to front on that movie, cause it will fuck you up. From opening to closing frame, awesome, awesome stuff.

What about the rumors I read a while back that the commentary tracks on the Canadian SE were in French?

Also, if the Regions are the same why are there different editions in U.S. and Canada?

Canada gets special treatment for movies that look cheesy at a first glance, but wind up being good...**cough, cough**GINGER SNAPS**cough, cough**...I don't know why, but they do.

Dames, the ending to IT, as I recall it, is...

**SPOILER**

...the adults (minus the one that committed suicide) confront Pennywise in his true form: some cheesy-looking potato-spider. The nerd with asthma (I don't remember ANY of their names, it's been a few years since I've seen it) tries to do the "this is battery acid" thing again, but gets killed in the process because, I guess, imagination doesn't work on potato-spiders. Anyways, so the rest of them tackle the thing down, start kicking it and beating it, and then rip out its heart (or SOMETHING).

**END SPOILER**

I never really liked the ending, although the movie itself is great...with a better ending, it'd be the best King film next to Pet Semetary (which will forever freak me out, because my younger cousin Jamie looked just like Cage did when he was little).

Does anybody know of a website I can buy the Canadian version of Brotherhood of the Wolf that will ship it to the U.S.

This is why I started the Online Canadian DVD Retail thread.

Most of the sites given in that thread do ship to the states. I'll probably use the site i gave in that thread as it seems to be the cheaper site.

If all else fails, you can always use Ebay. I saw several a few weeks ago as pre order auctions. So i'm sure they still have some.

The reason some movies get special editions in Canada and crap editions in the U.S. (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Existenz, Ginger Snaps, The Hole) is that Canadian companies own exclusive rights to them, so they can control the DVD releases. Hell, The Hole hasn't even been released in the U.S. and there is already an SE for it here.

As for a Canadian retailer that ships to the U.S., I have heard good things about DVDSoon.

The 3-disc BOTW does have commentary, and yes it's in French, but the rest of the special features have subtitles.

Oh yeah, I picked up The Outer Limits: Season One today. It rocks!

Is that old or new "Outer Limits"? If new, which eps are in Season One? I used to watch that fairly regularly on Showtime but haven't seen it in years.

It's the old B&W series. It's the complete 1st season in order, 32 episodes in all. It's a great deal for the price.

Cool... I've only seen one or two episodes of the old Outer Limits.
