EL DANDY~!

So I was thinking...

Recommended Posts

IS Jyushin "Thunder" Lyger the greatest Junior of all time??? I'd say he is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, since he did so much to make it really big in Japan.

He most definitely is. And if you need evidence, check out Liger-Sammy 4/92. Just awesome, man.

Considering Sammy's ability as a worker at the time, that may be the single greatest one man show I've ever seen. What a match.

I haven't seen enough of his stuff yet but from what I have seen and what I have read and heard from others is that he is the best. I do have his two '97 Ohtani matches coming my way(hopefully) as well as a 4-hour comp of his early stuff.

Nope. Good flyer, but his work was often spotty and he was unable to carry anyone on his own. Probably the most carriable wrestlers I've ever seen, but I wouldn't even rank him in the same league as Lyger, Ohtani Benoit, Ultimo, and others.

Sasuke = an easy carry person.

Liger = the guy who can carry anyone.

You want the 2/9/97 Ohtani match, but the classic one is 3/17/96. I rewatched this last month and it completely blew me away. Absolutely terrific performances by both men. Ohtani in '96 should be near the top of people's Must See lists.

Otani 1996 made me a fan of Puro was back when. Too bad he never grew up properly.

I'm glad you all agree with me. It was either him, Sasuke, or Ohtani, so I needed somebody to step up and say whether he was. Thanks, doods...

Go watch any Takada.

The only Juniors matches that are MUST see's are:

4/92 Liger v Sammy

4/94 Benoit v Sasuke

1/96 Otani v Sammy

3/96 Otani v Liger

6/96 Benoit v Eddy

8/96 Dragon v Otani

2/97 Liger v Otani

3/96 Rey v Juve AAA Tijuana

Maybe one of the great Mpro 10 mans but beyond that, Juniors stuff is not mandatory at all.

Also add the Cibernetico 16-man classic from EMLL if you wanna talk about stuff like that...that's a forgotten one...and in all reality, Lyger was the man who MADE the juniors, but he is ALSO the one who made the people around him better.

Eh, the Cibernetico is okay but flashy matwork for no purpose does nothing for me...

But Lucha isnt my expertise either so who knows.

(Eddy/Rey is worthy as well)

Chris Jericho had a ***3/4 match with Ultimo Dragon on 7/7/95, so you might want that if you're a Jericho fan. It's his best match ever.

i cant stand Jericho for the most part. But that match is pretty good...all due to Dragon.

But there is so much else to see before you would need to track down that match.

I'd agree that 7/95 is Jericho's best match ever, with 12/95 vs. Benoit being somewhere behind that.

I'd also agree with Tim's list of essential juniors matches, though I have yet to see Liger/Ohtani 3/96, Benoit/Guererro 6/96, and Misterio/Guererra 3/96. I'm looking to see those soon, though.

And though it might be a bit of stretch, I think Liger/Sano 1/90 is a great look into how Jushin would take form as a worker later and just an awesome match in general. I wouldn't go so far as to call it essential, but the entire Liger/Sano feud is really stellar work and made me appreciate Liger all the more.

Liger/Sano is worthy too look at for non Junior reasons. I would watch it to see how a moved base/body part feud is built properly with the final payoff being more than rewarding.

I wish Liger was a heavyweight and wrestled for AJPW. If he did, I can only imagine how good he would be. He has a fabulous mind for wrestling and booking.

Where's the Norio Honaga love? :)

That Lyger comp is great btw (Barnett creation?). You get the whole early Yamada into Liger progression in a tight 4 hr package. The Sano feud is the capper, but you get nifty early gems like the Funaki match (the great lost pro-wrestler prodigy), Takada, Koshinaka, Hase etc. where you can see the potential coming out of the guys ears. Just a phenom for the time. Guess he did alright for himself.

Yes he is. Normally I'd put up my defences and argue for Benoit, but I bow to Lyger. The man is a God.

Objectively:

1. Lyger

2. Benoit

3.. ohtani

Subjectively, Ohtani is my favorite wrestler to watch.

Keep in mind I haven't seen near enough TMI

I can't say for certain, because wrestlers acts get old as time goes on. When I first saw Lyger I thought he was a god, but then I just got sick of him and his appeal wore off.

I'd say its either Lyger, Benoit, or Dynamite Kid.
