Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 So...I went to see one of those preview screenings of Red Dragon last night. It was far better than Hannibal (which I don't like). It was basically a very solid genre movie, which will only suffer by comparison to The Silence of the LAmbs. It was the first time I haven't walked out of the theater thinking I just saw a bad movie in months. Ralph Fiennes is awesome.
The Dames Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Thanks for keeping it spoiler free. Just one question....does it have any "gross out" moments like Hannibal did? Dames
Guest Some Guy Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I'm thining of dragging my girl to see it, she owes me after Sweet Home Alabama. Oh yeah, answer Dames' question. I'm curious as well.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 None that I can recall. Certainly nothing to the extent of Hannibal or even close. I put a short apoiler free review up at smarktalk. It's hard to review a movie like this without going into spoiler detail...so it's pretty short. But I don't give anything away that you can't see for yourself in the preview, or anything that is kept secret.
Guest Daredevil21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I've only seen Silence of the Lambs mainly cause I haven't heard many good things about Hannibal. Wasn't a main problem in Hannibal was that gore was used as a replacement to a good story? I've read that Lector doesn't even seem like the same character in Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal; is that the case here?
The Dames Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 ....the word is spelled role, Bps. Just trying to help.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Bah! I spell words the way I feel they should be spelt
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Was it pretty much just Manhunter with a well known cast and big budget?
Guest Goodear Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 It was the first time I haven't walked out of the theater thinking I just saw a bad movie in months. Someone obviously hasen't seen The Banger Sisters...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I never saw Manhunter, but my friend who I saw it with said that it was very much like MAnhunter... but he liked this movie and didn't like that one. So...I dunno.
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Okay I'm confused. Was Manhunter a movie version of the book Red Dragon just with a different name? Or just a similar movie to the book? Cause the book Red Dragon has been around for awhile.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Manhunter was the filming of Red Dragon just with a different movie name. Red Dragon the book was the first one of the Hannibal series that was written.
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Who all was in Manhunter? I don't think I've ever seen it.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Manhunter was a movie based on the book Red Dragon...Red Dragon seems to be the same movie with a bigger cast. It could have just as easily been called Red Dragon...why it wasn't, I dunno. Manhunter was very good actually. And the guy that played Hannibal (Brian Cox, did a nice job) had a pretty small part, I'm sure they uped it for Red Dragon.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Yeah, Manhunter doesn't include the scenes that begin Red Dragon: *SLIGHT SPOILER* Hannibal helping Graham (Norton) and getting caught. *End SPOILER*
Guest El Satanico Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 To me Red Dragon looks like the same story as Silence. Hannibal helping an FBI agent catch a serial killer. But i'll still see it regardless, because of the cast.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Are any of the novels about Hannibal Lecter before he was captured? Because wasn't Hannibal about after his escape at the end of Silence of the Lambs.
Guest converge241 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 there arent any novels but they are talking about doing another movie. I hope they dont ever do any of the stuff that was left out of the hannibal book *spoiler (i guess)* ..like about nazis eating his little sister and thats what made him one..
Guest Some Guy Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I didn't really like Manhunter, but I think that's more because i'm so used to Hopkins as Hanibal than the quality of the movie itself. Anthony Hopkins is Hanibal to me, not teh guy from Manhunter.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 BUT...Brain Cox from manhunter was Hannibal first. He didn't do a bad job...but Hopkins perfected the roll. So technically he's the original Hannibal...BUT S.O.T.L. was the bigger budget movie so that got more attention
Guest Some Guy Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I saw Manhunter after seeing both Hopkin's movies. I got it for half price or something when I got Hanibal.
Guest TUS_02 Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 I just saw an advanced screening of it myself and I loved it... there's really not too much to give away, but it was perfectly done all around.
Guest gwf0704 Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 Who all was in Manhunter? I don't think I've ever seen it. William Peterson from CSI played the original role that Norton plays, and its actually pretty good and I think Michael Mann directed the pic. I actually saw Manhunter first and then Silence of the Lambs and its a good one/two companion pic, so in reality, Silence is the sequel to Manhunter.....
Guest Flyboy Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 Go to the movie to watch Red Dragon? Pfft... I just downloaded it. I was really impressed by it, and thought it was damned good. Some good surprises throughout, and I really have no complaints. I would recommended seeing it, rather you like horror/suspense or not. Now, I want to go watch The Silence Of the Lambs.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 Silence of the Lambs is in my DVD player as we speak
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 I caught it at the movies..and it's great, as I'd hoped it would be. Now I'll finally get around to watching Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal..
Guest Flyboy Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 *damns bps for having a DVD player AND Silence of the Lambs* *damns EPD for not being on MSN*
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 Actually, just bought the Hannibal and SOTL discs in a box for like $19. DVD player, Big TV, Dolby Surround..I'm set.
Guest Flyboy Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 >_< You didn't have time to buy me a DVD player? *walks off while cursing*
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 Just saw Red Dragon. It's more like SOTL than Hannibal. For the Record: I have both on DVD. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!! COVER YOUR EYES!!! I don't blame Lector for what he did to that orchestra musician -- he sucked...
