Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 5, 2002 The book to Hannibal was much, MUCH better than the movie. The movie left out a fairly important character, and changed the ending. The ending to the book would've been fantastic on film, too. *Book spoiler* I mean, the end of the book had Clarice and Hannibal hooking up, and enjoying an evening on the town in Rio, I have no idea why they didn't incorporate that into the movie, the lack of Margot Verger took quite a bit away from the movie too, since she was the one who killed Mason. They didn't really give Cordell much motivation to do what he did, either. I just watched Red Dragon tonight, and enjoyed it. I still haven't read the book though, so my opinion may change. Ralph Fiennes and Edward Norton were fantastic. Lecter just wasn't Lecter, though. He wasn't nearly sick enough, but at least they made it a point to show his good tastes, which is vital to his character. Minor point, but why didn't they have him kill the violinist as in the book instead of the flute player? Changing a minor detail like that didn't really serve a purpose. The Dames 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2002 I saw Red Dragon last night and I would go as far as to say that it was better than the Silence of the Lambs. The Tooth Fairy REALLY creeped me out and I think he was even more messed up than Buffalo Bill. I was very happy that they got most of the original characters from Silence to come back to play their old parts. Definitely gets a thumbs up from me...probably the best movie I've seen all year. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted October 5, 2002 Um...no As good as Fiennes was...that was in NO way better than one of the greatest films ever made. Somebody needs to go rewatch Buffalo Bill keeping his captive in the basement while tucking his dick back and dancing in front of the mirror.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2002 See, thats the thing....I've always thought that Silence was quite overrated. As for Buffalo Bill, he wanted to be transsexual, so what? The whole skin lotion scene is pretty infamous, but he wasn't as screwed up as Dolorhyde, IMO. Then again, its just my opinion. Dames
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted October 5, 2002 I always though Silence of the Lambs was overrated too. It was a good movie though. I can't stand Jodie Foster either...........
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I saw it tonight, and considering how low my expectations were, I really enjoyed it. Even though it was directed by Brett Ratner, who hasn't shown much skill as a director, I was suprised what a good job he did. The cast was great, especially Ralph Fiennes, who did a great job creating a tragic villain. I'd rank it above Hannibal (which I like more than most it seems), but behind Silence of the Lambs. I'm a fan of Manhunter as well, but I'd like to avoid comparisons.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I just saw it. It was a pretty good movie. Better than Hannibal by far. I liked Silence of the Lambs better though (and I really didn't like that very much). EDIT: I just want to say I do think that Manhunter is a better film. I actually think Cox played a better Hannibal than Hopkins did.
