damn! i don't know if anyone else feels the same way but i can hardly belive that owen hart has been dead for over 3 years now and that the match took place 3 years ago to the day. seriously, i'm glad that jhawk wrote this article. it reminds me that wrestling is a scummy business that can produce great works of art despite or because of tragedy.

See, once I finally saw it I was amazed that people don't appreciate exactly how good that match is. Go figure.

When I realized that today was the anniversary of that match, I checked to see what was going on this month in WWE history. Another interesting tidbit for October 4th:

10/4/97 – Brian Pillman wrestles his last match in St. Paul, MN when he is defeated by Goldust. That night, Pillman would go to sleep in his hotel room and never wake up. Other bouts on this show included tag champs the Headbangers defeating Los Boricuas, the Legion of Doom defeating the Godwinns, Triple H defeating Jim Neidhart, and the Undertaker defeating World Champion Bret Hart via disqualification.

The following day was Badd Blood and Monday's edition of Raw was held at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, where Owen was killed.

Dude, that is just freaky. If I'm in any related to the Harts, I might avoid the KC leg of the tours from now on.

BTW, I love your site man. Keep up the good work.

Good review. I don't agree with it at all, but I think it's important to remember wrestling history in this way because wrestling is always so focused on forgetting its past. Nice to see someone taking a look back at the last classy thing WCW ever did as company. Too bad it wasn't the classic Hart/Benoit match that everyone wants it to be.

Not possitive, but I'm pretty sure this was directed at me in some form or another. If so, I said my piece, backed up my points, explained why it wasn't even the best match that year, let alone best of all time, and why there was other stuff that year that completely blew it away. Let me know when you and others can do the same for your opinions, and I'm sure we'd have a fun little discussion.

Wow that was a really good review. I don't know if any of you know that there is a book out called "Broken Harts: The Life and Death of Owen Hart". It's written by his wife Martha Hart and she talks about her life as a teenager with Owen as well as his death and how she and her children are coping with their loss. I know it's available in Canada but I don't know if it's going to be released in the United States. You can order it online though.
