Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted October 7, 2002 All I got to say is...FUCK!!! GOD DAMN FUCKING POSERS!!! Today is out of uniform day at school (i go to a catholic school), and all I see were girls in collar shirts, with ties, baggie pants, sock around their arms, chain wallets, and braclets, all because of Avril Lavinge (she is hot IMO). Two years ago, they would be in belly showing shirts, skimpy shorts, tight shirts, following Britney Spears. Now the guys are also pretty bad. They have their Ecko and Fubu or some Punk label, because its hip. Now to me, they have watched too much MTV/Muchmusic to rot their fuckin brains out. Do these people have any music tastes instead of "Blink, Good Charolette, etc..." bands rules, because they do. God damn it it pisses me off. Its hard for me, wearing chain wallets, braclets, black pants, metal t-shirts (today it was a Dream Theater shirt, check them out.) my hair hanging down like a mullet (because I was too lazy to spike it). And people call me a fuckin poser...yet I've been wearing that type of clothing for 3 years, (not dream theater though). Agh...
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted October 7, 2002 in my experience, most anyone wearing a chain wallet is at least somewhat of a poser... but then we all are, in one way or another. Dream Theater is cool.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted October 7, 2002 I am glad I am out of high school. I remember one time I was at the mall, and saw some girl wearing a tie, and I just could not get over how truly stupid she looked. I could just imagine going to a whole school with people dressed like that. I doubt I could take it.
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted October 7, 2002 ...I still don't get what all this poser shit is all about. Seriously... poser, to me, is a word an elitist prick uses when he thinks that someone doesn't have 'status' enough to be doing something. Shit, I get called a poser all the time for listening to AC/DC... and I like the stuff. The word, imo, is bullshit.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted October 7, 2002 a poser is supposed to be someone who is into something (music for example), for the sole reason of the image, and not because they legitimately like it... I think most would agree that's a bad thing, but yeah, the word is overused
Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted October 7, 2002 poser is so overused and played out. Everyone is a poser just about.

Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted October 8, 2002 The poser phrase must be new because I never heard of it when I was in High School, but then again I never hung out with people who was into rock. So I guess thats why I dont know what the word mean.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 8, 2002 I usually just wear a plain one-color t-shirt and some jeans. Pretty much the only "image" related thing I've got is a couple tattoos and a faded bootleg slayer shirt.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted October 8, 2002 what is hip? tell me, tell me, if you think you know.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 8, 2002 Hip is me, that's all you need to know. Now, I agree with MVS on the use of poser as an elitist word. It exists EVERYWHERE, not just in rock fan circles, and I'm growing rather tired of hearing it. I think the supposed "real" fans of whatever pursuit someone is posing should be glad that other people are into something and giving it more exposure. I say it's an elitist thing mostly confined to people who consider themselves more enlightened or intelligent because of their pursuit because you don't see many Pop fans calling people posers. The whole idea sickens me, really. When most of these trends are things you would want to continue, why turn people off or try to force them to keep it a secret by calling them a poser when they try to publicly express their new fondness for something? And while girls wearing ties might not look great, it isn't bad either. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 9, 2002 Personally, I get off on seeing a chick in a business suit or wearing a necktie, but I'm gay like that... Nice! I've been quoted! Poseurs are just too weak-willed to find something they'll permanently like and stick with it. This year, the guys want to be sk8erz and the girls want to be punks. Within the coming years, I'm betting that torn stonewash jeans, black band t-shirts, and hair that looks TAKEN CARE OF will come back. Hey, guess what I've been wearing for the past 5 years? Stonewash jeans, black band t-shirts, and I've been taking care of my hair.
Guest Mr. Pink Report post Posted October 9, 2002 I, for one, hate MTV with a lust full of rage [© by Cyclone Comet] and hate Avril Lavigne's music (I would still pop her). But the word "poser" is used most often, IMO, in skateboarding. "You can't ollie? You're a poser!" "You can't switchflip? You're a poser!" So far, I'm a poser in skateboarding and.... Where am I going with this? *shoots everyone and steals diamonds*
Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted October 9, 2002 If it makes you feel any better, MTV ruined my generation, too.
Guest subliminal_animal Report post Posted October 9, 2002 I wear a chain wallet. Why not? It's nice, it was one dollar, and I'm not gonig to lose my wallet. No-brainer, son.
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted October 9, 2002 I'm betting that torn stonewash jeans, black band t-shirts, and hair that looks TAKEN CARE OF will come back. It will? FUCK~! I don't wanna be cool! No wait...My hair is an unkempt mess (I get haircuts once every 5 or 6 months, and I do comb it, but it never stays combed. I've actually been told that I have a natural mullet, even though my hair is the same length all around). Awesome. No cool-being for me. Sorry, but I hate trendy people. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 9, 2002 Ugh..exposure. The problem with that is when something is overexposed, it has to be sanitized so everyone can "enjoy" it. I'll use heavy metal as an example because it's something near and dear to me, and it's something I care about. For something to get played over the radio, and on TV, it has to abide by a set of rules and regulations we all know as "Standards and Practices." Can you imagine if tomorrow, Corpsevomit, or a band like that got signed by some huge record company, got paid millions of dollars, and had to put out X number of albums to abide by said contract. They can't put out a CD with songs that could never be used as singles, or were too vulgar and sick to be put on MTV. Every album that band would put out from that point on would completely alienate them from the fanbase that got them there, and embrace a bunch of gimps that go out and pick up some watered down piece of crap and think "Whoa man, this shit's fucking HEAVY." THAT is why I hate Nu Metal so much, it's a shitty fuckin' representation of heavy metal dressed in pop music's clothes. For a parallel, say you're really into rap, and the only thing that ever got played was The Fat Boys and Digital Underground, and everyone thought that was what most rap sounded like, wouldn't that get irritating? Pop music is just a watered down version of whatever genre you think you're listening to. If you LIKE that sanitized sound, well, bully for you, but it's not something I can listen to, will ever pay for, or even remotely respect. As far as something being the trend, or being cool or hip or whatever word you're looking for, well, I couldn't care less. I listen to one, and only one genre of music, per se, with a fistful of other bands I enjoy from other genres. If that makes me an elitist, good. The word in itself means I will only accept the "elite" in a certain thing. Ignore pop music and it will go away.
Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted October 9, 2002 AoO, we know your biased. And you aren't elitst. You just have set rules. Elitist are people who get upset if they see people buy CDs and dress the way the lead singer dresses. 80's hairband had their group of people. Madonna in the 80s made her own style. Arvil is bring back the punk look to women in main stream. it isn't "Wrong" for people to look or dress a way. Its wrong to not allow people to dress the way they want. This is America. People listen to a lot of different genres and dress right down the middle. People who only listen medal dress as such. Everyone does it, even if they don't notice it. Just some do it longer than others.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 9, 2002 I don't give a shit what people wear, I just find it unspeakably irritating and almost insulting when someone says something along the lines of, "Dude, I love punk music," or, "I love metal." and all they listen to are popular versions of that type of music, like Green Day and Metallica. THAT is a poser, and a laughable fool.
