A Holy Alliance to stop the Trolls

The title, "A Holy Alliance" refers to Metternich's plea in 1818 for monarchies to work together to crush revolutionaires. While this is nothing so dire, I think it's time we did something about these trolls. We must decide if we are collectivly going to:

 

A) Ignore them

 

B) Flame them

 

C) Immediatly Ban Them and Delete Their Posts.

 

Or any other ideas you might have. I used to post here under another name that was not banned and I'm sick to see how rampant trolling is in NHB.

Anyway, I like flaming trolls. Flaming trolls and other morons have been some of the best threads this forum has. Now I think if they go out of NHB or if they're racist or something like that then we should ban them. Otherwise I say humilate them.

That's certainly true. It's also been preached before, and no one has listened. The problem is, everyone wants to get their little faux witty barbs in and start a banning countdown instead of just leaving things well enough alone. Ignoring those who seek attention is always the best remedy; unfortunately, almost no one seems capable of implementing it.

Only if it's blatantly racist you should get banned for posting something here. If you make a joke about Jews being stupid, or Chinese people being slant-eyed chinks, you should be left alone, as long as it's clear you're joking and you don't go overboard. Some people are to sensitive to everything that says something not-so-nice about a specific group of people. Fuck, I'm half-Chinese and I don't give a shit if someone makes the previously-mentioned Chinese/Asian jokes. But don't do it out of hate, and don't do it to my face. I'm not tough, but I'll probably have a weapon.

Trolling is trolling no matter where it takes, and it shouldn't be tolerated. No Holds Barred means you can get away with more; it doesn't give you carte blanche to be a useless troll. Trolls will be banned here, just like in any other forum, and the same applies to bigots.

Okay but is there a difference between Trolls and Gimmick Posters?

 

I can get banning someone who runs around to every thread stinking it up (DJ Jeff) but banning someone who is an obvious gimmick (Metal Ed,etc.) and doesn't ruin threads but is enjoyable is different...isn't it?

It is different. Gimmick posters can fill a niche and contribute, a la Metal Ed. However, the gimmick poster has to be done really well. Most people think they can do it after seeing someone else try, but most people are apparently unfunny cretins. A bad gimmick poster is the same as a troll, IMO, and I treat them as such.
