"Kensuke Sasaki announces his permanent departure from New Japan

10/06/02-00:27

Kensuke Sasaki made the announcement in Tokyo a few hours ago that he will leave New Japan Pro Wrestling. Sasaki says that his contract with New Japan will expire in January and that he will not re-sign with the company. Sasaki says that he distrusts the company (New Japan). Sasaki said that his scheduled fight with Minoru Suzuki was not done well because he was often kept in the dark on details as to when it was going to happen and where it was going to happen. Sasaki didn't say what his next career move would be, but it was hinted that he would immediately work with Riki Choshu & Katsuji Nagashima for the "RikiNagashima" production group that will soon run wrestling shows."

I don't really know, but does this really affect NJPW in any way????

Eh, from most reports NJPW is going down the crapper anyways, so I doubt it. Just means Scott Norton is gonna get a big push, probably.

*Sigh*

El Dandy, most of the people who look at this board, or who care about this piece of news that you have given us, read the news sites that provide this information on a regular basis anyway, so we will already know about it. Message boards are for opinions and discussion, if you want to start a thread delivering news, impart your own opinion on it as well.

Your question seems ignorant as well, of course it's going to affect NJPW, Sasaki is one of their top guys. If you knew anything about the current puroresu scene, you would know this and surely wouldn't have asked such a daft question. Please start reading up on puroresu and learn about it if you are gonna post on this board on a regular basis. Thank you.

Lord Of The Curry, are you stuck in 1999?! A couple of points:

- NJPW is not going down the crapper, it is currently the best men's promotion in the world, in terms of both match quality and booking. Their drawing power is slowly but surely growing as well.

- Scott Norton has not been a force in NJPW for some time now, and only wrestles the occasional undercard match. He is not being pushed anytime soon.

Anyway, about the Sasaki thing. I think it is a shame as I like Sasaki, but I don't think this will be a serious blow to NJPW. For starters, he might not even leave the company as he hasn't actually handed his notice in yet. Also, there are plenty of other top guys in NJPW to take up the slack, and loads of 'young lions' ready and able to step up at some point in the next couple of years. I'm not worried about my favourite promotion in the wake of this, especially if the strong possibility of this being a big angle comes true.

Well, I just didn't understand it...that's all. Sasaki has been a stalwart for NJPW for so long and has always been a top draw. If he stayed, could he somehow bring NJPW out of the crapper that it is in right now???

ARGH! It's not in a crapper! And Sasaki *could* help it draw better along with the other top guys if they all work together to make each other better.

Course, if this whole thing is a big work to set up a new Zero-One style thing with DOJO RIKI, then the drawing power of someone like Riki Chosyu coupled with Sasaki will help out NJPW no end.

people got to start somewhere. I'm getting tired of people with nothing better on their hands than to dive into Puro ripping on people just starting to get into it. You want the sport to spread so you knock people for asking stupid questions? All that's going to do is turn them off of it. It's a forum for news and questions and opinions. I'm not knocking yours, but it just seems self destructive or elite thought going on here.

I know I sounded elitist and that I was ripping on El Dandy, but I was actually trying to help him understand the workings of a message board like this, and that people are not going to appreciate straight news flashes with nothing more, because we all already know about it. Also, he shows ignorance of the current state of puroresu, I encourage him and others like him to read up on puroresu and follow it for a bit before posting about it and trying to sound knowledgable.

I know because I did it when I first got interested in puroresu, and it got me nowhere. Just follow the federations, take opinions from those who know more, and try not to ask daft questions. Please.

A) Sasaki is not a top draw.

B) He isn't going anywhere.

I agree newsbits should be left out of this place - especially if the commentary on them is going to be so poor.

I believe he is one of the six top draws in NJPW at the moment. No one there draws huge numbers, but Sasaki is one of the guys that can get a decent gate.

Please do your homework or try not to paint with such a broad brush before making claims to that end - his main with Nagata only put 9K in Budokan. 9,000. Cheap Trick and Peter Frampton drew more than that. And being 'top six' in a promotion whose attendance has dropped off so much is like being 'one of the last six voted off Survivor'; boast all you want, you're still not getting any money.

About the "posting news stories" issue: It should be common knowledge by now that you shouldn't be doing that, not only because most of the people here have already seen it, but also because it takes away from the website's traffic; those who haven't read it won't need to visit the website to find out. It may not seem like this stuff makes any difference, but it does. I'm not a big fan of Mr. Arnold's, but he has a right to get credit for the news he provides just like everyone else. If you're going to post a news story, do it for a reason and post a link to the story, instead of just pasting the entire thing in the thread.

There's nothing elitist about it, trust me. It's common sense.
