Guest Mulatto Heat Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 yeah, i was floored when i saw benoit in the 94 tournament. he looked like a stick. I've never seen that tourney, but I did download a match of his from a 1993 Clash of the Champions against Brad Armstrong - I thought he was built like Jericho when he was in the cruiserweight division. He had to have started before 1995.
Guest Banky Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 I think Eddie is so good he might be able to transcend any previous WWE stereotype. This guy drips of natural, raw, pure charisma. Whether he is a face or a heel, he gets the crowd into his matches. Plus, when Eddie is working hard NOBODY is better - absolutly nobody. Right now Eddie's work is getting him a significant cult following from town to town. People respect his wrestling skills, along with cheering or jeering him. I could see Eddie as a face or heel World Champion. If pushed as a face, Vince should recognize that there is a significant Latino community that watches WWE and attends the shows, if he was smart he'd push Eddie's rich family history. Discuss what the Guerreros meant to Lucha Libre and Mexico in general. If Latino Americans recognize this guy has been a superstar back home, it would be someone to really cheer for. It has worked for Canadians with Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, and Chris Benoit - so why can't it work for Eddie? As a heel, Eddie could also go back to his straight up rudo style. He could blatently cheat, take big ass beatings from his larger advisaries, and STILL somehow-someway keep the title. CHEAT TO WIN. They don't need to jack that old gimmick, but they can use it without making knowledge of the actual catchphrase. I know there would most likely be resentment towards Eddie by Triple H, Undertaker, Kevin Nash, ect...but Vince needs to realize a change is in order. Just a simple attempt to elevate Eddie might work. He COULD be a huge star if presented correctly. I could see Eddie honestly being a more capable main event package than either Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho. The first major piece of the puzzle for the WWE is to do a Confidential piece on Eddie. Advertise that bitch for a good three weeks before it is broadcasted. Show snippits of the interviews on both RAW and Smackdown to lure the viewer in. Eddie's fascinated history would make him a feel good story, or an even more respected individual. Talk about him being the most succesful Latino wrestler in North American history, -His family history -discuss his history in Japan -his run in AAA as Los Gringos Locos -the death of Art Barr and his subsequent return to ECW to honor his friend discuss the orgins of the Frog Splash and how it was also done as a tribute to Barr -show hilights of his fantastic series of matches with Malenko that led him to getting WCW contracts -his wonderful WCW (especially in 97) run that got ruined by a devestating car crash on New Years 98 that nearly killed him -his speedy and triumphant return from a almost life taking crash -his jump to the WWE with the Radicalz, his addiction to pain killers that mirrored that of his late partner's and how it eventually got him fired -his time in rehab and becoming a born again Christian that changed his entire outlook on life -his return to the WWE were he had to start all over again to win over the fans -his latest WWE matches with RVD, Edge, and planned program with Steve Austin. How he has become a cult favorite based souly on his wrestling skills -where he sees himself in the future Have interviews with Chavo, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, and Dean Malenko - the men who are his real friends on the road. I swear to you, and I'd be shocked if it didn't work, that a solid well worked piece about Eddie like this would give him that extra emotion from the crowd. He has led a turbulant life that has brought him near the brink of death several times. So to answer your question, Eddie COULD be a World Champion, it is just depends if Vince has the balls to make it happen - I honestly feel Vince will surprise the whole lot of us.
Guest benoitrules2000 Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 The simple fact is if they put HALF the effort into promoting guerrero that they have and will put into promoting a HOSS like orton, guerrero would be a god right now. END OF STORY.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 It's plain and simple. Eddy exceeds the qualifications Vince himself has set for a main eventer. Height dosen't matter as much as you think..at least..when it comes to money. Height is nice, but something makes me think Vince would take a guy that can draw over say..Albert..any day. Given a shot at it, I think Guerrero would be a great main eventer. *shrugs* Especially when you look at what's there now. Trips, Taker, and Lesnar. I don't think anyone can tell me that Eddy isn't head and shoulders above those three. In terms of wrestling ability, in-ring charisma, and mic skills..Eddy kills all of 'em.
