Guest C.H.U.D. Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Not much this week. Infact, the rest of October is looking slow compared to the last couple of months. Scooby-Doo Silly, yet wierdly entertaining live action version of the classic cartoon is worth watching for Matthew Lillard's uncanny performance as Shaggy. The DVD includes cast commentary, music videos and deleted scenes. The Company of Wolves. Cult classic horror/fairy tale/werewolf film arrives on DVD in widescreen, without much in the way of special features. Insomnia Christopher Nolan's entertaining follow up to his groundbreaking Memento get's a nice SE with a deleted scene, commentary and more. Law & Order: Season One One of the most popular television shows ever starts it's run on DVD in a box set that has a decent price for the number of episodes, but is devoid of any special features. Windtalkers Although virtually ignored at the box office (the PC delay strikes again), I rather enjoyed this violent WWII film that features a great performance by little known actor Adam Beach. The DVD is barebones, so I'd expect an SE down the road. 'Till next week.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Alright, good you mentioned Insomnia. I was going to start a thread asking if it's worth buying. Figured i'd just wait for your weekly DVD releases thread. I'm getting Insomnia and Boondock Saints which has been marked down to $8.99.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 And the rest...not that I'm trying to steal CHUD's thunder or anything, but here's the rest of the crap that's coming out: October 15, 2002 • American Idol • Anaconda/Money Train • The Angel Levine • Big Knife • Casino Royale • Derailed • Exodus • Ghosts of Mars/Vampires • Hoodlum Priest • How to Murder Your Wife • Italian for Beginners • Jackie Chan Presents: Gen Y Cops • Life or Something Like It • The Professional/Replacement Killers • Ranma 1/2: Ranma Forever #3: Kiss Me, Cat • Rats • The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming • Sorority Boys • Stalker • They Crawl • Triumph of Love • Two Can Play That Game/The Brothers • World of Henry Orient
Guest razazteca Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I saw Sponge Bob Square Pants DVD at Wal-Mart the other day. 10 episodes for $15 seems reasonable and must have for fans of Nicktoons.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 10 episodes? That's pretty good for a non boxset cartoon series DVD.
Guest razazteca Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 its the Halloween special disc, the VHS only has 5 episodes
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Nothing to buy this week.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Im not gonna say anything about people over the age of 9 watching Sponge Bob. Lets just say my eyes were opened recently. Law and Order is too expensive.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Is Casino Royale the original, B&W, made-for-TV Bond flick or the parody?
Guest Smark Hammill Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I'm waiting for next week when E.T. and the Director's Cut of Search For Spock come out.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 For 6 DVDs Law and Order isn't that expensive. Simpsons boxset of 3 dvds went for around $30 so $60 for law and order is on the $10 per DVD boxset average.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Two lists of releases coming out, and yet the one I've been waiting for for months isn't mentioned on either? Boo! Come on guys... I can't be the only one who wants Something Weird's Hercules Against the Moon Men/The Witches Curse double feature, right? Right? Oh, and Barrel Entertainment is coming out with a sweet double-disc SE of Last House on Dead End Street as well. More info on that release can be found here.
Guest Mosh For Jesus Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Summerslam 2002 and Divas Undressed come out next week.

Simpsons boxset of 3 dvds went for around $30 so $60 for law and order is on the $10 per DVD boxset average. Buffy season 2 was 6 dvds, and that came out at around $40...I paid $38.88 for mine, plus tax... They really stick you on the Sopranos...13 episodes on just 4 disks for $80, OUCH! And Oz is 8 episodes on 3 disks for around $45-$50...they kill ya on the HBO shows
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Oh, and Barrel Entertainment is coming out with a sweet double-disc SE of Last House on Dead End Street as well. More info on that release can be found here. That doesn't come out until the week of 10/22, which is why I didn't mention it.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Is Casino Royale the original, B&W, made-for-TV Bond flick or the parody? The DVD features both versions, although the parody is the one that has the remastered sound and video. How is this movie? I was tempted to get it, but I don't know enough about either version.

I was confused since a few sites have advance reviews up already. I always wanted to get to do advance reviews, although I suppose I should work on getting a regular schedule for normal reviews before I think about that. How do sites get advance copies for review anyway? A lot of these sites, no offense, write some pretty crappy reviews.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 How is this movie? I was tempted to get it, but I don't know enough about either version. I haven't seen the tv movie, but I have seen the parody. It's perhaps not particularly good, but it's certainly weird, and it does feature among others Peter Sellers, John Huston, Orson Welles and Woody Allen. Then again, it's been a while since I last saw it. As I said I haven't seen the TV movie, but it does feature Peter Lorre as what is technically the first Bond villain.
The Dames Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 SpongeBob is a pretty smart cartoon for anyone who's watched it. I have to concur about the HBO shows. They really are expensive, but they have good extras. "Previously On" and the next episode previews on each episode, commentary tracks, deleted scenes and interviews make up for it somewhat. The Fox DVD's don't come with any of that....and a show like Buffy, sometimes you need the "Previously on Buffy The Vampire Slayer". 24 was barebones, dammit. GET IT ANYWAY. Dames
Guest areacode212 Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 When I went to Entertainment Outlet to buy the Canadian Brotherhood of the Wolf, I saw that they had L&O Season 1 for...$45.00~! (holy crap, an unintentional tilde bang!). I guess I'll be heading back there tomorrow.

On my old site, that's what I did. I got all kinds of crap even after the site got shut down. With the new site I haven't actually asked anybody. People have asked ME if they could send me stuff to review. Oh no...don't send me free stuff.
