Guest Anglesault Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Something that was great about old WWF music, you could ALWAYS tell who was coming out by the first chord or so. As evidenced by last night, when they ran that ad for WWF Anthology. As soon as I heard that first noise (Whatever the fuck that is in Bret's music) I almost jumped five feet. For a few seconds, I expected Bret to come out.
Guest chirs3 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I did. I record every show, since I'm usually out for half of it, so I hit PAUSE to stop the recording then get up to get a soda- *GUITAR* -I run and almost trip over a pillow to the remote, hit UNPAUSE, then look at the screen. WWE Anthology. FUCK!
Guest Anglesault Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 The show was so fucking boring, and damnit, that woke me up.
Guest chirs3 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 The show was so fucking boring, and damnit, that woke me up. Last night was the first time I can ever remember that I fell asleep during the show. Missed the main event too. Darn.
The Dames Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Last night, I marked out harder than I have in a LONG TIME in those few seconds. Sheer joy and surprise....turned to spite and anger. Dames
Guest Special K Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I think that's why they have the lame catchphrases at the beginning of each and every tune nowadays, they're all nu-metal. Back in the day, you heard the quitar squeal, it was bret. You heard the ghostly dopplering sound, it was Razor. You heard a brassy bombastic chord, it was Mr. Perfect.

And in almost every Taker theme...you hear a gong, it's Taker. You hear that weird modified guitar thing...it's Lesnar. You hear trumpets...it's Angle.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 HBK's theme was very recognizable as well.
Guest HartFan86 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 When I saw it say "It's coming" and Bret's music playing....My mouth dropped to the floor.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Yeah, Lesnar's is quite distinctive. Taker has horrible music: "You've done it noooooow, You've gone and made a big mistake..." Or some such shite.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 When I saw it say "It's coming" and Bret's music playing....My mouth dropped to the floor. I was like..."THE HELL!?" Because last I heard, Bret was in REALLY bad condition. Don't know the latest reports though.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I wasn't in the same room when Bret's music hit so I rushed down stairs and almost killed myself getting there and all I see is the stupid WWE Anthology logo.
Guest Banky Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 There would be more hype of a special return or some jazz like that before the notion of Bret coming back occurs - that said, it'll be a few more years IF he returns
Guest Eagan469 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I still want to know if they played it live in Montreal, and if they popped huge.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I still want to know if they played it live in Montreal, and if they popped huge. According to a few fans that were there, it did, they cheered...when the WWE Anthology logo came on, MEGA booing.
Guest candie45 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I still can't believe they showed that commercial in Montreal. It would actually be fun to be in the arena and pop like crazy then boo for a couple minutes. That was so like the Eddy skit with Austin's music.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I really thought he was coming back. I too was dozing off, but that got me up. DAMN YOU WWE!!!!!!
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 As soon as I heard that first noise (Whatever the fuck that is in Bret's music) I call it "The Whine." It's appropriate for both the noise and the wrestler it's attributed to.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Talk about screwing with the fans emotions...I was kind of half out of it myself till I heard the music...I poped wide awake and yelled "What the fuck?!"...damn Anthology, I ain't buying it

Cool attention to detail.

Cool attention to detail. If I remember correctly from watching my WrestleMania tapes of the past, and from when I started watching wrestling regularly..."The Whine" didn't become a part of Bret Hart's entrance music until shortly after Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart came into WWF again and aligned with Owen. They added "The Whine" to Bret's theme, and kept the original for Neidhart.

When Eddy came out to Austin's music during the Burial 3:16 eipsode of Raw, I was probably the only guy sitting in my seat when the glass shattered, because I knew better. Granted, I didn't have the net next to me do confirm things but I had a strong feeling they would swerve us a bit, and sure enough. But seeing that I was the only guy in the house that recognized he was gone, I was rolling when the place deflated and booed Eddy. Oh god, that was great. Seeing the reaction to that commercial would be ALMOST as priceless.
Guest TheHulkster Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I'm just glad it wasn't Real American. The commercial still pissed me off though. I miss Bret
Guest Anglesault Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Funny, I heard NOTHING whent they showed Bret during the IC video. Did they edit it out?
Guest HartFan86 Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 I bet next week they play either Real American or Austin's music to piss of people.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Actually, since SmackDown is Thursday, I'd expect they use Rock's music or Real American.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Next week, they'll probably play Austin's theme. That will have the fans pretty pissed. Damn, I miss Austin.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 The whine is a guitar thing, although I'm not sure what guitar thing. I'm fairly sure it's a slide heard with heavy distortion, but I'm probably wrong
The Dames Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Funny, I heard NOTHING whent they showed Bret during the IC video. Did they edit it out? During the IC title video, I didn't hear the crowd at all. The crowd doesn't tend to be mic'ed during video packages, so thats probably why. Dames
