Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: Pick a classic, any classic Worst: Sea of Love, Frankie and Johnny was a pretty weak film with Pacino in the lead, Dick Tracy not for Pacino but it was a pretty crappy flick
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 BEST: The Godfather WORST: The Devil's Advocate
Guest RobJohnstone Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: Scarface Worst: Was there a worst? Devils advocate was just an excellent piece of work by pacino Kahran, you have no idea what you are talking about. --Rob
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: I like the Pacino parts of Godfather II better than the first movie and a large part of that is his very intense performance. I'm also a mark for Scent of a Woman, which has a lot of great lines by him in it and a great ending scene. Worst: I've heard that Revolution was a dud, but I've never seen it. Of the ones I have, I'd go with Author! Author! It was dull and plodding and I didn't really buy Pacino as this struggling playwright family man. Has anybody seen Cruising?
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: Scarface Worst: Was there a worst? Devils advocate was just an excellent piece of work by pacino Kahran, you have no idea what you are talking about. --Rob Two words: Keanu Reeves
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 but Al Pacino was good in it. Best: three-way tie, Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Heat worst: Any Given Sunday and Scarecrow
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: SCAR F'N FACE Heat(One Of The Most Underrated Movies Ever) The Godfather Any Given Sunday(Guilty Pleasure) Worst: The Devil's Advocate
The Dames Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 Best: Scarface, of course. Worst: Simone Dames
Guest El Satanico Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 I've seen Cruising. It's a pretty good movie and i liked it. It's a good early performance from Pacino. Best: He has too many good movies to pick his "best". My favorite is Carlito's Way. Worst: It has to be Any Given Sunday because Pacino gave a weak performance.
Guest godthedog Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 best: 'godfather' I and II are pretty equal in terms of goodness as a movie, but pacino's performance in part II is better, so i'll go with that one. although you could reasonably put almost any of his movies from the 70s in this slot (dog day afternoon, serpico, etc). worst: appropriately enough, 'godfather' part III. i don't think any movie in film history has pissed me off so much. pacino wasn't even michael corleone at this point, he was a ham. coppola had deteriorated even more, going as far as putting SOFIA (the erik watts of film actors) in it. ugh.
Guest gwf0704 Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 Best: Dog Day Afternoon Worst: Revolution.
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 Best: Scarface is fucking brilliant, and one of my favorite movies of all time, but Dog Day Afternoon [which I JUST bought on DVD, as it's my second favorite movie of all time, next to Pulp Fiction] comes out a notch ahead, and his role as the desperate, panicked Sonny is gold. Worst: He's my favorite fucking actor of all time, and I'm supposed to name a BAD movie of his? Sure, I didn't enjoy Author! Author! or The Godfather: Part Three or even Dick Tracy but I thought Al did great in each of them. I'll have to settle with Panic in Needle Park as Al is just pretty "green" in the acting-depar--... wait... bah. I forgot about Any Given Sunday. I kinda enjoyed the movie, and Al was decent in it, but I often found myself thinking "Is he acting, or just yelling really loud and pretending that it's acting?"
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 This thread isn't about Pacino's performances. This is about the best movies that happen to have Al Pacino in it. Read the Jack Nicholson thread for more information.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 Come on, any given sunday was the shit. He played the perfect old school coach getting pushed out the door, and the ending was great. As for devil's advocate, has anyone ever seen a better played devil in a movie? --Rob
Guest El Satanico Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 Well the original best/worst thread brought up performances as well.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 17, 2002 Report Posted October 17, 2002 Well the original best/worst thread brought up performances as well. Ok. I stand corrected. His best performance was Dog Day Afternoon and his worst was Revolution.
Guest dreamer420 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 best: scarface heat the devils advocate insomnia worst: any given sunday
Guest The Hamburglar Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Best: Easily Godfather Part II. It can't be said to be better then the Godfather as they are really companion pieces, but Pacino is more important to Part II and pulls off a better performance. Worst: I haven't seen any of Pacino's bad films.
Guest redbaron51 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Best: Scarface Worst: Revolution
Guest imajackoff? Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 best: Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico worst: Any Given Sunday, Author! Author!
Guest godthedog Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Come on, any given sunday was the shit. He played the perfect old school coach getting pushed out the door, and the ending was great. As for devil's advocate, has anyone ever seen a better played devil in a movie? --Rob jack nicholson in 'the witches of eastwick'. 'any given sunday' is the perfect example of everything that is wrong with al pacino now. he didn't build a character, all he did was those trademark al pacino things, there was no real emotion or uniqueness behind it. no depth.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 he didn't build a character, all he did was those trademark al pacino things Hoo-hah! I love the Heat pimping. That is a criminally hated movie. Best: Godfathers 1, 2 (can't make a decision) Worst: Simone and Any Given Sunday. Pacino doesn't even act anymore, I think he has some kind of identity disorder that makes him think he's that froot loop from Scent of a Woman.
Guest What? Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Best: Scarface Dirty cock-a-roachs that don' vote for da best movie in awile? Say Hello to my little Friend! Worst: Any Given Sunday What this TEAM NEEDS IS some teamwork to GET THE BALL INTO THE endzone for the TOUCHDOWN!!
Guest Gamengiri2002 Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 I have seen every Pacino movie that I have found acreditted to him (short of The Local Stigmatic and Two Bits) and I have noticed that I have a love or hate relationship with each and every one of them, no shades of gray for me. LOVE Me, Natalie (maybe not love, but I liked it), The Panic in Needle Park, The Godfather, Serpico, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, ...And Justice for All, Scarface, Sea of Love, Dick Tracy, Glengarry Glen Ross, Scent of a Woman, Carlito's Way, Heat, Looking For Richard, Donnie Brasco, The Insider, Any Given Sunday, Chinese Coffee, Insomnia HATE Bobby Deerfield, Cruising, Author! Author!, Revolution, The Godfather Part III, Frankie and Johnny, City Hall, The Devil's Advocate, S1m0ne I think a 20 to 9 ratio is pretty good. And makes Pacino, in my opinion, the greatest actor of all time.
