SmarkBoard Greatest Wrestler of All Time.....

Recommended Posts

Guest Lord of The Curry

First off, YES I am stealing this idea from the Death Valley Driver board, so I best not be accused down the road.

I'm interested to see who this board would put up there as the best of all time, mainly because it doesn't seem as puro-heavy as the DVD board, as well as a little lighter on the more "old-school" stuff.

The idea is pretty basic: For one week, everybody gets to pimp out their 20 picks for best wrestler of all time, then, at the end of the week those pimping lists will be combined to form one gigantic voting list. The benefit of this is that it allows you to vote for guys whom you didn't think of when you made your top twenty. When the final list is compiled, everybody picks their top 10 wrestlers of all time, complete with reasons etc. That list is tabulated and a top 10 of all time is decided.

If anybody can think of things that could benefit this process, don't hesitate to tell me.

What is with this thing about just "guys"? I've seen a lot of wrestlers in my day, and Akira Hokuto - a woman - was better than just about everyone I've seen, save for perhaps Kawada and Jumbo.

Uh, why did you get the idea that it's all about guys? In case you're blind (which you must be), note that El Dandy picked women on his list, and I'm sure others will do the same.

Considering El Dandy isn't in this thread, that really says something about "blindness," now doesn't it?

I don't know how this is going to turn out since a lot of people on here aren't too familiar with Japanese Wrestling or the older stuff. Hopefully we don't end up seeing RVD or Raven ahead of Jumbo Tsuruta and Harley Race or something like that. It's worth a shot though.

My bad, I meant Tim Cooke. Either way, he had women listed and you, for some unknown reason, bitched about how it was just about guys.

Curry Man, I'm flattered that you think I'm Tim Cooke, but that's the wrong last name...and second, no doubt in my mind that Akira Hokuto is on my list. She fucking rules it. No doubt.

Your repeated use of the word "guys" as opposed to "wrestlers" indicated it was going to be a male-exclusive list, regardless of who Tim listed.

Perhaps you could write something constructive next time, instead of making a buffoon out of yourself with your dumbass "blind" insult.

Oh yes, quite the buffoon I was, what with everybody calling me and out and mocking me. I must learn better.

Hey, the point is that the list is for anybody, male or female.

question:

if the purpose for our lists now is just to get nominees for a master voting list, why does everybody keep listing the same wrestlers (kawada, flair, etc)? lord didn't mention that a wrestler needed a certain number of nominations to make the list, so just one mention of a wrestler assures his place on the list of nominees.

god- Eh, I dunno, it's just a basic "pimping" stage where everybody picks their own guys. It's more of an individuality thing then anything. Though, having read what you said, it would make sense for guys to have a certain amount of required votes to make the master list. That's a good idea, actually.

Tim Cooke- This list is designed for who you think is the BEST, not favorites and you've posted two lists. Which one are you going on? I'm assuming the first one, because the second was composed of your "favorites".

The first was a pimping list. You see, the concept you stole couldn't even be executed properly by you. So I decided in the first post to start a list that people could add on to get a fairly long list of candidates. That never happened.

Secondly, if this list is really "The Best", then 99% of the crackpots voting shouldn't count.

Well, it's an opinion list. Who you think should be voted the best of all time. You'll need to be able to back up your vote down the road, so I see no problem with some of the "crackpots" around here and their voting. So far the votes haven't been that bad, except for a couple glaring omissions (i think i saw HHH)......vote for who you want, just be prepared to back it up.

These are, to me, the best wrestlers of all-time, as they are among my favorites (and if your favorites aren't who you'd consider to be some of the best, then you have an odd taste in favorites). Seeing as how I have viewed very little puro (not even "pure" puro at that, as the only Japan-based promotions I've seen have been Big Japan and FMW), no puro workers will be on the list (outside of ONE person from FMW, who I feel rightfully deserves to be on this list, albeit maybe not in the top 20).

Ric Flair

Chris Benoit

Shawn Michaels

Bret Hart

Rey Misterio Jr.

Eddy Guerrero

Hayabusa

Kurt Angle

Owen Hart

Jake Roberts

Terry Funk

Dory Funk Jr.

Sting

Vader

Mikey Whipwreck

Christopher Daniels

See? Couldn't even make 20 with my lack of puro exposure.
