Moulin Rouge and Donnie Darko shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath. Except when I just did it then. But that is the only time, okay.

Moulin Rouge is a piece of crap by the way.

Moulin Rouge is split into two camps I guess, those who love it and those who don't. I'm in one but I know alot of people in the other.

And unless someone else comes forth and says how much the forgien films kick ass I think they should be in debate...if no one's ever heard of them then it's for the best. Cause if no one knows them then something a little more well known should be on the list.

Unless someone else has a better idea.

so 'the bicycle thief' is in debate and 'mallrats' isn't?

this is going to be the worst nominee list ever.

You rule dude. How can The Bicycle Thief not be up for it? Its considered to be one of the greats. Anyways, I'm torn between wanting to recommend something a little different and doing my three favourite, so I'll do both.

Actual nominations

Apocalypse Now

Less known stuff

David Lynch movies are crap. Nobody (not even David Lynch) understands them and if a movie makes no sence then its not worth watching.

Have you noticed that no one else is offering unwanted comments about the movies mentioned so far? If you don't like them, don't vote for them when the time comes. Let people name their favorite movies and let's get the list filled.

first, the only truly "nonsensical" movie lynch made, by my estimation, was 'lost highway'. all his others have a reasonable explanation. second, if you think a movie has to make sense on a literal level to be any good, you need to get your head out of your ass. there are some people who think that movies, as a medium, can best capture disorientation and dream-like states, and they gear their movies towards that; as opposed to a linear story that features characters with no ambiguity, which any book can capture just as easily (if not better). 'un chien andalou' purposely makes absolutely no sense at all, and it's considered to be the best short film ever made. why? because it's fun to watch what bunuel and dali do with the medium and use storytelling conventions for an effect that most people hadn't thought of before.

Un Chien Andalou is great, visually stimulating surrealism. Eraserhead is extremely dull, irritating surrealism IMO. Haven't seen anything else by Lynch though, so can't comment on him overall.
