Just saw the new Eminem video

I mean seriously...that last verse in that song had me marking out. Between Em and Nas's Lost tapes cd's hip hop...REAL hip hop is starting to get some attention again...thank GOD...of course the fact that a R&B song is on the top of the rap charts (Nelly & Kelly...I mean, noone raps in that song) still isn't a great sign.

But with his last album and the pure lyrics in this song, he officially has recieved his god status in hip-hop with me.

"Lose Yourself" is a tight track, man. I still think Em is the hottest MC right now, he's up there with Nas and Jay-Z. Ripper you mention Nas "Lost Tapes" album is it good like im been hearing?

Best rap is on the underground/college radio circuit, PERIOD. Eminem and whoever else on Top 40 are just corporate made hip hop designed to appeal to the masses. Yah of course their video is good with a few million dollars for the budget. Free your mind of Top 40 ANYTHING, and try something different.

I'm really attracted to Jurassic 5's "What's Golden", which I throw down on college radio.

Damn alternative crap; can't play much "loud, angry" music. Sandman play Hatebreed as much as he want.

I have "Lost Tapes"...I'd say it's one of if not Nas' best. It's worth buying.

As for Lose Yourself. I just heard it for the first time last night and I like it.

Is ANYTHING popular good to you fucks really? Jesus, Eminem is pretty decent, maybe not the best but just because they have money doesn't necessarily mean they all of a sudden suck..

my local rock radio station (KROQ) had a funny comemrcial going earlier this year, that went liek this..

"Indie!

What's that?

(yeah I like the White Stripes)

And indie is a person who likes all kinds of music..

(They're really good man, you should check em out)

...until it becomes popular!

(Nah I used to be into them but now they're all corporate and mainstream so they suck now)"

I swear 70% of the posters on this board fit that description. If not more like 90%. Gah.

It's not my fault that almost everything popular sucks.

The only truly "popular" bands that I really like that come to mind are Pink Floyd, The Doors, and Rush (if you're calling them popular).

Other than that, I have no use for any song EVER played at ANY time on MTV. I quite honestly cannot think of a single song I really like that's ever been played there.

I'm elitist death metal scum, though, so I'll leave the Eminem thread, whom I despise.

Have you ever stopped to think that you just mgiht hate a band BECAUSE they're popular and for not really much other good reason??

But then again I respect your opinion as a death metal elitist, so pretty much you'd be kinda excused from my rant. The people I'm talking about are the ignorant ones, I've already seen you have a pretty open mind, but you love what ya gotta love.

Yah meeean?

You know what doesnt surprise me of people, is that when they 'first' come out, they're the shit...but when they get hot and I mean very hot and popular people hate on em' Any money bet that when Limp came out ya was singing along with that nookie song.

Dont hate on someone that's doing their thing. I personally love Eminem as a artist and cannot wait to see the movie '8 mile' and I saw the video 'lose yourself' and the lyrics on that tract is hot.

People that hate Rap, why are you hear bashing on people that like rap...you know that this is going to be a rap thread, dont bash it. I personally am a diverse music lover, although I lean to more to rap since I am where it started.

I grew up with them, F5, Public Enemy, KRSone, Kool G rap, Rakim, NWA, EPMD, Shit, even the fat boys.

The person that said something about the 'lost tapes' of Nas...yeah, shit is tight, but the best that he came out with...I have to disagree with you, I feel that Nas first album 'Illmatic' is the best shit that he came out with because thats when he was/is his realest.

That's just my two cents.

Bo

I'm not coming in here to shit on rap at all. I don't like it, so I don't listen to it, so I don't care about it, and that's as far as that goes for me.

No I don't hate bands JUST because they're popular. Dillinger Escape Plan could suddenly go platinum tomorrow, and if their sound didn't decline and go to shit like everyone else, I'd still love them. The only problem is, for something to be popular, chances are that it has to be pretty tame, so it'll appeal to a wider audience. The vocals would have to get slowed down and cleared up so everyone could understand them, which would then make the music fall out of place, which would just throw the whole thing out of whack. Popularity is a symptom more than a cause. The cause is people having trouble moving out of that whole pop-dominated spectrum of crap.

If you took an Origin CD and played it for 100 random people on the street, 98 of them would fuckin' hate it. One would think it's ok, and the other person wouldn't really care either way.

When you accuse me of hating things because they are popular, you are missing the point. FM radio/MTV is simply a machine now, as opposed to ten years ago. Record companies are robots as opposes to 10 years ago. I would say the last HONEST thing to come from major record labels, was Grunge rock and Gangsta rap(the first wave, not the 10,000 clones). Since then, FM radio as a whole has been pure crap and record sale dropoffs has shown support for my argument. The quality is just not there, just about every artist sounds the same and there is an abundence of one-dimensional "artists" selling millions of records. I don't deny that a catchy song will get my attention once in awhile, but the song gets played out within a week and about 10 more songs sounding just like it, turn up within a month or two.

If you listen to and/or give a shit about rap music that doesn't play on your FM hit machine station, then it should be obvious that artists in the underground/college circuit can run circles around your god Eminem, lyrical-wise. The problem is that these guys in college aren't interested in being a character for TRL, they just practice their art, and then go to class or job. Some of these artists will get signed sometime down the road, and most likely abandon their roots, I don't blame them, they have to pay the bills, yet that doesn't make it right what the greedy scumbag record companies force these artists to do. My rant is not really about hip hop alone, but just music across the board. Clear Channel is ruining the whole music industry by, buying every local radio station in existence and demanding a certain, STRICT playlist. Don't get mad at me because I listen to alternative styles of music, get mad at your local radio stations and clear channel affiliates for not offering more alternatives to your daily dose of MTV shit.

Another thing. The show American Idol, I haven't seen a single episode, but the fact that people watched the series, and didn't see through that show exactly WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, and are not running out to buy KELLY's cd and make her the #1 artists in america, should be SICKENING to every MUSIC fan's stomach.

Once again folks, Disco can save us all.

Unless you want something a bit less radical: I offer you Kylie Minogue and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who can single-handedly save Pop.

Um, as for rock and stuff... um... damned if I know.

Sorry. Kiss and Disco are attached to each other. Perhaps Peter Kriss should hook up with Kylie Minogue, and they could call the resulting sub-genre "Krisco"

Wait, I take that back, that was harsh.

Just never put those two together in the same POST, let alone the same sentence.

Hey, it's all in good fun. Besides, I bet that the Bears would win, or else I'd keep Favre in my sig until the Pack lost, and I'm doing it. Picking on you for listening to disco is irrelevant in that matter. C'mon, I'm a fucking METALHEAD, you can't find something there? :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :D :P B-) :headbang: B-) :headbang:  :headbang: :boxing:
