Guest danielisthor Report post Posted October 20, 2002 back in the day, no matter who was fighting who, the champion always came out after the challanger. The challanger came to the ring then the champ. Nowadays, its who ever gets the biggest pop that comes out second. I find it disrespectful and demeaning to the champ to basically play second fiddle to a challanger who comes out after him. Also i find it disrespectful to the belt itself the way the Rock tosses it around, he never wears the title around his waist, its always casually tossed over his shoulder, he tosses it down in the ring, he'll drop it on the runway. Total lack of respect. How do you expect the fans to respect a title when the holder doesn't. this is the end of my rant. thank you, thank you very much
Guest kindredone Report post Posted October 20, 2002 makes since, good topic.I have thought that about Rock and a few others also. Its a belt, wear it!
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted October 20, 2002 I always felt that the title should be weared to the ring...and carried out after the match, that's just me though. And durring promos it could be held or worn... And the champ SHOULD come out last...instead of the guy who's going to get the bigger pop, in the cases of Austin and Rocky
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 WWE does a prety good job of this I think. Didn't Jericho come out after HHH at Mania? That's unthinkable.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Yeah Jericho came out after HHH because Drowning Pool played HHH's theme so they had to give that five minutes or so and it would look stupid to have Jericho stand out there the whole time. Hmm..I am surprised they didn't have Jericho come out first. But they did have Stephanie come out after Jericho with him making a big deal about waving her out. LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Bro, i completely agree with you! The belts signal that you're the best in what you do, and it should be treated with respect and honored. It should be a privilege to hold it. Unfortunately, you look now and you see the rock dragging it behind.....austin would just hold it like a piece of trash and toss it in the ring or on the ramp or entrance way. It's not too bad if you wear it on your shoulder like Chris Jericho used to with the 2 titles, but dont let it flopping around by dragging it. I also hated when buh-buh ray used to wear the damn thing around his freakin neck. As much as i hate to admit you'll never see guys like Triple H or Undertaker disrepecting it like that (even though they shouldnt be holding it in the first place). Look at Brock Lesnar, he gives the image that he has pride in carrying around his belt, and the thing looks great around the waist. I think the greatest showing of respect to it would be Bret Hart kissing it before every match....that was pure class. If i was the owner of the company i would demand the title be treated with the upmost respect so the fans can see it as a thing of honor. You dont see boxing , UFC, promotions in japan belts being treated like that. Wear the freakin thing....IT's called a BELT for a reason. The day I see the Rock wearing slacks or jeans to the ring with his damn gucci belt hanging from his hand then i'll shut my mouth...but, until then show some damn respect damnit
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 20, 2002 the person that comes out 2nd is the winner 90% of the time. the belt should always be warn around the waist of the champ.
Guest Prince Paul Report post Posted October 20, 2002 That's one thing you have to give Bret Hart. He kissed the WWF title before every defense, which I thought was gay at the time. But that's really something that's lacking today.
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Yeah, that been kind of bugging me too. Having the champ come out first. Thats not right. They earned the spot to walk in the ring last.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 IMO, Austin's character fit how he carried the belt. Not dragging it, but to his side. I don't get how it has anything to do with Rock, though. Also in IMO, the belt should be cherished and always worn on the waist or around the shoulder. And Wrestlemania 15 pissed me off with Rock coming out before Austin. That was gay. Guest jester Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Considering the value of the belts has been so diluted over the past while (being handed out, being defended in the middle of the show), I'm suprised anyone bothers with them at all.
Guest danielisthor Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Considering the value of the belts has been so diluted over the past while (being handed out, being defended in the middle of the show), I'm suprised anyone bothers with them at all. thats a good point as well, if the title was on the line, it was at the end of the show, main event, it didn't matter if Hogan was taking on Bob Orton, it was the final match, Lesnar hasn't defended his title on Smackdown as the main event as far as i know, its always at the end of hour 1 or at the beginning of hour 2, and he's the freaking champion for god's sake. He's the pinnacle of the entire freaking company and your telling us that he's not good enough to main event your programs?!?!?!?!
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted October 20, 2002 LoL.....man I forgot to mention that too. Everything daniel said...I strongly agree too.
Guest jester Report post Posted October 20, 2002 He's the pinnacle of the entire freaking company and your telling us that he's not good enough to main event your programs?!?!?!?! I think this is another reason why Brock's push has very little steam. The second they put the belt on him, it's not main event material. What message does that send? Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Diesel started it when he would drag the belt by his side. However, he treated the IC title with a lot of respect. Go figure....
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted October 20, 2002 I agree with all this. However, when Austin would whip the belt into the ring from about halfway up the ramp, I must admit I laughed every time.
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Nowadays, the champions really don't defend the titles on RAW & Smackdown, it's always non-title matches. Also, would you stay tuned to the end of the show, if you knew Brock was taking on Palumbo? Let the do it at the ned of the first hour.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted October 20, 2002 This isn't anything new. I remember the Honky Tonk Man as IC Champion and other Heel Tag Team Champions, coming out before some of their challengers. I think Savage came out before Steamboat at WM3, and he came out before Hogan at WM5.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Well, all good point about the champion coming out second and such... However, one thing I have to note: Only if it fits, the title around the waist would work. How would you deal with someone like...say...Rikishi if by some weird reason he got another title belt? The belt is only for a 48" waist...
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted October 20, 2002 And at WM5 Jesse Venutra picked up on that. He was saying what an egomaniac Hogan was b/c the champ never comes out first and Hogan should've come out first. That was all the event where he kept calling Hogan "the Luster".....*sigh* good ole' heel announcers. I miss em'.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Why do I have this weird memory of Rikishi wearing the IC belt? The worst case of champion being recently that i can think of is Armageddon 2000. Angle came out 4th, I think.
Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Oddly i was just watching that this morning and he did come out 4th.

They should get Jesse back when he's done being Gov. that's been talkd about enough though. I always liked the way Flair held the belt. He wore it to the ring (Underneath the robe so it was always like an unveiling) and whenever he had an interview he would hold it at his side neatly folded. ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 I always liked the way Flair held the belt. He wore it to the ring (Underneath the robe so it was always like an unveiling) and whenever he had an interview he would hold it at his side neatly folded. But McMahon later sorta stole the "hiding of the belt" thing when he was WWF Champion for all of a week. Remember the business suit unvealing? Though, if I were a champion in wrestling, I'd probably do the same. ^^
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted October 20, 2002 McMahon holding the belt was a disgrace. And the only reason he had it was so that HHH could win it in the 6-Pac challenge.....pfft.....
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Bret Hart wore the Belt under his leather jacket. And when he did take it off, he put it over his left shoulder so it was over his heart. A little lame, but it showed he cared. I remember him cutting a promo on Deisel, and saying how Deisel had no respect for the Title because he would drag it to the ring. ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Hmm...just remembered... Anyone remember the women's wrestler Bertha Faye? Remember when she, as Woman's CHampion, got extensions onto the belt so she could wear it around her waist? I don't know what made me remember that, but I just needed to type that. ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Remember Bobby Heenan making a Larger Belt for Andre for WM3? Heh...I remember that. Would have been neat. But back on the subject...I think the most...interesting...not around the waist wearings of a title bet was by Bubba Dudley (or Balls Mahoney)...when he had the tag team title worn around his neck (which Taker later stole with the Hardcore Title) Either that, or when Big Show wore the Hardcore Title around his bicep
