My bad. Did not know about the UK indies....I stand corrected. Though I would like to know if he was a *full* time UK INdy worker or just a "if you pay me good, I'll appear" indy guy.

From what I read in DK's book he did indies for only a little while before leaving for Calgary.

Right, I'm gonna start tallying up the votes.

Genius...you vote for whoever you want.

No need for smart remarks, pal. It didn't say you could vote for anyone, and said that this was the "final list", so what else is that supposed to mean?

And if Backlund is top 10, then I am a top 30 wrestler of all time.

My opinion differs from yours about Backlund in top 10, and the laws of probability are against you being in top 30.

Backlund's UWF work in the late eighties has actually gotten quite a bit of praise, especially the matches with Takada.

Not saying that he's near top ten, just that he's probably not as overrated as, say, Kurt Angle, judging by the entrants so far. It's better than Sting making the list, I suppose. Yeesh.

Don't mis-understand me, Backlund is a *fun* candidate. His UWF match vs. Takada on 12/22/88 is a GREAT match. He had some fun stuff in the WWF as well. But for being top 10 of all time, no chance in hell.

Tim, who would take Sting on a good day anytime over Mr. hennig, Mr. Michaels, Mr. Angle........but then again, I don't know the wrestlers themselves. DAMNIT!!

I've got to give some props to Sting, because he's on my list. He had the most atheleticism and energy in the ring I have ever seen. If it wasn't for his knee injury in early 1990 his career would have taken a bit better turn and he would have been the biggest draw in wrestling for years. Sting is probably the best wrestler who was involved in the most wrestlecrap and he was always over and always did his best.

On Backlund, he's an interesting case. He came right at the end of the more "technical" era and didn't have the charisma and character for the emerging "entertainment" elements that the WWF were incorporating. He was very vanilla in the ring and unassuming and really didn't hit his stride as a complete package until he became a crazy old man. I would say in both skill and character, he was very middle of the pack and I would rank him with a lot of other dependable and talented, if unspectacular workers like Tito Santana and Mike Rotundo.

I would also take Sting over Perfect and HBK cause Sting knew how to work a crowd and up until he took his 18 month vacation Sting was awesome. Even today I can watch a Sting match and still get into it.

I see.

Yes, I suppose Sting does deserve to be ranked above the Lords of Overselling. Watching some of the better Sting/Vader matches and then comparing them to how Shawn interacted with him is like night and day.

Sting knew how to sell and work with Vader and he knew how to make Vader look like the baddest motherfucker on the planet by being willing to do the job once in a while.
