It's late, I'm tired, so I felt like generalizing. However, I will now address all the directors you mentioned:

 

Spike Jonze--Has directed one feature length film that was good, but slightly overrated. I look forward to Adaption, but I'm not quite ready to put him in the "Give a Damn" club yet.

 

Christopher Nolan--I haven't seen Following, but I liked Memento and Insomnia. I'd see his next film, but I don't exactly love him or anything.

 

Guy Ritchie--He sucks.

 

David Lynch--Wildly inconsistent. He's great almost as often as he's awful.

 

Richard Linklater--He's good. I should very well give a damn about him; Waking Life was enough to make up for the turd that was The Newton Boys.

 

Curtis Hanson--Has been making movies for years. Yeah, within the last five, he's displayed amazing talent outside of genre pictures (I loved both L.A. Confidential and Wonder Boys), yet I don't have a hard-on to see 8 Mile.

 

Darren Aronofsky--Another director I do give a damn about. Curse me for generalizing.

 

Todd Solondz--I'd agree with you if he never made the putrid bilge that is Storytelling. I can forgive him for Fear, Anxiety and Depression, and I loved Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness, but Storytelling has severely shaken my faith in him. Severely.

 

Cameron Crowe--He makes good stuff, but I never thought he was that great.

 

Tim Roth--See Spike Jonze.

 

David Fincher--See David Lynch.

 

Terry Zwigoff--Another guy I should give a damn about. My apologies.
