PROMO: What's The PPV Name Again?

Tom Flesher and Mak Francis are in the locker room, Mak still sweating from his battle with Thoth and Perfect Bo, Tom still exhausted from his battle with CIA. Mak, towelling off, looks at Tom pleadingly.

 

"What the fuck do you want me to do about it, Tom? They pulled this shit with us all the time in the JL with the SWO."

 

"Yeah, well, this isn't the JL. Stubby's not Edwin, and he's not trying to hold us down. And most importantly, Mak, I'm not Matt Myers... so don't expect this to be easy."

 

"What are you babbling about?"

 

"Mak, you weren't supposed to WIN it... god. You were supposed to soften Thoth up so I could send him back to Aechiba."

 

Mak glares at him. "You told me to go out there and do everything I could to take Thoth out."

 

"Yeah, but you weren't supposed to take him ALL the way out."

 

"Jesus, Flesher... you're not always going to get what you want. We're the best workers in the world, and you gotta expect people to try to turn us against each other. Didn't you learn anything watching the SWO two months ago?"

 

"Frankly, Mak, I haven't bothered watching the Juniors since Frost got bumped," Flesher says icily. "I'm not about to sit though Thor and Manson just so I can see Fugue and Mak, especially when they're beating the shit out of each other. You're forgetting, Mak... Wilson recruited you, not me."

 

Mak just stares at Flesher, half in anger, half in disbelief. Flesher cracks his neck.

 

"Mak, you're forfeiting at Dissention."

 

"What the FUCK?"

 

"You heard me. Just like in college, when the coach doesn't want to put out. You wrestled in college, you know how it works. People forfeited to Cael Sanderson all year so he wouldn't injure their top 197. They'll all be doing the same to Steven Mocco at super-heavy this year. Come out, tell the ref you're forfeiting, and we all go home happy."

 

"I can't believe you're giving me this shit, Flesher! I'm Mak Francis! I'm the fucking Franchise!"

 

"Cut the character, Mak. You and I both know the deal... I'm the teacher. You're the student. I don't need to get distracted with you when I'm worried about Thoth."

 

"Hey, Tom?"

 

Flesher doesn't look up, just grunting out a quick permission to speak.

 

"We're not going out drinking tonight. I'm in training for the pay-per-view." He pauses, then sardonically adds, "What's the name again?"

 

"Dissention, Mak. Not insubordination. I'll give you one more chance at this... because if we fight on Dissention, you're not walking out of there. I don't tolerate this shit, Mak. Not when we're down to four, not with TNT off.... surfing? What the fuck. Not with Mercury losing to Ash. Not with Tyler and Strangler walking away from us and Danny screwing up his shot at the Hardcore strap. And certainly not with Annie tied up in her silly little pissing contest with Tod. Dammit, Mak, give it up. It's not like it'll be a contest anyway, so why do you want to risk injury? It's just so much easier this way, man."

 

Mak stares at Flesher. "Tom," he says in measured, angry tones, "you can't make me forfeit that match. I earned the title shot... and you're going to give it to me."

 

Flesher nods. "Then bring it on... but don't cry to me when you're on your back. No mercy, Mak. Just remember that. No mercy."

 

"You're damn right. No mercy... coach."

 

Mak kicks the door open and stalks out of the locker room, leaving Flesher alone. As he mutters, "Christ... I'm 22.... I don't need this shit," we...

Anyways, nice promo. I like how Tom brings up both his and Mak's college background. Nice reference. Again, you are probably the most active and solid writer in the fed. Nice job.

Very solid promo. It built tension by playing off of the characters well. They are so like each other that it's very easy for them to grate on each other and get bickering. It does seem that Flesher is taking Mak a little too lightly, but you can really play that into the story of the match. A couple more promos leading up to the ppv that expands the characters and storylines and shows the effects of this match on the Mag 7 would be awesome.

Great job, man. This is the kinda promo where, while at it's surface it seems like a straight wrestling angle promo, really gives insight into a character's mindset.

 

Cunning use of words and great structure. I liked it.

Man, good promo, and answers the questions of how this would be dealt with. At least I hope that both you and Mak will write you matches in a professional matter.
