I guess they're sure. Turns out it actually was two people.

Two Men Arrested in Sniper Case

1 hour, 16 minutes ago

By ALLEN BREED, Associated Press Writer

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Two men wanted for questioning in the wave of deadly sniper attacks were arrested early Thursday after they were found sleeping in their car at a Maryland rest stop, authorities said.

The arrests came amid a flurry of activity in the investigation of the attacks that have killed 10 people and wounded three others since Oct. 2.

The break occurred hours after authorities descended on a home in Tacoma, Wash., that was believed to hold clues important to the investigation. They then issued a nationwide alert for the car, spotted by a motorist and an attendant at the rest stop.

Members of the sniper task force arrested the men without incident at 3:19 a.m. off I-70 in Frederick County, Md., about 50 miles northwest of the nation's capital, said Larry Scott, an agent for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The men were arrested in a car that matched a description police gave at a midnight press briefing, said Maj. Greg Shipley, a spokesman for the Maryland State Police.

"I don't know what their reaction was," Shipley said. "It wasn't an aggressive one."

Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose, who is leading the investigation, said John Allen Muhammad, 42, was being sought for questioning in the slayings and called him "armed and dangerous." Muhammad was said to be traveling with a juvenile, identified by a law enforcement source as 17-year-old Lee Malvo.

The relationship between Muhammad, who also goes by the name John Allen Williams, and the teen was not clear, but several newspapers reported that Malvo is Muhammad's stepson.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation told The Associated Press that "I'm confident that these are indeed the people" sought in the killings.

"The evidence is all there and because of things we've received in the communications," the source said on the condition on anonymity. "It fits together with evidence they've collected in the last couple days."

Several federal sources told the Seattle Times that Muhammad and Malvo may have been motivated by anti-American sentiments in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Both were known to speak sympathetically about the men who hijacked jetliners over Washington, New York and Pennsylvania, the sources said.

But neither man was believed to be associated with the al-Qaida terrorist network, sources said.

The Times reported that Muhammed was stationed at Fort Lewis outside Tacoma in the 1980s, served in the Gulf War (news - web sites) and was later stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. Malvo, who authorities said is a citizen of Jamaica, attended high school in Bellingham, Wash., last year.

Shipley said the men were being transported to Montgomery County, where the investigation is based.

The witnesses at the rest stop called police at 1 a.m. after they spotted the men sleeping inside one of the cars sought in the investigation — a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice.

Moose had cautioned that it shouldn't be assumed Muhammad is involved in any of the shootings that have stricken the Washington area since Oct. 2.

On Wednesday, authorities opened two new avenues in the investigation: FBI (news - web sites) agents spent hours at the Tacoma home, eventually carting away a tree stump from the yard and other potential evidence in a U-Haul truck.

And in Montgomery, Ala., Mayor Bobby Bright said federal authorities were investigating whether a fatal shooting there last month was linked to the sniper.

Bright said a caller to the sniper investigation tip line apparently claimed responsibility for the sniper shootings and the Montgomery shooting Sept. 21. One woman was killed and another wounded.

A law enforcement source told the AP that police found a piece of paper at the scene of the Alabama shooting that bore Malvo's fingerprints. Police then traced Malvo to the Tacoma home, where he had been living with Williams, a source told the AP.

Late Wednesday night, Moose held a media briefing here he issued his latest cryptic message in his ongoing dialogue with the sniper.

"You have indicated that you want us to do and say certain things. You've asked us to say, 'We have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose.' We understand that hearing us say this is important to you," Moose said.

He also expressed frustration at the failure to make contact despite the sniper's repeated attempts through "notes, indirect messages and calls to other jurisdictions." He asked the sniper to call.

A Fort Lewis spokesman did not return a call for comment on whether Muhammad was stationed on the base.

Felix Strozier, who ran a karate school with Williams in 1997 and 1998, said Williams told him he had been in the Army but did not say where.

Pfc. Chris Waters, a Fort Lewis soldier who lives across the street from the Tacoma home, said he called police after hearing gunshots in the neighborhood nearly every day in January.

"It sounded like a high-powered rifle such as an M-16," he said. "Never more than three shots at a time. Pow. Pow. Pow."

Dean Resop, who lives a block away, said quite a few tenants had been in and out of the home.

"Makes you want to watch your neighbors closer," said Resop, who has lived in the area seven years.

FBI agents also visited Bellingham High School, 90 miles north of Seattle, on Wednesday. Mayor Mark Asmundson told the Bellingham Herald the agents were apparently seeking information on a male teenager who once attended the school and an older man. He said both left the area about nine months ago.

On my local news it said Williams is a Gulf War vet who was discharged (circumstances unknown), who converted to Islam and changed his last name to Mohammed from Williams, contrary to what it says in the report.

It is believed Malvo is a Jamaican citizen.

Mohomed did look like the sketch for the Alabama robbery, but I don't think they are the snipers.

They were actually just discussing that on a program I was watching. Perhaps just to make him seem a little more devious, and harder to catch.

You really are cynical....THEY GOT THEM! They just had a press conference, they have the weapon and linked it to 11 of the shootings. These guys are toast, it's just a matter of which state gets to fry 'em...

Maybe people are disappointed it wasn't some uber-conspiracy involving hundreds of people around the country.

Good, they caught them. Now they just need to torture them both to death and videotape it as a warning to others.

Why would the FBI risk their credibility just to make these two appear guilty? What would be the point? Wouldn't they rather get information out of these two and continue tracking the real suspects? And why would the shooter(s), the same one(s) who angrily called and wrote letters to the police with some sort of agenda on their mind(s), go 180 and pretend like it was the two they caught?

Think before you post, dude. If they make them look guilty, then chances are THEY ARE GUILTY.

Mareny hates me because he is an insecure bully.

Ok, the FBI and police have screwed up NUMEROUS times in making people appear guilty, DNA has turned over lots of rape cases, and at the time of the post, THE GUN WASNT LINKED YET! SO FUCK YALL. Remember these are the same group of ppl, whos leader said ON NATIONAL TV, WE WERE INCOMPETIENT.(In regards to 9-11) And the guy still has his job as the lead director of the FBI.

You can fake evidance, once a guys in custady, they got the prints, they can add them to anything. Im not saying this is happening, Im saying it can happen. Hell this notion helped get OJ free.

Remember Richard Jewel, he called in about the pack back at the olympics, they then said he did it, all they did was show he loved porn and then cleared him of all wrong doing. Yet they went after him with a vengance, despite him not doing it. IT HAPPENS PEOPLE!

The FBI and police have HARDONS for catching people, and sometimes they miss things and make big jumps. Case in point, Mumai Abul Jamal (sp). Just cause the guy was at the scene of a crime, doesnt mean he did it.(dont start the point of is he or isnt he guilty)

The FBI and Police are run by humans and humans make mistakes, they COULD have the wrong guys.

Why do you think Im called cynicalprofit. The word cynical isnt there for show.

You're cynical AND blind

Muhammad, 41, and Malvo were arrested at a Maryland rest stop on Thursday. Investigators said a rifle found in their car has been linked to 11 of the shootings; ballistics tests from two others were inconclusive.

I dont care if its an it, either way, Marney hates me. I apologize for calling her by the wrong sex, but I did not know.

Oh i agree he's guilty, but there is a strong group of people who think otherwise. I was just using their arguement as an example, but lets not start the arguement of his guilt here. Start a post about it if you must.

In really ironic news:

The vehicle driven by the suspects arrested yesterday in the Washington, D.C.-area sniper shootings was a former Bordentown Township-owned car sold by a Trenton used-car dealer, state officials said.

Sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad, 41, purchased the blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice on Sept. 10 from Sure Shot Auto Sales Inc. in Trenton, (NJ).

The car was registered the next day at the state Division of Motor Vehicles office in Camden, using a Camden address, said Micah Rasmussen, spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

"There doesn't appear to be anything that's irregular about the sale," Rasmussen said.

The township sold the car to Sure Shot last October. Muhammad and another Camden man paid $250 for the car, which had 146,975 miles on it at the time of sale, he said.

Muhammad and John Lee Malvo, a 17-year-old Jamaican national originally reported to be Muhammad's stepson, were arrested at a rest stop on Interstate 70 in Maryland as they slept in a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice with New Jersey license plates NDA-21Z.

Muhammad titled and registered the car on the first anniversary of the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, said Edmond Bonnette, the agent in charge of the Camden DMV office.

Bonnette said he remembers the day well because of a bomb threat. The threat was called in to the office at 8:45 a.m. Muhammad registered the car at 8:53 a.m., eight minutes before police evacuated the building due to the threat.

So, Im wondering

1 - Who was the other person that helped him pay for the car?

2. How many miles are on the car now? He would have had to put a lot of miles on the car driving around for 3 1/2 weeks.

3. Who called in the bomb threat?

4. How ironic is it that he bought the car from a place called Sure Shot Auto Sales?

Mareny hates me because he is an insecure bully.

No, she hates you because you're an uninformed cretin.

Ok, the FBI and police have screwed up NUMEROUS times in making people appear guilty...

Law enforcement officials make mistakes. They're only human, so it's going to happen. But all you do is bitch and whine about the times they get something wrong, and ignore the 97% of the time they get everything right. You're a serial whiner.

You can fake evidance, once a guys in custady, they got the prints, they can add them to anything.

They certainly can. So we're supposed to think the two men in custody aren't the shooters, just on the frighteningly small chance that some FBI dude would be willing to piss his whole career away by setting them up? I was never aware thay "cynical" meant "stupid," but you're really making quite the case for it. As a cynic myself, I'm ashamed the word "cynical" appears in your moniker, for you do it absolutely NO justice.

The FBI and police have HARDONS for catching people...

That might stem from the fact that it's their fucking job. Just a thought.

they COULD have the wrong guys.

Then there's an AWFUL lot of circumstantial evidence against these guys if they didn't do it. Based on what I've seen, it's safe to say they got their men.

The word cynical isnt there for show.

It may as well be. You're certainly not putting it to any kind of good use with your uninformed tirades, wild theories, and insultingly stupid what-ifs. Next time, pick a more fitting adjective.

Marney has stated that she bullies people while she is an adult, id say that is a reason to call her an bully. But that is MY opinon.

You just dont read anything I post do you, I said IT COULD HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY ARE HUMANS, I DIDNT STATE IT AS FACT.

Once again, look at Richard Jewel, they went after him and he was innocent. Hell They still dont know who killed the Ramsey kid. Law enforcement is generally given way to much leway when they make major mistakes.

But I admit, the cops do alot of good, but this high profile messing up shit is NOT GOOD. I understand they are over worked and underpaid, but notice how 2 planes crashed into a couple of buildings, id call that a pretty good reason to start firing people for incompentancy since they let it happen. Yet do you hear about a massive layoff in the FBI? No. The director of thr FBI was on national tv and stated he was incompetent, yet he is still in charge of the FBI...can you not see that is wrong? I'm sorry but the INSANE amount of screw ups that lead to 9-11, which were all EASILY fixable, are no excuse for what happened. All the branches were linked, yet none of them would share information, how wrong is that. A FBI guy suggest they could fly a plane into a building, his idea was ignored. A FBI agent, who cleared some of teh hijackers visa, or was working on it, i actively forget, is getting a 15,000 dollar bonus, for what?

Having a hardon to catch people and cathing the right people are two very differnt things. Good dective work is more imporant then just catching a guy who maybe did it. Good dective work will catch the right guy, and for the record, as more evidance is comming forward, they see to be doing good dective work.

Am I stupid becaue I propose an idea? Does putting out a question make me stupid? Does saying there is a possiblitiy make me look that unintellegent? WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING! I happen to not believe everyone in law enforcement is as just as they claim to be. Sorry for thinking that people on all levels might not be goodie-twoshoes. Sorry for purposeing a possibility. Heaven forbid other options are explored. Heaven forbid someone thinks there maybe something going on at a deeper level then what is shown. The FBI can make you look guilty or just about anything. They know the ins and outs of crime so it is possiby for them to do it. Not saying they are doing I am saying it is possible.

You keep forgetting about the realm of possiblity, they could have the wrong guys. Its not out of question untill ALL the evidance is laid out, and at the time of the posting and right now, not all the evidance is showing. While I am believing more and more these are the right guys, untill a full case is presented, I cant say for certain they are. I need to see all the evidance first, then decide. This is why we have juries. Just because a guy has a gun that was used to shoot someone doesnt mean he is the one who pulled the trigger.

And it should be noted some people have completely pissed all over their fbi careers to sell secrets to foreign countries. So I put nothing past any human.

And its colleged educated certin.

People bitch about my cynicasim, why, cause I am I the only one who notices this insane level of stupid shit? Am I the only one who knows we elected, and I use that word loosely, a C student to be our elected leader? Am I the only one who thinks going to war over 1 guy, who we still havent proven is involved in 9-11 other then being a member of the same group that the hijackers were a member of, is a really stupid fucking idea? (Its really over oil) HELL THE UN SAYS ITS A BAD IDEA. And when the UN agrees on something, thats pretty amazing. Call it whining, I call it telling it like it is. I'm not whining about my dog died so I need to kill myself, I am complaining because the people at the top are mostly MORONS! And im the only one who seems to notice or care. People wonder why this country is going down the toilet, mediocrity is being considered excellence. And no one cares...The top 40 of music is being DOMINATED by mediocrity, our leaders do thier best to appease everyone, and get nothing done by doing it. (11,000 dollars and Im out of Amreica), mediocrity is being called super, when I graduated from college C students were getting jobs ahead of me, I had A's and B's and 2 C's in 2 years, yet I dont get offered a job and the C student who hardly showed up to class gets 4? Kids graduate from highschool without being able to read, yet its ok. Public education is reaching new levels of mediocrity by the year, yet we pump all our money into making more bombs and fighter planes that we dont need, and crash half of the time. Every time a Stealth bomber crashes, which is half the time, there goes 40 million or billion, I forget which it was, of our dollars, either way, theres our money, wasted. YET ITS ALL OK! WTF? I'm sick and tired of mediocrity being ok. Everyone just tends to nod their head and agree with whatever is being told or sold to them. Cigerattes, despite all proof that they kill you 100%, are still leagal. HELLO, MAYBE THEY SHOULDNT BE MADE! But no, tobacco industry greases the poloticians hands and they keep being made. This country is so god damn money oriented that its gonna bribe itself into the ground. And you know what they will do while its sinking, raise taxes. (Does that make me cynical enough???? DOES IT!) Corporations peddle sugar to kids, its the biggest drug in america, and all it does is get you addicated and fat. It keeps you awake so you can work more. WHAT THEY HELL IS WRONG WITH REAL FRUIT, WHY THE FUCK DO I NEED AN ARTIFICIAL LEMON FLAVOR? Everyday you are hawked something new and advertising agencies do their best to market it right so you will buy it. When you buy a tshirt, with any label on it, all you are is a free walking billboard. Yet its ok, it helps the place stay in business, no it helps employe the kids in tiawan who make it for cheap. This society is so excepting of EVERYTHING thats put in front of it that it makes me PUKE! (This is cynical, if you were a true cynic, this would be your boat.)You cant walk anywhere without something being sold to you, labels adorn everything, yet its all ok, despite the they are only their to help sell the product by putting that image in your head. This society is just, its ok, its not that bad. Um...hello, thats the same philosophy that got us to where we are today. We get worse and worse and no one wants to step forward and stop the madness. 11 year olds committing rape does even shock people anymore, teenagers killing eachother doesnt shock people anymore, violence is accepted as a way of life in parts of this country...HELLO, WAKE UP CALL, WE NEED TO FIX THIS! Yet our government is all about war and issues of internet porn, WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKING THIS COUNTRY GREAT, WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT MENTALITY? WHO GIVES A CRAP WHAT I BUY READ SAY OR DO SO LONG AS I HURT NO ONE ELSE? I dont care what anyone does so long as it meets that principle. Sure I disagree with people, but that doesnt mean I need to shoot them in the head over it. Yet that is the accepted method of conflict resolution by government and certain parts of our society. I complain because the world doesnt believe world peace is possible, yet I know it is. Sorry, it makes me cynical.

In other words, the stupid view.

There is no conspiracy. I didnt say fire the cop, fire the guys who knew something could have happened, but didnt bother to share the information with other brances of intellegence. Whats wrong with wanting people to be compitent about their jobs and not being glory hogs.
