Guest Anglesault Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 As we all know, the writing has been just as bad as alot of the wrestling this year. Let's see if we can name the top feuds of 2002. Remember, if the feud is booked poorly, but has good matches, it doesn't count (Angle/Benoit) or if the feud is booked somewhat well, but the matches suck (HHH/Bubba) that can count. I'll do mine later. Also, don't make yours so much of a list, but a commentary on the feuds.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Hmmm... Does that include feuds that ended for no reason? If so...Hurricane/Noble is my pick. There's also Angle/Benoit, and IMO...the short Rock/Hogan feud.
Guest HartFan86 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Angle/Edge is my personal feud of the year...it started from March of this year and it still goes. Plus, most of their matches have been ****+ including all the house shows over the summer.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 ...HartFan...you make me wonder... What would a feud between Bret Hart in his prime (about...hmm...1994/5) and Kurt Angle be like?
Guest Brian Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 What about Eddie/Edge? That ended far better for both guys, and they built off their feud and put on better matches as they went rather than going in reverse.

What would a feud between Bret Hart in his prime (about...hmm...1994/5) and Kurt Angle be like? Personally...Hart (Late 96-Late 97) vs. Angle (2001) would be amazing. The number of ****+ matches they would have would probably blow away anything in N.A...ever.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 What about Eddie/Edge? That ended far better for both guys, and they built off their feud and put on better matches as they went rather than going in reverse. That's true. Eddie/RVD was good in my eyes, even if it did little for their careers. It gave us that ladder match. Also...I kinda enjoyed Angle/Edge. Gave Angle his new, "Tougher" look.

Guest Brian Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 I would doubt it. Angle's selling would have to pick up. I'd much rather see Bret/Eddie and more Bret/Benoit after the last North American Classic.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 I'm with AS on this one, the feud started over........wait....what the fuck did it start over? Edge/Angle and Benoit/Angle have been killer in the ring, but appears to have been booked by somebody with downs syndrome of some shit.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 RVD/Eddie was ok in terms of angle and spawned some good action. Brock/Rock was done well, though I haven't seen the match I heard it was good. Rock/Hogan shouldn't count because it was just one match and the build up was horrible. Does Saturn/Funaki's tiny Metal series count?

No one looked stupid, they were feuding voer a title, and they were booked evenly. Also...I kinda enjoyed Angle/Edge. Gave Angle his new, "Tougher" look. Incompeteant bubling moron who gets his pants pulled dpwn and wears a wig?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Oh yeah, the year isn't over - Benoit/Angle will end up making it. Benoit/Guerrero will most likely occur soon.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Can we also add in that the feud HAS TO HAVE more than just 1 match in it? That way I don't have to hear how Jericho/Rock was feud of the year again. Rock/Hogan can count because they had the handicap tag match on RAW before MAnia that was right in with the feud storyline.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Oh yeah, the year isn't over - Benoit/Angle will end up making it. . Are you saying they can overcome two months of crap in the month or so left in this feud -or- Are you saying they are getting their because everything else has sucked?

Incompeteant bubling moron who gets his pants pulled dpwn and wears a wig? Er, after the wig bit. Angle, to me, looks more bad-ass bald than he did with hair. Then again, I may be biased...*rubs his own freshly shaven head*
Guest Brian Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 It was actually pretty well booked until Rock got killed. But Edge vs. Eddie, when you look at it over the progression of the feud rather than week by week, was probably the best. Eddie wanting to punk out this young, arrogant, good looking superstar, trying to mess-up his face at times.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Can we also add in that the feud HAS TO HAVE more than just 1 match in it? That way I don't have to hear how Jericho/Rock was feud of the year again. Would Hurricane/Noble be able to be considered? Don't remember if they had matches before their KotR match against each other. After I know they did though...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Are you saying they can overcome two months of crap in the month or so left in this feud -or- Are you saying they are getting their because everything else has sucked? Well, I am saying that the feud will get better, storyline wise, in the next couple of weeks and such. Since they already have great matches behind it - it shouldn't take much storyline wise to make it a top feud.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Bah. the in ring feud of the year for this year is: Tommy Dreamer vs. Chris Nowinki. possible soon to be passed by Nowinski and Snow. I'm serious. Out of ring feud of the year is: A TIE!!!! Austin vs. the creative bastards... (which Austin is now winning without even being around) AND RVD vs. elavation (the ongoing struggle to get pushed on a show without other over talent continues)
Guest Anglesault Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Well, I am saying that the feud will get better, storyline wise, in the next couple of weeks and such. Since they already have great matches behind it - it shouldn't take much storyline wise to make it a top feud. It appears that they are heading back into "wacky tag partners who hate each other" That always sucks. And if I was saying "What produced the best series of matches?" Angle/Benoit could be counted. But I'm basically pretending the matches themselves never happened, and it was just the strength of the storyline.
Guest Bricks Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 I liked the Brock and Rock feud. It was well done with only one match to settle it, none of that "Rematch the next day to get the job back" that makes the "blowoff" match meaningless.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 One match is not a feud. It takes away from the entire meaning of the word feud...which traditionally means series of matches. Current WWE style means a lot of interviews and angles instead of matches...but I'll be damned if a feud is one match.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 But Anglesault just said that matches don't matter. Brock/Rock had a very solid build to it.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 And then they had a match... not a feud. You know...there was a time when wrestling stories were told in the ring, not in 20 minute promos and video packages watching people train. A MATCH not a feud
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 But they had interviews, montages, confrontations... Stuff that, you know, make up a feud.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 No they make up the buildup to a match. Several matches then make up a feud.

Current WWE style means a lot of interviews and angles instead of matches...but I'll be damned if a feud is one match. I think you could do something where a champion avoids his challenger for months and makes his life hell, until finally the guy wins the blow off. I think that could be a feud.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 But they had interviews, montages, confrontations... Stuff that, you know, make up a feud. I have to agree with bps... Unless Rock decides to drag his ass back to WWE again and have a re-match with Brock, this is just a match with much buildup...not a feud.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 But they aren't "feuding" over anything. At the time of the match they are just fighting over something. More than one fight makes a feud. It's like a football game is not a season.
