By the way, I'm still hating Kate and hope bad things are in store for her.

:headbang:

*been hating since the first episode of the season*

Hell, I hated everyone in that storyline when it first started, I finally got around to liking one of them, so of course that has to be the character they kill. Bastards.

"My name is Jack Bauer, and this is the longest day of my life."

"My name is Jack Bauer, and let me just tell you that I was wrong that first time."

"My name is Jack Bauer, and when the hell are they just going to call this show 168 and get it over with?"

"My name is Jack Bauer. Nothing can stop me. I am a cyborg. If you get in my way, I will kill you. I don't care if I've been shot, am having a heart attack, or whatever. I will kill you. Believe that."

they go down on each other...

You know, I was joking there, but when I think about it, given Fox's track record, a little HLA isn't out of the question.

Betcha wouldn't hate Kate then...

Hello, I'm Jack Bauer.

Sleep? Heart problems? A dozen enemy goons? A huge plot to start a war with middle eastern oil suppliers?

Fuck that noise. I'm Jack Bauer, bitches.

Something really weird I just remembered....

Reading my digital cable preview, it said that in tonight's episode, it said that Marie tells her father that she was brainwashed. Call me crazy, but in the actual episode, didn't her father try to rationalize things by saying she was brainwashed, but she never said a word to him?

Did they have a change of heart or something?

Yeah, same here, and I had a feeling she would never grow on me. And I was right. I liked Marie for a brief time when she got all "Allahu Akbar" on us, but once she reverted to whiny lil' sister (only evil), I got sick of her again.

I don't HATE Kate. I am in the minority of people who actually like Sarah Wynter. I don't have a problem with her. Kate falls into the "helpless, clueless objects" that women appear as on 24.

They are either "helpless, clueless objects" or "power-hungry, despicable backstabbers".

Not only is she a passable actress IMO, but she's hot. And, Elisha Cuthbert is hot.

I was a little disappointed that the sexy quotient this year was so low. Last year, we had both nakedness and HLA from Mandy, plus the Stable of Sensuality (not overtly sexy--after all, it was mother & daughter, but it was still sort of...y'know...sensual) , and some near-Monica action with Patty & Palmer. This year, the ladies got their dose of Naked Tortured Kiefer and Naked Ass-kicking Keifer. We, however, didn't get shit except for a little bouncing from Spawn, some Nina "naked back" action (which wasn't really hot due to the scar & humiliation factor), and the LesTension that wasn't (between Michelle & Carrie).

But still:

Teri v. Kate: Kate = prettier

Mandy v. uh, Mandy: n/a

Kim v. Kim: n/a

Nina v. Michelle: Toss up. Both are very pretty.

Jamie v. Carrie: Carrie

Naked Kiefer v. Naked Mandy: Mandy, but Kiefer's nekkidness at least was a HUGE storyline point, while Mandy was just topless, well, because she could be. Although Mandy getting railed in an airplane bathroom and joining the MHC was nice to watch.

And I like Kate Warner, dammit.  Love her, actually.  Hope she doesn't bite the dust next year.  Jack needs some good lovin'.

Damn straight. You know she can't deny the bad-ass sexiness that is Jack Bauer!

I must say: THAT was a cliffhanger.

Here's my theory on it:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Palmer isn't dead - however, he has been infected with some sort of virus or toxin, and will certainly die within 24 HOURS.....unless Jack Bauer can no-sell a heart attack and find him the antidote / necessary life-saving vaccine!

C'mon, you know it'd work perfectly.

BTW, who else marked for Operations?

-We see Max and Alexander Trepkos (Who is played by Eugene Robert Glazer of La Femme Nikita fame, he was Operations)

Can someone give me a synopsis of what happened.

Sarah Wynter - I'd hit that.

Palmer looks like he's got a severe case of gangrene, either that or acid just melts his hand away.

The way things look to be headed, Dennis Haysbert will at least have a cameo next season. As the dead guy.

Operations had a cameo a few episodes ago.

I didn't think they could wrap everything up in one episode, but they did, and then some!

So a known assassian was able to get near the President? They really didn't notice her because of the wig? Very poor job by secret service.

Also, who is Max. Just some evil French guy. Was he involved in Season 1, or did he pop up out of no where.

It wasn't a wig....and she wasn't a known assassin. Just known to us due to her involvement in the first season. Max popped out of nowhere a couple of episodes ago as the guy that Kingsley was working with.

She was never identified last year. They were working on it, but they dropped it after they started focusing on Gaines. The only character she met that didn't get killed eventually was Jonathan.

Yeah, according to the book, authorities know that her name is "Mandy" (they got it from Gaines's computers or something), and they have a security camera picture of her. But I don't consider the book completely canon, and until they actually address it on the show, she's still a mysterious terrorista that nobody knows about except for us and the bad guys.

They never mentioned her on the series. Tony was supposed to be looking into the missing seat on the plane, but they just dropped that storyline.

Pretty good episode; nicely sets up next year.

However, if Palmer isn't killed, and instead he's incapicated, it would be pretty ironic for the Vice Pres and Cabinet to have to invoke the 25th Amendment again, but for a worthy cause (worthy to us) this time.

...and they've already set up the fact that his Vice President is more than capable of being in charge of the country during a crisis. Basically, they put over new talent.

Well done.

I liked it, but it was kind of a downer.

I mean, I know that you have to keep the audience watching, but THIS IS IMPORTANT stuff.

What exactly did she do to him anyway? It looked like she pulled his palm skin off.

STINKPALM!!!

Brodie would be proud...

I wouldn't go _that_ far. The VP didn't really do anything of note during his Presidency other than mumble, "Abort the mission".

Anyway, to refresh everyone's memories...here is the Best Of Mandy:

I was just trying to make it seem like they were foreshadowing something.

I did find the fact that Prescott offered his resignation to be very honorable. In his mind, he thought he was doing what was right because with the facts he had, the Cypress Audio was indeed real and he didn't want 20,000 Americans to lose their lives. He wasn't being an asshole just to be an asshole, you know? Once he got the truth, he aborted the mission, KNOWING that his ass was DONE now (because if he was truly a heel, he would have let the bombers go anyway) and then tried to make amends as best he could. He redeemed himself to me.

Didn't Palmer ask for his resignation earlier in the day if it turned out that the Cyprus tape was legit? I didn't consider it especially honorable--more like knew that he could no longer function as an effective VP. If YOU tried to overthrow your boss and he came back into power, would you still want to work there?

As for whether or not Prescott is a "true heel" (as opposed to merely an opportunistic prick), we still don't know if he was in league with Max & Operations. *Someone* had to orchestrate Palmer's removal from office, and since Prescott initiated the whole thing, he's the most likely suspect (which I realize doesn't mean a thing). Maybe we'll find out more about this in season 3, or in a second 24 tie-in book.

I don't think they were trying to overthrow the presidency...they just wanted to stage a war. That was a side effect they didn't see coming.

Yeah, but I was under the impression that in order to start the war, they had to get rid of Palmer. Which is why they recruited LadyMac--she had her own reasons to bring down the Prez, so that fit into their nefarious plans.

No...they were under the assumption that Palmer would launch a counter attack once the bomb went off. If Palmer didn't know that the Cypress Audio was fake, he would have gone to war and the heels would have gotten what they wanted.

Max said on the phone "we'll start the war another way", so I assume that they'll try to put the blame on whoever incapacitated/assassinated Palmer on one of the Middle Eastern countries.
