Guest jester Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 WWE had been planning on running two PPVs in months without one of the five major PPVs (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, King of the Ring, Summerslam, Survivor Series) staring in February 2003. The original plan was to have the pre-Wrestlemania Smackdown branded PPV as the showcase for the Brock Lesnar/Lennox Lewis fight, but that appears to be scrapped for a pre-WM slot. There appears to be no separate branded PPVs in the works for the first part of 2003, largely because of sagging buyrates for the one PPV WWE currently presents each month. Credit: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter *** Can you imagine what a Raw-only PPV would have for a buyrate now? Ps: Sorry if this was posted earlier.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 Damn. I was actually looking forward to ordering PPVs again without the RAW side destroying them.
Guest The Tino Standard Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 I'd kinda like to see them have brand-specific PPVs if for no other reason than when they headline one with a HHH-Kane championship match without anything from Smackdown to back it up, they'll realize IT ISN'T WORKING when they get about 15,000 buys. You can do a lot of creative math with weekly TV ratings and quarter hours and stuff, spin-doctoring to whatever effect you want. But when you put on a PPV and no one orders it and its held in front of a half-empty arena, there's not a whole lot of excuses to hide behind.
Guest AnnieEclectic Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 They could simply make each brand have a PPV every two months and alternate, however they probably realize that when six out of twelve PPVs get a buyrate of 9 and a half (cause the guy living under a rock loses his cable every two hours). -Annie
Guest Downhome Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 Good, that would be a sh*t way to do it anyhow. They should have RAW have a PPV one month, and Smackdown have one the next, and alternate. One gets WM, and they could bring back Starcade to be the other "big show".
Guest The Electrifyer Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 Just use SummerSlam as the other big show.
Guest Downhome Posted October 30, 2002 Report Posted October 30, 2002 Just use SummerSlam as the other big show. But I want Starcade. :-(
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted October 31, 2002 Report Posted October 31, 2002 Starrcade was shit on for so long by WCW, that it lost all name-value it once had. Only, Wrestlemania has that aura about it now. Royal Rumble sort of has it, but just for the one match.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted October 31, 2002 Report Posted October 31, 2002 So Vince finally saw he was making a huge mistake and changed his mind? ::Gasp::
