Chunk 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 I've just finished watching the CZW: Best of the Best Junior Heavyweight Tournament tape, that i got a few weeks ago. I was just wondering what the general view on the tape was? I had heard very good things about the show before I watched it. Perhaps i was expecting too much, but the tape didnt really deliver for me. Sure it was good, but not much more than that. I really liked the Briscoe Vs Briscoe match, and the Fujita/Winger match, but apart from that, I wasnt thoroughly impressed. How does this show rate in the scheme of things? Is it near the best shows that CZW have ever done, or is it way less than that? Its the first CZW tape i've seen, so I know very little about the promotion. Dont get me worng, i would get the tape again, for those two matches, but i can't help but feel a little let down by the show. Perhaps its just me. ChUnK! Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Personally I really liked BOTB1. Briscoe vs. Briscoe was an amazing match. I really don't think it was the best CZW show ever. They have come pretty far since that show, and this year has been really good for them. My favorite show is either Beyond the Barrier, A Higher Level of Pain or High Stakes. Those shows represent CZW really well as a whole.

Chunk 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 at the time that the show took place it was one of the best shows that they had done but since then there are several shows that i woude rank above it like botb 2 BOTB 2 and what other ones? Oh, I forgot to say that im not really into the whole ultraviloent thing. I know that sounds strange in a CZW thread, but BOTB is a prime example of how the promotion can actually produce WRESTLING, and not violence. ChUnK!
Guest Last Warrior Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Oh, I forgot to say that im not really into the whole ultraviloent thing. I know that sounds strange in a CZW thread, but BOTB is a prime example of how the promotion can actually produce WRESTLING, and not violence. You are being naive a bit here. In the early days of CZW, they were just garbage hardcore antics with little to no wrestling. But in the last year or so they have really improved on the whole. You dont just have to watch the BOTB shows to see some good wrestling. I started off with COD3 and really enjoyed it. There was something on it to cater for a lot of fans and had a great atmosphere. I have only seen BOTB2 since then but intend to get my hands on some of the more recent shows.

But in the last year or so they have really improved on the whole. You dont just have to watch the BOTB shows to see some good wrestling. I didn't mean it like that. I was just saying that BOTB (being the only show i have seen by CZW) is a prime example of what i am looking for from CZW. The ultraviolent stuff doesn't really interest me. I was aksing for recommendations of shows by CZW that are known to be good for there wrestling content and not the violence content. It doesnt have to be a BOTB show, i just used BOTB as an example of what i am looking for (I.e. Wrestling over Violence). Sorry for the confusion. Would you recommend COD3 to me then, as the next CZW tape i should get. Bearing in mind that i want to see the top quality wrestling that the promotion can produce, over the violence that they are renowned for. ChUnK!
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 If you aren't a huge garbage fan, then the begining of this year to about BOTB2 would be good pick-ups. There are some solid wrestling on there, and a minimal amount of the ultraviolence, simply because they were unsure about what they could get away with in Viking Hall. "Accepting the Challenge" might be a good one, with Pain vs. Messiah. Tables and chairs are used, but no glass. There is a barbed wire strap match between Zandig and Glen Osbourne, but it can be fast forwarded.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Briscoe vs. Briscoe was an amazing match. Terrible damn finish though. Dont blame him for protecting him on the bump. But it looked horrible. Trent Acid >>>> j00, no doubt about it.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 5, 2002 Heh, weird coincedence, I just met Trent the other day, and he's a goofy motherfucker (I mean that as a compliment). He was talking about taking up John Tenta's old fish-man gimmick and becoming Trent Shark.
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted November 5, 2002 Was the finish supposed to be a top-rope Tiger Driver '91 or just the regular variation? Sucks that they messed up the finish, because that is a flawless match otherwise. (Just like the MPro 10-man from Barely Legal, where the blown triple powerbomb blemished a perfect match.) Guest Dace59 Report post Posted November 5, 2002 It was just ment to be a Regular Tigre Driver off the top. It wasn't a flawless match but it was good. Dont know why they insist on calling the J Driller (A Double Underhook piledriver) a TD'91. To me, the fisrt time I saw the finish, I thought it was a counter cuz of the way they landed. And it was a 6 man tag at BL'97, your thinking of some of M-Pros' 10 man tags.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted November 5, 2002 I guess as a whole I liked the show. But I had a couple problems. The whole 3 way dance format sucks. It would be ok if the winner advanced, but advancing the 2 guys that don't lose, just so they can wrestle later just seems poorly booked. I hope for #3 they change that. And for the first one they should have had Acid win...stupid putting a guy over who you knew wouldn't be back`just to give it a little "credibility" with the Japan worker. They should have put over one of their own.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2002 I thought that much was very good overall though. How good are the Briscoes overall? Ive only seen that show and, although it was good, being against each other, im guessing they would have worked that match a million times in their careers. So it could be an unfair reflection of how good they are as a whole. As far as the ultraviolent stuff goes, its not that i hate it, its just that im a wrestling fan and not really a violence fan (if that makes sense). Seen as ive never been interested enough to pick up a show like TOD, how far do the guys actually go? Ive heard about big time blading and the use of crowd bought weapons, but is that very infrequent? How much more violent would you say that the average CZW match is compared to a particularly violent ECW match, or say the hell in a cell at no mercy (lol let the abuse for that comment begin). Guest Dace59 Report post Posted November 5, 2002 The Briscoes are ok, and have gotten fair better from some of their early matches. Still cant land aerial moves right (just catch the opp with the legs or upper back) Little ring pysch, but fun to watch. Their moves are horribly and incorrectly over pimped.
