Metallica - Thrash until Metallica, which then on has been hard rock

 

In Flames - Melodic Death, methinks...old-school, anyways. Best way to REALLY describe them is Gothenburg, since Gothenburg is their hometown, and many bands out of the Gothenburg scene have had extremely similar sounds.

 

Slayer - Thrash (Thrash and Speed are the same thing).

 

Cradle Of Filth - BLACK Metal

 

Iron Maiden - New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. And when that fad wore out, POWER METAL~!~

 

Soulfly - Nu-metal.

 

Dimmu Borgir - Black metal.

Thrash and Speed are the same thing

 

Hey hey hey now....

 

I've had this discussion with people before, and if I learned anything, it's that they're not the same.

 

From what I got, the main difference was essentially in carefulness. If a metal band plays fast, but plays every single note dead-on, then it's speed.

 

BUT, if a band plays the same kinda stuff, yet with more distortion and less emphasis on playing every single note perfectly, then they're thrash.

 

Essentially, Thrash is just a more raw version of speed, as I understand it.

I was basically thinking Metallica was Thrash before the Black Album, but I felt it was more obvious than anything else. Does anyone over 14 actually like Metallica more after the Black Album rather than before?

 

On a related note, I wouldn't call what they did hard rock either. To me, Hard Rock is more or less the Party Rock stuff. I would say bands like Motorhead, AC/DC, and Guns N' Roses fall into this category...

I've heard a number of people make the argument. (That Metallica are speed and Slayer are thrash)

 

It just depends on how in depth you need to go, really. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, you could lump all three of those bands in one sub-genre. But there are the anal ones out there who will argue to the death that thrash =/= speed.

Yes...Motörhead is straight-up old-school metal. They gave kids the idea to play a punked-out version of metal, and now we have THRASH METAL.

 

Although I can see the reference though, because Motörhead is GREAT for parties.

Nah, Agent, because death and grind elitists just call you a stupid shit for not liking the bands they do, or for liking a band they don't. It's humorous.

 

Black metal elitists are sheer idiots, because they seem to not comprehend that it's MUSIC and not a lifestyle. Hence why I can't get into most Christraping black metal, because its fans and its musicians are too stupid to understand that music is MUSIC. Plus, as I said, according to black metal elitists, if a black metal band has more than 10 fans, they're no longer black metal. The sound of the music means nothing, their attitude means nothing, it's apparently all about how many fans they have.
