Yes... and for those wondering, King's comments are in fact mine up until the middle, when the powers that be started pulling my puppet strings with little dollar signs...

translation? Mark wrote the stuff for me after the Stash the Ash review, since I had to boogie.

Well, I thought it was pretty good. The Stash the Ash comment was classic.

GSMS: That's just... cold.

SK: No, Frost is cold, I was hot....

On the Stash the Ash match, that's the one a good majority of the other writers here chose. The wheel was rigged by democratic election (won't here those words together often). Putting down the stip for being asinine and stupid is saying the same of everyone who voted for it in my book.

Although I realize that the review is written in a tongue and cheek in-character kayfabe style, Stevens' running down the stip still rubbed me the wrong way despite him giving props for Ash and Frost doing the best they could with it.

I thought I might hear about the comments with the "Stash the Ash" stip, so I prepared a defense...

I was unable to vote (internet issues at just the wrong time, stupid dial up), but I know what I would have voted for. It wasn't "Stash the Ash". I know what King voted for, and it wasn't "Stash the Ash". The problem with writing these columns is that everything is opinion with the exception of basic details. At some point on everyone's match, I thought either King or I went out on a limb with our opinion. You also haven't seen some of the stuff that ended up on the "cutting room floor" so to speak, stuff that we decided was just too mean to say or was too much of an in-joke. Thus, no mention of "The Kliq" although I had a couple of great lines at one point.

King thought the stip was ok, but not a great one. I thought it was a terrible stip, in fact an absolute horror show of a stip. In general, I don't like comedy matches and this stip had nowehre to go but the comedy route. But, and that is a J-Lo sized but, I thought Ash did the best he could do with the stip. It was a shockingly good match considering the limitations and I thought I did a good job of mentioning that in the column.

Here is the fun part...

Frost or Ash: It would be perfect for either of you to write a rebuttal to our thoughts on your match. Try to keep it relatively short as it will go at the end of the next column. And remember, this takes place in the "SWF World" where CC doesn't just book the matches, they book finishes and angles too. All the match outcomes are predetermined, just like the WWE, and you are talented guys playing characters. So, if you'd like, drop me a line.

Heck, now that I think about it, rebuttals and comments "in character" are welcome. I might use them, I might not, but here is your chance to contribute to "From Ringside".

Everyone else: Thanks for the comments. Keep 'em coming, and remember, I have an official and easy to remember e-mail now: [email protected]. Feel free to use it for SWF stuff for the column and any comments you want to make that you don;t want to be seen by everyone.

Take it Easy,

Well, I hope you enjoyed our little slice of respectability as part of the IWC, because as of now, it is over.

I was informed at around 12:00 today that there will be no more columns from the SWF on thesmartmarks.com. Yes, "From Ringside: The SWF Report" is going bye-bye. The writers at the site talked and came to the following conclusion, as presented to me: "as a site that is trying to grow and become a credible site, we shouldn't have any e-fed stuff on our main page." Thus, no more "Grand Slam" columns.

I was told of another opportunity from them. They would be willing to host our website and put a link to it on the front page for free. I told them that as the webmaster, it sounded like a good idea, but I didn't make the decisions here. Heck, I'm not even a mod!

So here's the upshot. Thoth, Stubby, Thugg... and anyone else who helps run the SWF/JL, talk to Dames when you get a chance.

I'll post again later what my feelings are about this after I've calmed down a bit...

IGN = raging assholes.

Smarkboards = unbelievable raging assholes for taking us in and then screwing us.

We = fucked.

Has anyone actually read their columns? For a place that is "moving toward respectability" there's an awful lot of poser shit on the boards. Calling half of these guys wrestling fans is like calling the Nazi party a bunch of Gentile Zionists.

Man but I want to break something. Or at least an explanation. Mark's column was closer to an appreciation of real wrestling than written in a column in the past month, barring Dames Ring of Honor article.

Now now now... let's not go flaming anyone. That will get us nowhere and destroy the prospects of anything else good happening for us here.

Not that I'm saying you aren't allowed to let Dames or anyone else know what you think, just please, I'm asking nicely, be polite.

Focus your rage on writing great matches and promos...

Yeah, that's it...

Sorry Mark, not buying it. Fuck 'em in the ear. Our fed which has a great and glorious history is slowly dying, and these guys can't be bothered to throw us a freaking bone? The oaoast didn't help (not that I blame them). The total lack of any marketing on the front page certainly didn't help.

I am righteously pissed.

WTF??

I'm getting a little tired of the powers that be flipflopping on us left and right. First they can host us...then they need us to pay money. Fisrt we can have a column, then maybe...ok, here's a column...ok, we're taking it away...sure we'll link your website...nah, we won't...ok, now that we've screwed you over, we'll like you despite the fact that we needed that column to help bolster a roster that is one setback from being non-existant. Honestly, i doubt that I have any real pull to talk to Dames...it really has to be Thoth since he's our only real contact with the powers that be here on the smartmarks boards.

Although, whenever I get home tonight, I'll see if I can find out anymore information for you guys...

I understand where they are coming from, it's just annoying that they keep switching on us like this, AND...this couldn't have come at a worse time...our rosters are getting rather slim and we really could have used the influx of people that could have come from the column.

Then again, maybe 2 columns was enough to gain some notice...who knows...

I really don't see how having an E-Fed makes you lose credibility. Maybe if one of the writers could explain this to me, I'd be happy. But I don't see how you can't be a credible Wrestling Site if you have an E-Fed column every now and then. It's not like it was "W3 R0x0rs!!!1!!@q@#$ J01|\| 0uR F3|)!!!1!#$%^&" Seriously, I really want one of the people who vetoed this to give an explanation.

I'm on it. Flesher is writing a post to the Fantasy Booking Folder. I'm gonna ask Mark tonight to advertise us back at the old IGN sites just in case any oldies-but-goodies are out there looking to come back. I'm dropping our name but not advertising anywhere I can.

Consider this thread the recruitment drive people. Everyone post what you're doing to get people here, and try to make sure it won't get us booted!

This whole thing has been... disallusioning for me, to say the least.

For a brief, shining moment, we were on the front page of a wrestling site, and while it was under another name, I was an Internet published writer. It recalled the heady days when we had a link on the front page of the IGNWrestling site, Ms. Galatea dropped by often and we were on top of the world.

So here we are, starting our third year of quality e-wrestling and where are we? Our rosters are dropping, interest is sliding, and we are getting close to the unthinkable, at least in my opinion. I mean, do you realize that we are retiring a belt soon?? Jeebus!!!

I love this fed. I say that without sarcasm and with conviction. I have made good friends here, I have learned a lot about writing here, and most importantly I have put a lot of my time and care into helping this fed get better, one way or another. It hurts me to see people jerk us around like a bunch of stupid kids jabbering about "Hardcore Jim" piledriving "Samoa Bob" through flaming thumbtack covered tables onto barbed wire. We take this and our characters seriously. And I, for one, am tired of other people not taking it seriously dammit.

This is a dark time for us, and I am not sure what can be done to make it better, short of a miracle influx of noobs. But by God, I will not just stand by and let it collapse around me. I will work on the website to get it into better shape than it is. I will continue to write columns and promos.

And if worse comes to worse, if I am needed that badly, then it might be time for Curry to get refitted for a tux.

The SWF is my home, and nobody... and I mean nobody... comes into our house and pushes us around. Fuckin' A!!!

It is time for me to have my opinon so here goes. If i get kicked out, its for the better.

What about those sites that list E-feds and have rankings? But they always list by booked or simulated, and i have no idea what category we fit into for that.

Hell go to other wrestling site message boards. Just pick the most popular and biggest ones to start at and work your way down.

Also when you get the site done, that will help. A website helps build presence, and if you know how to play the search engine game for top listings, that will help as well. (I can do that for you if you need.)

<!---START OF MEGA RANT--->

An E-Fed doesn't need to be attached to a "Wrestling Site" to be sucessful if you can make it original(which i think it really is), reachable, and basically just have the knowlege of us out there. I mean right now, if you don't visit thesmartmarks.com, will you ever know about SWF? Probably not, but that is nobodys fault.

The IGNWF survived off of IGN's mass drawing power, which kept it going good for 2 years. Now we don't have IGN since they became communist bastards, but what happened is also good. It removes the crutch, if you catch my drift. It makes it so where if we want to keep going, and going strong, we have to put forth the effort on our own, and rely on nobody!

What i think is needed(not that anyone would care, after all what does Brimmy know.)

#1. Somebody needs to take charge of something here. Other than booking. Just because you can book good does not mean you can run the whole damn show. I'm not knocking anyone at all, I am just saying not everyone has the knowledge. Everyone says they want to book a show, but not everyone can book, so if you really want to help there are other areas as well.

What i am MAINLY talking about here though, is someone who will go out and grab us a domain, grab us webspace on a commercial server. (Thugg i know you donate space, but for what im talking about several people would need access, and i TOTALLY understand the security with your server.) This someone should be willing to foot the bill because they want to help run a damn sucessful E-Fed in stead of sitting back, bitching and complaining. This could also be a web team for this, but it ultimatly needs to be in one persons name as the head of this department.

#2. A website - I know Mark is working hard on getting this up, and I think hes doing a damn good job. Espically for someone who claims to be an amature at it.

But.......(Mark i love your work, and i mark for every Walk-Off) But..this website needs more power for its backbones. It needs to be powered with some kind of server side program like ASP, Coldfusion, Pearl, something. It needs to be as simple to update as posting a message on this board. It needs to have the ability to accept new applicants with out going to the boards, have simple to update stats......

Basically what i am talking about is something like i started on before with the CF site that ended when i had to take care of some paying customers. But thats another story. Take it from my experiences. When i was actively creating and running TCL (A gaming league for online gaming) we had some serious competition. But we built a state of the art system, and put those in power who knew exactly what they were doing. The site attracted people because it was simple to use and unlike other Online Gaming Leagues, that were message board based or email based. It was fully automated. Every bit of it. And it still is.

Well in the end the competition closed its doors, and we are still there even though i have steped down to doing nothing but developing new systems and leagues.

All in all to end this rant, we need to be self contained and not rely on anyone other than ourselves to make this work. We need people who can step aside from their power positions to let other people help, and we need people who will stop bitching about the powers that be and help them! So basically i think a restructuring is needed to make us, or we might not ever make it to Genesis IV. I pray that never happens. You guys have built something great and it deserves to be shown, and KNOWN about.

Like i said in the past I will help in anyway that i am needed. I may not be the best writer by a long shot, that is for sure. But i can code my ass off, make web sites, and i know my way around building web based organizations. Trust nobody, and rely only on yourself and your members to make it great and sucessful.

So what do you think?

Thanks for listening/Reading.

About the website, which is the only part of your rant I feel qualified to comment on:

I agree. We need a website that can do all of the cool things you want it to do. I would love to see a site where we could set up access for certain people and let them post their own articles. Where the links would update automatically and where people could send in their stats and stuff without going to the boards. I agree totally.

However, I don't know how to do any of this stuff. When i learned how to do websites, perl was cutting edge and server-side programs were almost unheard of outside huge coprorate sites. I know HTML, JavaScript and some little tricks here and there. That's it.

After the last site went kaput, i waited and waited for people better than me to get a site up and running that would be worthy of the fed. Due to jobs and time issues, it never happened. When it became apparent that enrollment was slipping, I started to push the issue a little, and almost by accident, ended up as the webmaster even though I am one of the least qualified people around here.

In the following stuff, I would like to make it clear that I am not shooting on anyone, nor am I putting anyone down. There have been a lot of people take a shot at the website and, for whatever reason, haven't gotten very far. There have been a veritable load of people tell me they would write something for the site and haven't. Thugg sent me quite a few pages of stats yesterday, and so far that is the extent of other people's contributions to the site (things I pull off the boards don't count).

The site will be posted Sunday in as close to finished form as I can get it. If you have a contribution to make, please have it to me by then.

This is only version 1.0 of the site. I will continue to make what improvements I can, but after the site is up and working, then people like Thugg and Secret Agent can take over the site and make it the coolest e-fed site on the web.

To tell you the truth, there's a lot more we can be doing; however, we're not gonna fit in with the mainstream "I'm looking for a fed" crowd because most of those apply to RP feds.

You might get one or two of those types, but the places you're gonna have to draw from are the straight wrestling sites.
