While I agree with the idea, I think they're going about it the wrong way (target parents, not kids, and if you target kids tell them that it is fake, message of tolerance to these things which arent real), its not a religious thing for me. And at 17, if you cant handle the music, there is probably a deeper issue going on that is being missed.

 

But still free plug and waiting for the the bashing.

I haven't gone completely through his site yet, but what I did see I picked up that he's a Christian and ultimately it's a website with a mission. Which, isn't a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. It's not unlike Acquire the Fire and other Christian programs aimed at kids.

 

I think the aim at teenagers is right where it needs to be, as well. I also think that alot of his message goes to teenagers and parents that are Christians themselves, in an effort to strengthen their resolve in the thought life (which, according to the faith, the thought life can be a very powerful weapon for or against you where Satan is concerned).

 

So, for who he is and what he seems to be representing, I have no problem with it so far. I may disagree with one or two of his views if I ever go deeper into it, but that's expected really.

 

Even without the inherent Christian message, the message of watching how much you allow to be put into your head and how you let it influence you is a good message all around, I think.

I just dont think you need a christain view to say the music is a bad example of how to live your life. I think it should be a dude, stop being a fucking sheep thing. But thats me opinion.

Oh, I agree. You don't have to be a Christian to take a stand against something. But as a Christian, I tend to appreciate it when someone makes an attempt to. And really, the material in question itself isn't inherently "evil," but the problem comes in when, as you put it so well, you become a mindless sheep and don't turn it over in your mind at all. When you just accept it as some kind of truth and run with it with no real thought or anything. That's where the problem comes in, in my opinion.

 

But no, being Christian or some such doesn't bestow an exclusive right to that line of thinking.

Ok, am I the only one bothered by the way this site uses lyrics to attempt to prove a point?

 

Like, I could be wrong, but I thought that the Eminem song "Role Model" was an attempt at humor, and not to be taken seriously.

 

And when he takes the lyrics from Guilty Conscience, he puts them in a light they don't really belong in. He quotes only what Eminem says, forgetting to point out that there is someone else there saying the exact opposite thing.

 

It just bothers me when people skip the blatently obvious and take things out of context.

 

Same thing with the Nickelback song "Just For". He only has the lyrics describing the bad things the singer says he wants to do, and doesn't include the stuff in the middle there. That puts the song in a TOTALLY different light, one it doesn't really belong in.

 

And the Linkin Park lyrics quoted in the suicide section are pretty ambiguous, except the first one.

 

And I stand by the fact that anyone who kills themself was fucked up to begin with - I don't think that listening to depressing music makes anyone kill themself.

 

And speaking from experience, depressing music can be a good thing. I mean, you sit there, thinking you're all alone, and then you realize that this guy is singing about the same shit you're going through, and it makes you realize - you're not alone.

 

I dunno about you people, but I went through a period of depression, and knowing that there were those out there who felt the same helped me a lot.

 

I have nothing against the virtues this page is trying to put forth - just the way in which they do it.

Yeah. Misrepresentation happens alot, in issues like this and in so many other heated debates on these kinds of matters. All kinds of groups do it, unfortunately, and in all kinds of realms.

 

It's an unfortunate instinct sometimes. I'd be insanely PO'ed if someone twisted something I wrote to prove a point without looking at it in context.

Well alot of children ARE to stupid to think for themselves. (Britney sold how many albums again)

I mean 9-year olds in midriffs because they want to be like Britney Spears, thats just wrong, but the parents either dont care, or dont bother to say anything to them or encourage it.

 

I think the whole suicide thing is going a bit over board since I doubt 9 year olds are blasting LP in their headphones, but who knows. I've seen kids under 12 at R movies, and at concerts too. CP

But you know that killing is wrong from an early age, at 9 you really have no grasp of sex or why dressing sexually is wrong. Its not the same as knowing a movie with robots is fake.
