Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 18, 2002 Yes, frankly I'm speechless. How can one not like Del? BTW. Do either of you guys know andre nickatina? I guess he used to be called dre dog. I'm just starting to get into some of his stuff, and it is pretty effing good, I must say.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 19, 2002 BTW. Do either of you guys know andre nickatina? I guess he used to be called dre dog. Never heard of him. Anyway, here's what I played last night: Ultramagnetic MCs--Ego Trippin, Two Brothers with Checks, Give the Drummer Some, Raise it Up Talking Heads--I Zimbra Magnetic Fields--I Don't Believe in the Sun Tad--Bullhorn Shellac--Song of the Minerals GBV--I am a tree E.C.--Veronica (demo) Tom Waits--Get behind the mule Yo La Tengo--blue line swinger The guy who was suppose to come in at 10pm never showed, so I wound up spending an extra hour on air. I started playing completely random stuff--none of which I bothered to write down--and I took advantage of the rule that allows profanities between 10pm and 6am. For instance, I played a 14-and-a-half minute epic by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds called "O'Malley's Bar," which contains words like "dick" and "fuck," as well as scenes of violence so graphic, it put a lot of gangsta rap to shame. Oh, the tawdriness!
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 19, 2002 Shellac--Song of the Minerals You took my advice. Sexcellent! How'd that work for ya? EDIT: If I can remember the name of the Nickatina album that I think is really good, I'll pass that along as a strong recommendation.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 20, 2002 A fine song to be sure, but I believe there was a naughty word in it (I think I heard "fucking"). It was before 10pm, and I had to apologize afterwards.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 20, 2002 yeah I think you're right. Sorry. "Fucking you he's a total stranger" Dammit! Don't ever listen to me again.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 20, 2002 The vocals were buried so low in the mix, most people probably wouldn't have noticed...then again, I was only half paying attention when it was on, and I caught it.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 20, 2002 Tad's the only one I'm completely unfamiliar with this week! So, I can say with greater confidence it's a good set. And it reminds me that I need to finally get myself a copy of Mag Earwhig! sometime soon.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 26, 2002 BUMP Those of you who would be interested know that you can now listen to the station online. Well, since I'm not going anywhere this Thanksgiving, I'll be on for three-or-so hours this Thursday, starting around 11am. I will not be doing a regular show, however, as I plan on playing nothing but really, really long songs, ranging in length from 12-38 minutes. Also, upon discovering a copy of Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around" single, I'll be playing that, most likely with waves of feedback in the background. Here's the setlist: 01. "Cop Shoot Cop..."--Spiritualized 02. "The Diamond Sea"--Sonic Youth 03. "Bitches Brew"--Miles Davis 04. Track 7 or 8 from Sigur Ros' () 05. Track 1 from Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music 06. "Night Falls on Hoboken"--Yo La Tengo 07. "Sister Ray (live version)"--Velvet Underground 08. "O'Malley's Bar"--Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 09. "Poopship Destroyer (live version)"--Ween 10. Track 4 from Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music I'm not asking anyone to check out the whole show--if you listen to the whole thing, you're stupider than I am--but at least some of it. For some of you, this will be the first time hearing my voice. goodhelmet and LooseCannon already know the pleasure of my soothing dulcitones, and so should you. Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Tell me when you'll be playing "Humpin' Around" and I'll tell you when I'll be listening.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 26, 2002 It'll make its first of many appearances after Sonic Youth, so tune in around 11:35. I'm definitely playing it during one of Reed's feedback tracks. That'll either drive me into fits of hysteria or ecstasy. We'll see. EDIT: Oh, yeah. There are three different versions of the song on this single, one of which has the vocals removed. It's called the "Humpstrumental." Words do not describe how happy that makes me. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Where do I go to listen? I'm morbidly curious about how this mostly obscure or over-my-head music you guys love so much sounds. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted November 26, 2002 well kotz, if you want a true taste of what inc. listens to i don't know if thursday will be the show for you. last night's spins were an interesting mix. i dug some of it, some of it i could do without. i'm still a little pissed i missed out on the flaming lips. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 26, 2002 I just pm'ed you, Kotz. And as GH said, what I'll be doing Thursday is going to be really different from what I normally do. Tune in anyway just to hear me talk. EDIT: Speaking of hearing me talk, I recorded last night's show, and they were playing it during some dead time around ten this morning. I heard a recording of my voice for the first time in years, and, like most people in that situation, I was really weirded out by it.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 26, 2002 A couple more things: I may or may not play this week's regular show again. It depends if it hasn't been cleared from the hard drive, or if I feel like spending that much time in the studio. I'll also be on AIM for parts of that time, so please feel free to keep me company, if only in the virtual sense.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted November 26, 2002 I don't mind my voice as much as I used to. Thanks for the link. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted November 27, 2002 i have the perfect voice for an old soul station, spinning the hits by the spinners, manhattans and the chi-lites. in fact, my first degree plan was for communications. unfortunately, outside of college radio, there is absoolutely no freedom in today's market for dj's to spread the musical love. they are simply a voice for the latest musical infomercial. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 27, 2002 I hear ya. As much fun as I'm having with it now, I know only soulless drudgery awaits in a future radio career. No thanks.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 29, 2002 I wound up not following the entire format. Here's what I played today, eating 4.5 hours of time: --A 38 minute live version of VU's "Sister Ray" --The first track off of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music (six minutes into it, I played Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around" simultaneously. It was AWESOME.) --Death Cab for Cutie's "Stability" --The Roots' Phrenology disc. ALL of it. --Sonic Youth's "The Diamond Sea" --Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" --Built to Spill's live, epic version of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" --Tom Waits' Bone Machine disc. ALL of it. --Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around," sans feedback. Aside from the Brown song and the albums I played in full, the shortest track was just over 12 minutes. Oh, the freedom I enjoyed.
