Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 12, 2002 I don't have anything to say here, so let's get to the movies. Armed & Dangerous Amusing John Candy comedy (featuring the late great Brion James) arrives on DVD in a widescreen barebones release. Highlander: Season One Anchor Bay releases it's first season box set with the popular Highlander spin-off. The 8 disc set features bloopers, outtakes & interviews. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition Super deluxe special edition features a 30 minute longer director's cut, as well as long list of special features including multi commentaries, a sneak peak of The Two Towers and more. The packaging is amazing as well. South Park: Season One Although the commentaries for this box set were pulled for already discussed, idiotic reasons, it will still be nice to have the entire season in order. The box set includes some special footage from other events, music videos and Matt and Trey's classic introductions. Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones Despite a lame love story, some really bad CGI and a story that came up short (Episode III will have to explain A LOT in 2 hours), I still enjoyed this film, which wasn't hard considering what The Phantom Menace was like. The 2 disc DVD comes loaded with commentaries, deleted scenes and probably the best picture I have seen on a DVD yet (it's a pure digital transfer). 'Till next week. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted November 12, 2002 The first MST3K Box Set also is out today. It has Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, The Creeping Terror and Skydivers, with un-Misted versions and trailers for each movie. $59.95 seems kinda steep, though.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 12, 2002 (featuring the late great Brion James) Ack, say it ain't so! When did he die?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted November 12, 2002 (featuring the late great Brion James) Ack, say it ain't so! When did he die? In 99. I didn't know that either. I just looked it up when you asked cause I was like who the hell is Brion James? Then it was, oh my god, THAT guy, he can't be dead! Damn. And people act like Richard Harris was important. Guest Kagato Otaku Report post Posted November 12, 2002 I thought the CG in Episode II was fine, apart from Anakin riding the fat pig/cow/tick thing. Considering the whole of the movie is almost all blue-screen, I suppose Lucas should be happy about that. It whoops Spiderman in the CG department, which gets credit in some places for having GREAT special effects.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 12, 2002 AAAHHH!!! Spiderman's effects are some of the worst I've ever seen. If they could have gone back and forth between live action and CGI any more sloppily... oh wait...they couldn't have.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted November 12, 2002 the prices for MST3K and South Park don't bother me, I just put them on my Christmas list and hope I get them for Christmas.

That's only $15 a disc... is that the regular price for MST3K discs? What's the LOTR extended edition packaging like?
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 12, 2002 Star Wars: Episode II here I come. ... Well, next week that is. I hate being 14 with no job and no money. *kicks dirt*
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 12, 2002 The Regular Extended Edition LOTR disc has packaging that makes it look like a book. The Collectors Gift Set Extended Edition adds a window box and sculpted book ends. The Collectors Gift Set also comes with some other stuff that you don't get with the regular version. Guest areacode212 Report post Posted November 12, 2002 Star Wars: Episode II here I come. ... Well, next week that is. I hate being 14 with no job and no money. *kicks dirt* Even with a job and money, I'm finding it hard to get all the DVDs I want. I mean, with Sports Night a couple of weeks back, LOTR and Highlander this week, My So-Called Life next week...this month will be pretty expensive. Hmm. .I think I'll hit the brakes on my DVD purchasing for now until maybe Christmas or so.
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted November 12, 2002 Well that's why I'm asking for the 5 disc collector set of LOTR for Christmas. I already have the two disc set, so that'll give my mother a 10 dollar rebate for it, which if she gets it this week makes it only 29.99. Of course I go to my Film class today and two of the guys have bought the 4 disc set and are taunting me with it...must resist urge to buy, remmember Smackdown taping tonight. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 12, 2002 I got Star Wars and the freaking LOTR 50 dollar set for my girlfriend. I hate that movie. I balked on South Park, and will probably order it off their site so I can get the commentary CDs as well.

Sure, most of it was great, but some of it was so gawdawful it was distracting. But you are right, it can't touch the bad CGI in Spider-Man.

There was really only one part in Spider-man in which the CGI made me cringe. And that was when Peter Park decides to hunt down his Uncle's Killer. That's pretty much it as far as I'm concerned. Everything else was fucking great. Don't know what you guys are complaining about.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted November 12, 2002 I got Attack of the Clones but the best story was that Best Buy FINALLY had Friday the 13th part 5 again And they kicked me in my nuts!! It hadn't been there in weeks. Then I walk over and see it and everything goes into slow motion, the box is glowing, angels are singing....I reach for the box....grab it....pull....but it doesn't move. Somebody jerkoff had put gum on the bottom of the Friday 5 box so it was stuck to the rack.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2002 I don't get it.. I never really saw a problem with Spiderman's CGI. To quote the eloquent Eric Cartman, "What's the big fuckin' deal, bitch?" Dames
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted November 13, 2002 I didn't think it was as bad as I feared. The only parts that really bugged me was the non-Spiderman CGI. When they used it to make Peter Parker jump roofs or when he had his made up suit after the wrestling match. That looked really fake to me. They just can NOT make human beings look right yet. BUT...when he had the real suit, it looked fine to me. The way they made the suit, worked great with the CGI. So did the Goblin's. His suit was friggin retarded, but since it looked stupid normal, it didn't matter that he looked stupid with CGI. It looked stupid regardless. And Spidey's suit, even when he was real the suit made him look fakeish, whatever the material was made out of. So I didn't see a big difference between real and fake for him. It's a little more obvious on the DVD though. Seeing as how my original copy was a bootleg, it deadened the effect.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted November 13, 2002 That big white piece of shit that was supposed to be a ship or something in SW: AOTC was the worst looking CGI ever.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 13, 2002 I like the CGI in Spider-Man because it adds to the pseudo-cartoon effect of the movie.

No, the worst CGI ever is when its (mis)used in low-budget pictures. I lover Full Moon to death, but unless you've got a gazillion dollar budget, CGI will not look convincing. Ever. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 13, 2002 Toys 'R' Us is selling Episode II in the U.S. for $9.99. Get it while you can. As far as good/bad CGI goes, Blade Runner was made with miniatures, models, blue screen and wires, yet it still looks better than all this CGI crap.
