So whats the big deal about RVD?

Recommended Posts

Guest bob_barron

Yea- Dreamer is pretty over for a guy who really wins a match.

Def elevate him- I think he could get real over real quick

You make the guys like Jericho, Booker, RVD, Dreamer, Storm, Christian, etc the Main Event guys just like Smackdown has done with their Six guys. The Fans will start to believe in them and take them for "HeavyWeight" title Contenders.

As for how do you get rid of Triple H? I have No Clue.

No love for Golddust/Booker T bps? They were like the best thing going on RAW when I stopped watching.

They were, but Goldust has been split away to do nothing but job to Test, and Booker is in promo's with HHH...shich kills that for me too.

but fearhavoc, you mentioned the main obstacle. as long as hhh is around then you won't ever have the chance for those 6 guys to succeed like the SD guys. plus, there is a noticable dropoff in talent from benoit, angle and guerrero to booker, rvd and jericho.

The best way to look at RAW is to see what actually does work for you.

Sadly...my list is:

Dreamer

Nowinski/Snow

Jericho/Christian

and whatever RVD is doing

That's the whole show for me.

That's my problem then. I can't think of anything on RAW to look forward to.

My highpoint of the night is seeing if Triple H goes over on someone then coming to this board to read all the speculation as to what strings he pulled, where, how, & when he pulled them.

Quite entertaining actually. Raw is Conspiracy.

I like several people on RAW, I just wish that they were doing something else.

  • • The Hurricane

• Christian

• Chris Jericho

• Rob Van Dam

I don't like The Hurricane having The Hurricane gimmick & being so low on the card. Same for Christian. I hate the fact that he lost his pyro in his entrance too. Chris Jericho is actually doing pretty well right now.. and I feel that RVD is too high up the card. I still watch to see what happens with those characters however.

Shit, I remember watching ECW for two years just to see who the Dudley Boyz would hit with 3D. So, of course, WWE splits them up.

Mother fuckers.

I like Hurricane too, but usually I don't see him on RAW, and when I do it isn't for very long.

That's what I'm saying. He got over in WCW because of in-ring product (his finish) and then the WWE tries to get him over by making him a comical character. You have to give credit to Helms for succeeding at getting over though.

I should point something out. In my posts, I try to stick by what I have said in the past. I have continually said that RVD is too high up the card. You have to understand that the RAW & Smackdown main events are very different. On RAW, being too high up the card means that you feud with Triple H. Triple H is the entire main event scene on RAW. On Smackdown, however, RVD would be fine in the main event.

i can agree with that somewhat cataclysm. then again, rvd would also have the advantage of being carried by the SD GODZ. similar to the advantage edge enjoys now.

as for the raw roster, as long as regal gets depushed with hhh, i would be happy

Yeah, I have never been a fan of Regal's either. I don't really think that HHH should be de-pushed though. He just shouldn't have any kind of backstage voice. He also shouldn't be shoved down our throats every second of every segment. Everything wrestling related actually..

Does anyone else find it funny that Triple H is the focal point of the cover to the new Smackdown! game? I mean, he isn't even on the active Smackdown roster, he's a RAW superstar.

Just goes to show how much stroke he actually does have.

If Triple H could go back to his 2000 work, I wouldn't care..

I would. Because in 2000 he was still fresh to the main event scene compared to now,and the need to elevate wasn't so dire.

I don't think he could get back to his 2000 work.

At least not while he's on RAW.

Let's not forget that his "amazing" year came at a time that the only people he wrestled were the Foley's, Jericho's, Benoit's and gimmicked Rock matches

i know it has been said time and time again but this is wcw all over again. the only thing that has changed are the names. and in some cases those are the exact same as well. would that make raw the wwe equivalent of thunder?

I liked Thunder. I don't like RAW. So, no, it wouldn't.

Now, if Raven makes another "flock" and they run wild on RAW.. then it will just be plain eerie.

Not quite, I don't recall the top guy in WCW nailing Ted Turner's daughter, or their biggest real star going off to do big time Hollywood movies. Other than that, yeah, gruesomely similar. It'd be funny as hell if Vince ended up having to sell out to AOL-Time Warner in a few years, wouldn't it?

to go back to dreamer, what i never got was how they finally started giving him a hardcore SINGLES MATCHES with the title, without all the run-in crap, where he easily of got over then they killed the title. I know it was coming to an end but they should have given him a decent run with it first.

I have yet to see a lengthy RVD match in the WWE when the fans were involved the whole way through.

the last Hardcore match ever Tommy Dreamer vs RVD from Raw

I cried at that match. Bring back the HC belt, and put it BACK on Dreamer....

dammit...

Dusty Rhodes could get RVD over with his great proverbs of its "Its Clubbin Time" or with Larry Zybrisco talking about Psycology of Chess and such is a lot better than JR & King at this point.

Larry Zybysko is the worst announcer ever. He is the reason that my dad quit watching wrestling a few years ago.

He compared Flair's 14 title win to baseballs Hall of Fame or something along those lines. He was an idiot.

I didn't read the whole thread, but it seems to me like you're all forgetting one important thing. It's a fake title anyway. RVD is the most over wrestler on RAW so he should win the title. Hogan wasn't a great wrestler but he sold T-shirts and you can't say that RVD is a terrible wrestler.

He can have a PPV match with Jericho (they had a great ladder match at Unforgiven '01 and a good match on RAW).

He can also wrestle HBK in a face vs. face match.

It will be more interesting than HHH vs Kane.

RVD can carry Raw, with matches like:

vs Jericho

vs Christian

vs Hurricane

vs Booker T

vs Lance Storm if he can get his long pants back

all RVD need is a manager to help out with the promos, I suggest:

Shane O'Mac

Fonzie

Ernest Miller

DDP

RAW, Good stuff, bad stuff:

GOOD STUFF:

- Bischoff is always entertaining.

- HBK is still fun to watch.

- Jericho is coming into his own for the first time since WrestleMania.

- Booker is on the cusp of ME status.

- RVD rules.

- Tough Enough Wars

- Dreamer

- Raven coming soon

- Hurricane always cool.

BAD STUFF:

- Too much SE

- Bad booking decisions

- Angles have been substanderd for a siginificant time.

- HHH

- Test's continued push

- Batista is too bland

- D'lo is enhancement talent

- Women's matches suck

Victoria vs Trish is the worst SE TNA ever.......since Nipple Freak Terri was an announcer and active mud wrestler.

I wholeheartedly agree with that.

The only problem nowadays is that WWF/E has slowly walked away from the male manager. Only recently has it started coming back with Rico and Paul Heyman. Hopefully that means more are coming. I liked the days of Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, and the like.

Let's take a look at your choices for RVD's manager.

Shane O'Mac

With the exception of the fact that this means the return of a McMahon onto TV, this would be one of my favorite choices. Shane is energetic, and has that manager feel about him. The problem? Shane won't come back any time soon because he's upset with how the company is doing. Why the last time we saw him was only a short time.

Fonzie

As long as he kept that damn whistle away, I wouldn't mind this too. Then again, he was one ugly mo-fo...

Ernest Miller

Eeeeh...didn't like Ernest Miller that much. Maybe...I dunno. Anyway

DDP

Along with Shane O Mac, I would LOVE to see him as a manager. DDP started his career as a manager, so it wouldn't be THAT hard to go back to being one. The flaw? He's taller than the person he's managing!

Obviously you didn't read the thread, because we're not talking about the title.

you know, what better way to get rvd over as a heel than to give him fucking rico as a manager!!!!!?

i was thinking rico could give rvd some serious heat and rvd could possiby be the biggest heel this side of hhh. a heel rvd= a fresh raw storyline

In worked in ECW because he was constantly baked and always talked about being baked. Then he would throw in a couple "fucks" and call it a promo. That won't work in WWE. ECW didn't have a bunch of "marks" and children watching. WWE does.

Umm, what ecw promotion were you watching? Besides the RVD 4:20 shirt, I don't recall RVD constantly referring to being baked in promos. It was more of a fan/implied type of thing. And to set the record straight, besides saying, "the whole fucking show" he did not curse in his promos/interviews. So what in the hell are you talking about?
