Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 You know that thing, where a band covers another band's song in order to either... A) Make an impact B) Revitalise a career C) Fuck the song up In THIS case we shall be examining C. My vote CLEARLY goes to 'Sympathy for the Devil' by GNR. I LOVE GNR but JESUS Axl, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY LOVELY ROLLING STONES?!?! Eh...i DARE someone to try and top that Illusion - Original
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Aerosmith's "Dream On" Ronnie James Dio Murdered that Classic. "Sweet Child O' Mine" Sherl Crow.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Knockin' on Heaven's Door-GnR. I guess it's good if you like hearing Axl go "Do-awah." in a horridly nasal fashion. I'm not a huge fan of the original, but man did it get butchered. Love me Two Times-Aerosmith (doors) Just awful. terrible. Worse than bad. Six Feet Under-TNT (AC/DC) Hearing Chris Barnes go "Oi! Oi! Oi!" instantly sends me into fits of laughter and I can't take the rest of the song seriously.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Knockin' on Heaven's Door-GnR. Axl GREATLY misinterpreted that song. He sings it as though he's HAPPY to be knockin' on heaven's door when the song was written to display depression and lack of purpose in life. Your result, as you stated, is a crap cover... Geez, stick to what you write Mr.Rose, please. Illusion
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Love me Two Times-Aerosmith (doors) Just awful. terrible. Worse than bad. I'll even admit that one. They play the song alot better Live though. If you heard them do the version on "MTV Unplugged" you'll know what I mean.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Fear Factory's version of Gary Numan's "Cars" sucks a BUTT, too.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Also, Britney Spears, "(I Cant Get No) Satisfaction"
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Devo's cover of that is pretty amusing, though.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Kid Rock's Version of ZZ Tops "Legs" is Terrible.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 All of Kid Rock's songs are terrible. Kid Rock doing anything sucks. Like walking to the mailbox, or playing with Pam's diseased pooter. He's probably somewhere between 6-10 on my list of least favorite musicians ever.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 I actually think that GNR's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is better than the original.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 if i was more of a zep fan i'd probably flame flyboy to death. Any takers? I once downloaded a live bootleg version of The Motherfucking Smiths 'this charming man' covered by some band called sloan. Search for it. You will cry. For some reason i just couldn't stop listening to it though. Like a car wreck, expressed in musical form.
Guest goodhelmet Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Also, Britney Spears, "(I Cant Get No) Satisfaction" yeah, this is probably the worst cover i ever heard.... UNTIL i saw celine dion cover ac/dc's "you shook me all night long" on the divas special. MY GOD THAT SUCKED!
Guest Incandenza Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 if i was more of a zep fan i'd probably flame flyboy to death. Any takers? For some reason i just couldn't stop listening to it though. Like a car wreck, expressed in musical form. Um, Dylan originally did "Knockin'...," not Zep, so I don't know why you'd say that. Death Cab for Cutie does a charmingly awful cover of "This Charming Man," too. Singer Ben Gibbard even attempts to echo Morrissey's yelp.
Guest goodhelmet Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 i think he was thinking of stairway to heaven
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 John Cale's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Stick to the electric viola, my friend, and leave the singing to Jeff Buckley.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Kid Rock covering ZZ Top's "Legs" - Horrible, horrible butchering of a song that by itself is grounds to have him drawn and quartered as a musician. There were a few cover bands on ECW: The Music Volumes 1 and 2 that should be shot, but I've purposely drawn mental blanks on them.
Guest Incandenza Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Jeff Buckley is the only guy to get "Hallelujah" right. Marilyn Manson's faux scary covers of "Sweet Dreams" and "Tainted Love" are both lousy.
Guest Dace59 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Kilgore that coverd Walk? I've never been able to hear that cover, but I have their CD and it's ok.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 First thought that came to mind -- Crow's sweet child o' mine... First Doh-I-forgot-about-that-one-until-I-read-it-on-this-board -- Kid Rock's legs...
Guest Renegade Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Crazy: Sugarcoma -Fucking lame cover of an already lame song. Five: We will rock you -...WORST COVER EVER! Suspicious minds: Gareth Gates -Elvis must be turning in grave. A1: Take on me Again it falls into the no talent pop singers covering good songs. Any madhouse Madonna cover.

Death Cab for Cutie does a charmingly awful cover of "This Charming Man," too. Singer Ben Gibbard even attempts to echo Morrissey's yelp. i was thinking of stairway, yeah. Well i'll be damned. The only thing coming close to a good smiths cover is supergrass' version of 'some girls are bigger than others'. The deftones one was ok, but that's all it was. And if i find ANOTHER cover of 'how soon is now' i might have to stop listening to that song. Which is a shame.
Guest Sandman9000 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 I enjoyed Kilgore's cover of "Walk." I thought it was good. Better then whatever bad that did "Big Balls." And rap-rock should never, ever, disgrace a song like "Natural Born Killaz" again.
Guest Dace59 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Rap Rock shouldnt exsist at all.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 hmmm, in it's current form it should die a death involving staplers, but i can't discount the work of Run DMC/aerosmith and RATM. I'll take it over nu grunge. Just. In fact no, scratch that, cos nu grunge is funny whereas Limp Bizkit, yo etc is just sad.
Guest converge241 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Trixter (yes trixter) doing Terrible Lie- Nine Inch Nails
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 A Punk Tribute To Metallica. All but 2 covers are awful (only 2 good ones being "Motörbreath" and "I Disappear").
Guest Sandman9000 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 I never knew the word "good" could be associated with "I Disappear."
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Anti-Establishment, the band that covered it, actually made me like the song. Oh, and I lied. Of the 12 or so tracks, 3, not the previously stated 2, are good. The cover of "Until It Sleeps" is also fun.
Guest treble charged Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 GrimSkunk does a cover of Trooper's 'Raise A Little Hell' on the FUBAR soundtrack that really doesn't do the original justice. Which is weird, since I like most of the covers on that CD over the originals.
