Guest Nevermortal Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Six Feet Under-TNT (AC/DC) Hearing Chris Barnes go "Oi! Oi! Oi!" instantly sends me into fits of laughter and I can't take the rest of the song seriously. Oh jeez, that whole album (Graveyard Classics) is fucking putrid. But the worst outing there is without a doubt Purple Haze. Pure shit.
Guest Anorak Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 All Saints version of 'Under The Bridge' was crap.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Darwin's Waiting Room - Fast Car Type O Negative - Highway Star (Hed) PE - Sabbra Caddabra
Guest CED Ordonez Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I enjoyed Kilgore's cover of "Walk." I thought it was good. Better then whatever bad that did "Big Balls." And rap-rock should never, ever, disgrace a song like "Natural Born Killaz" again. Now that you mention it, Kilgore's cover is pretty damn slick. For a time I preferred it over the original before Pantera finally grew on me. And while we're at it, yes, take out the people responsible for the "Natural Born Killaz" cover, while playing the original and yelling "This is how it's supposed to be done!" and swearing alot.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 if i was more of a zep fan i'd probably flame flyboy to death. Any takers? I once downloaded a live bootleg version of The Motherfucking Smiths 'this charming man' covered by some band called sloan. Search for it. You will cry. For some reason i just couldn't stop listening to it though. Like a car wreck, expressed in musical form. Um, Dylan originally did "Knockin'...," not Zep, so I don't know why you'd say that. Death Cab for Cutie does a charmingly awful cover of "This Charming Man," too. Singer Ben Gibbard even attempts to echo Morrissey's yelp. Right, we've got the fact Bob Dylan wrote the song out of the way... I agree the song is passable, but if Mr.Rose had actually THOUGHT as to what the song MEANS and its message that is being expressed through the lyrics, he might have been able to make the song match the original, possibly surpass it given his talent. Notice no Metallica mentioned here? THAT'S CAUSE THEY FUCKIN' RULE Illusion
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Now that ya mention it... Metallica's "Last Caress/Green Hell." 'Nuff said. That's really the only cover they've done I don't like.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Their cover of Turn The Page didn't compare to the original.
Guest Bricks Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 yeah, this is probably the worst cover i ever heard.... UNTIL i saw celine dion cover ac/dc's "you shook me all night long" on the divas special. MY GOD THAT SUCKED! I can't look at AC/DC without thinking of Celine. It was that bad.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 OH DEAR FUCKING GOD! I can't believe that actually exists. I. MUST. DOWN. LOAD. IT. NOW~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest cabbageboy Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Heh, on Garage Inc. I didn't much care for Metallica's cover of Sabbra Cadabra. It sounded too clunky compared to the faster original.
Guest Bricks Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 This should really end all discussion of worst cover ever. CELINE~!
Guest Zero_Cool Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Britney's cover the "Satisfaction" was ghey on so many damned levels. I don't care what the bitch was wearing, either! Also, Metallica's version of the Seger classic "Turn the Page" was very dissapointing once I actually heard the original. It was kind of look reading reading the book after seeing the movie, I guess.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Notice no Metallica mentioned here? THAT'S CAUSE THEY FUCKIN' RULE Illusion ::Finds a dull and rusty axe:: The only reason I haven't yet is because I promised myself I would stop turning threads into metallica bashing, even though it's pretty much appropriate at all times. I hate every single metallica song ever though, so I can't really look at their covers without automatically saying they suck ass, which they do with gusto. You take AC/DC songs seriously? I didn't word that quite the way I wanted to. I can listen to about anything objectively as to whether I think it's good or not, regardless if I like it, but that cover just instantly sends me into hysterics, thus making it impossible to do so. It's just that brutally awful.

Fair enough, i know quite a number think that. However, have you heard Garage Inc.? If not, it is a double album of pure Metallica covers and honestly, on first listen you'd think they were original Met-material, because they play the songs so convincingly. Of course, as with everything Metallica, the earlier covers blow the recent stuff away. Namely 'Am I Evil', which pretty much is your average rock orgasim. Wonder if they're new album coming next year will be worse than Load... Illusion
Guest J*ingus Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 A couple that I've heard that weren't so much terrible (most that came to mind have already been mentioned), as much as downright weird: -Nick Cave covering Mack the Knife. Doesn't sound terribly weird, it's his kind of material, right? Well, Nick went and changed most of the lyrics (subtly, it takes a minute to notice it), and the song ended up a LOT darker than the original, to the point where he's singing about Mack burning down orphanages and violating children. Really ewky. -Tom Waits doing Hey Big Spender in a live show, randomly seguing into it during Small Change (one of his long spoken monologues). -Motorhead covering Enter Sandman on the first ECW album. Thinking about the thought process that went into that decision makes my head hurt. -Smells Like Teen Spirit... by... Tori Amos?! Actually a good listen, but really, really odd to hear at all in the first place.
Guest Nevermortal Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 Lemme add Tori Amos covering Raining Blood. Its not that its particularly putrid, its just hard to believe that its fucken Raining Blood being covered.
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 Cradle of Filth covering "Hallowed Be Thy Name". That this even EXISTS pisses me off. I can't STAND their vocalist, and when compared to Dickinson, my personal favourite, I just wanna shoot something. Manson's "Highway to Hell" is bad as well, and I think it was the Cardigans (I could be dead wrong...some one hit wonders from like...96-97) who covered a few Sabbath songs that sucked.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 Bite your tongue. COF's cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name is one of the best covers ever. Although Dani Filth's voice is an acquired taste, admitidly.

Guest welshjerichomark Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 monica covering "angel of mine". that chick just cannot sing
Guest evenflowDDT Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 The Sundays - "Wild Horses" I'm listening to this right now... never heard of it, but... it just doesn't sound right, especially with all the additional layering between verses that makes the song sound like it floats on air. Ironically, the reason I like the original so much is because it makes me feel that, but this one attempts to force an even greater dreamy feeling with all this additional production, plus the female vocals just don't have the depth of Jagger. I wouldn't exactly call it "worst" just yet, but its playing now and its really bothering me.
Guest Kinetic Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 Oh, that "Shook Me All Night Long Thing" on the Divas special was terrible. Then again, it was done in a pretty ironic fashion and I don't think it was ever given a proper recording or release, so it's forgivable. I reviewed that show, actually, and made a pretty funny little joke regarding that cover. Good stuff. Guns N Roses also covered "Live and Let Die" in pretty unspectacular fashion. It's a lot better than Winger's cover of the theme to "Moonraker," but not what I'd consider good.
Guest ZGangsta Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 Knockin' on Heaven's Door-GnR. I guess it's good if you like hearing Axl go "Do-awah." in a horridly nasal fashion. I'm not a huge fan of the original, but man did it get butchered. Um, considering that Bob Dylan himself has said that the best version of Knockin' is Guns n Roses' version, I think we can say that is wasn't butchered.
Guest Incandenza Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 Was Dylan high when he said that? Seriously, a musician's opinion isn't the final word on quality.
Guest Kinetic Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 Bob Dylan's said a lot of stuff. If you read up on the man a bit, you'll find that he's a totally unreliable source for any sort of information or opinion. He openly contradicts himself all of the time and seems pretty unapologetic about it. He probably made the statement in question because he wanted to tour with Axl or fuck his wife or something.

Um, considering that Bob Dylan himself has said that the best version of Knockin' is Guns n Roses' version, I think we can say that is wasn't butchered. Have YOU heard the song? Listen to the lyrics of the orignal, how they are performed by Dylan then listen to the GNR version. Knockin' On Heaven's Door is not meant to be a happy song, it is meant to be about a person who has lost all purpose to exist anymore. Axl sings the song with a catchy under-tone, yes, however it is done as though Axl believes this song is something a happy person should be listening to. Axl just didn't understand the meaning of the song, therefore it wasn't as effective as it could have been. This was repeated serveral times with GNR, more noticeably the previously mentioned 'Sympathy for the Devil' which showed Axl spit on a perfectly good Rolling Stones song. Illusion - Cover me!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 However, have you heard Garage Inc.? If not, it is a double album of pure Metallica covers and honestly, on first listen you'd think they were original Met-material, because they play the songs so convincingly. I've heard pretty much everything metallica's done, considering the people I hang around love 'em. That's not my most hated metallica cd, but to pick just one that I hate more than the rest would be like choosing which of my children is my favorite, if I had children. Gun to my head, and it's probably Master of Puppets, although all of them make a strong case.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 His growls are way better than his screams, though. He should hit more low stuff.
