Guest spiny norman Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 What's everyone's fave chick song? Mine would be: Madonna - Crazy For You Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse Of The Heart
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I don't think I'm too clear on the subject, so I'll just assume a song with a female vocalist. I'm not sure. Probably White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, although Arch Enemy makes a strong case. I need to hear more of both bands, even if they're completely different from one another.
Guest starvenger Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 I don't think I'm too clear on the subject, so I'll just assume a song with a female vocalist. I'm assuming that he means the musical equivalent of a chick flick - any sappy love ballad sung by a female, in which case I'd go with Coco Lee's version of "To Love You More"
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 "Saturnine" - The Gathering
Guest welshjerichomark Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 toni braxton-un-break my heart maria mckee- show me heaven
Guest saturnmark4life Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 when the working day is done....(all together now)
Guest Flyboy Posted November 16, 2002 Report Posted November 16, 2002 So many... I'd have to say Spice Girls' "Time Goes By" for mine.
Guest DawnBTVS Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Connie Dover - "I'm Going To the West" I'm so digging her, thanks to my Journalism teacher Alanis Morissette - "You Oughtta Know" Come on...Canadian gal comes onto the scene with this great "tortured no more cuz I'm pissed off" song
Guest Flyboy Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 I could name Alanis Morissette songs for a long time. Fiona Apple's "Get Gone" is good stuff, too.
Guest DawnBTVS Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Speaking of Fiona Apple, I like her song "Criminal" a lot too.
Guest T®ITEC Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 I prefer "Fast As You Can" and "Paper Bag" to "Criminal", but that's just a matter of taste. Uhm, oh yeah, a song. Once again, I'll go with a Julie Doiron track... "In This Dark". It's not sappy or anything, but it's a sweet song. Erykah Badu has done some good "chick stuff" too, I think.
Guest Incandenza Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Anything by Aimee Mann prior to the mediocre Lost in Space.
Guest Kinetic Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 You're both wrong on the Fiona Apple count, as "The Way Things Are" is clearly the best song on her second album. "Criminal" and "Sleep To Dream" are also most excellent, although I don't know if any of the songs I've mentioned classify as "chick songs." A truly excellent chick song, and stop me if I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, would be Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U"--one of Kinetic's favorite love songs of the 90s.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Eh. I like "Get Gone" more than "The Way Things Are", but that's just me.
Guest spiny norman Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Kinetic's Taste > Everyone Else's Here Bar Me We must all embrace Nothing Compares 2 U love, it is the best song of the last fifteen years, in my opinion (and really, do any others count?)
Paul Stanley Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Sattelite
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Kylie Minogue -- Fragile Sophie Ellis Bextor -- There Are Worse Things Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest ryankeast Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Yes Sinead O Connors Nothing Compares To You is a great tune (Didn't Prince Write it - If so well done you little purple git) I agree with Total Eclipse of The Heart Aswell - great tune. I'll add Joan Armatrading - Love And Affection.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Yes Sinead O Connors Nothing Compares To You is a great tune (Didn't Prince Write it - If so well done you little purple git) Prince did write it, and he sang it with someone... Can't think of her name, right now. I have the MP3 floating around somewhere.
Guest Nevermortal Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 "City of Angels" by The Distillers
Guest C-Bacon Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Holly McNarland - Do You Get high, Numb, More. Holly rocks!
Guest Jubuki Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Oh come on. How can this go so long without mentioning Crash and Burn from Sheryl Crow? And get some Joan Jett while you're at it, too, buncha yutzes.
Guest Anorak Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Oh come on. How can this go so long without mentioning Crash and Burn from Sheryl Crow? And get some Joan Jett while you're at it, too, buncha yutzes. Sheryl Crow's a third rate Lucinda Williams, no female artist has written more great songs for every kind of emotion than she has in the last dozen years or so. 'Blue' off the "Essence" album is the prettiest and saddest song I've heard in years. Neko Case and Mary Gautier are both great artists as well. Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch probably have the best and most distinctive voices female voices around, Ruth Minnikin always sounds perfect whenever she sings for either The Heavy Blinkers or The Guthries as well.
Guest Jubuki Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Who cares what rate of whoever she is - I'm talking about one song. Crash and Burn is a great fucking song, boss.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Is This Woman's Work by Kate Bush a chick song? If so, that's my pick. Or maybe even Angel by Sarah Maclachlan or whatever..
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Speaking of Sarah MacLachlan, I just heard a cover of Possession done by Type O Negative... It was different. I'll just say that. I liked it..but it was...different.
