About Finishers

Recommended Posts

Just to get off the nightmarish possible scenerios for this Sunday, I would like to talk about finishing manuevers in WWE today.

Who do you think have good finishers...and who has bad ones?

Hate HHH all you one, but the Pedigree is a legitamately dangerous finisher.

The F5 is impressive looking, as is the Angle Slam.

Kurt's version of the Ankle Lock isn't that great to me. too easy to get out of. I say Shamrock did it better when he did it.

The Chokeslam, in my opinion, will never work as a finisher. Set up to a finisher, maybe. But not a final finisher.

What do you people think?

I think all of Edge's finishers BLOW

I actually think the F-Five blows too.

Alot of moves just look like lazy DDTs nowadays.

Well, I agree about Edge's.

I miss when he did the Downward Spiral.

Oh...and a move I will always miss until they let him bring it out again: The Vertibreaker!

If there was a way for Hurricane to fight a shoot match and somehow get the Vertibreaker on HHH, I would cheer my f'n head off.

Any finisher that Test has had SUCKS, except for when he used to do the Savage elbow.

The F5's purpose escapes me. Someone tried to tell me once how the person it was used on was supposed to come down on their heads, but I always see it as just a full front-of-the-body impact.

The ankle lock looks much more powerful when done in a kneeling position. When standing, it looks like you're just holding onto their foot while jerking and pushing on it.

Test's new whateveritis that he does is looks savage, but is like the F5, looks painful, but you don't know why.

Fo sheez,

Kotzenjunge

Thing to think about though...

As bad as some finishers are out there today...there have been A LOT worse...

Outback Jack's double clothesline...as well as the dreaded "Garvin Stomp"

Test's new finish (The Test Drive?) would be great if i could figure out just what the hell he does to the guy

Well, my favorite finish of all time is 3D: The Dudley Death Drop. It appears as if those days are over though. I don't even want to think about Bubba & Spike doing it.

Single wrestler wise, I'm a Diamond Cutter mark. I used to watch Nitro & Thunder just to see if someone would get cut.

I like the Evenflow/Raven Effect DDT too. I mean, it's really just a normal DDT, but ever since the promo where Raven said he learned it from the Snake, who invented it, I just have to like it.

I'm a big fan of upper body submissions too. Tazmission/Cobra Clutch/Million Dollar Dream type moves.

You don't see it as much anymore, but the Trailer Hitch is pretty cool.

The same thing that Reno did in WCW.. you know, when Reno did it first.

Pedigrees good, as is 5-star.

Always thought the swanton looked pretty, but completely lacked impact.

Never liked any of Rock's finishers that much, (people's elbow sucks, as does rockshooter, the Rock Bottom's okay though.)

F5 looks dangerous, but part of that is it looks sloppy.

The Evenflow is, IMO the best DDT ever.

I like the El Paso Lasso.

Benoit should go back to a Dragon Suplex or something, because though I like the crossface, like the Walls, it's lost a lot of credibility, and only one MEer has put it over decently. (Rock)

Eye of the Hurricane strikes me as one of those moves I like, but definitely shouldn't be a finisher. Like the Rocker Dropper.

I don't know if Reno was first - didn't Nova (serious this time) and Christopher Daniels use it before him?

Agreed. He always seems to "skid" over the opponent, or only make contact with his neck/shoulders.

worst finisher are the kicks by Chuck Palumbo, Justin Jobber, anybody not named Shawn Michaels.

Edge Spear is equally bad

I mark out for the Garvin Stomp :firedevil:

I fail to grasp the logic of Roll the dice as well.

I agree that Page's Cutter often were the highlights of the show...HE MADE you watch the match because you NEVER knew when it was coming...off a clothesline, a roll up, a Suplex or off the top rope.

Angle Lock is poorly done half the time...Only thing Shamrock did better then Angle...well other then Scream.

Stubby's crossface still works.

Uhh...I fail to get the point of a 619...lacks realism...You can do a F5 in a fight...unless a fight breaks out in the YARN n ELASTIC R us...619 won't go down.

Simple things I can use in a fight are the best...Van Daminator might work sometimes...

but for Wrestling only....The beauty of Frog ; Van Dam's Height and Eddy's grace are still tops in The game.

....I hope that you're kidding...

...you're probably not though...

*HOGAN TOUCH OF DEATH*

...that reminds me...as bad as people say Hogan's legdrop was as a finisher...you have to remember that the legdrop wasn't alone all the time.

Usually the three punches and a big boot have it set up. I could believable believe that all 3 parts (the 3 punches, the big boot, and the legdrop) in that order could knock out someone.

six second magic rules the roost...

Heh, your name reminded me of one more reason why I hate Jim Ross. Have you ever noticed that when someone who loses a lot, like Al Snow, actually wins a match J.R. can never remember the name of their finisher. He called the Snow Plow a modified suplex.

Dumb fucker.

But is the third step even neccesary in a fight?

I always thought of it as insult to injury. Just like when the Rock hits Rock Bottom then the People's Elbow. The Rock Bottom knocks them out, and the People's Elbow is the humiliate them before the pinfall. Just like Hogan's boot is what knocks them out.. or if they are a fatty.. he just slams them.

Are you gonna big boot someone in a fight? If you try to do wrestling moves when fighting, you're a goddamn fool anyway.

I'm not saying it's necessary in a fight...but I'm saying that combo, if actually executed, could work to knock someone out.

I rather watch Ronnie Garvin do the Stomp instead of a Sunset Flip or Roll up to win. If only Los Inferinos could incorporate it into one of their matches, then I would just go crazy.

I like Tajiri's kick finish but it would be more believable if it was done in a long match.

Total Elimation was a good one also, nothing beats the Saturn & Kronus kick finish.

I am not saying that I get in fights and try to put someone in a Cross face of a Razor's Edge...Things like a Stiff kick to the chin will work in a fight...
