Guest snowfan Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 are cool in a round about way. Getting over his "pansyhood" by having him complain about chafing differentiates him from other WWE guys. I still think they are being a bit too obvious in his Rock v 2.0 push but if he got a new finisher and rounded out his moveset I think he has enough Charisma to make it.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Yes they are awesome vignettes. Let's just hope he can be good in the ring where it counts when he returns.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 They need to have one where he comes on and says: "I just ate a turkey sandwhich today with lettuce... mmm...lettuce."
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 His RNN reports are hilarious. When he was giving out reports that his sling was chaffing him, I couldn't stop laughing.
Guest DragonflyKid Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 If they keep up with the vignette's as good as they have been by the time he returns he'll probably be more over than he would have been if the injury had never occured. While on Smackdown I didn't care for him, not because he was bad in the ring but because he had no personality. Now I want to see him return and see if he is to establish himself as a star. RNN was a great idea.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 I find it very similar to Mattitude, which you could make the argument was very similar to Jericho in WCW. I guess that's why everyone is loving it so much...
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 They NEED James Earl Jones for this one....pay him a million bucks, I don't care. " This is RNN."
Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 It's defaintly Raw's most entertaining segment right now. I am diggin RNN
Guest DragonflyKid Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 They still have to go to RNN Breaking News in the middle of a boring match, Randy can come on during the match and say "I'm sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled matchup but I must report the fact that I sneezed several minutes ago. Preliminary reports are sketchy, it may be an allergic reaction of some kind or I could be coming down with a cold. Whatever may be the cause of the sneeze in question keep me in your hearts and send a get-well e-mail to WWE.com. I will keep my fans updated throughout the RAW broadcast as breaking news warrants." Then later on during a HHH promo another RNN breaking news report can come up with Randy in a doctor's office getting checked out, when it's confirmed to just be a pepper-induced sneeze Randy can assure his legion of fans that he will be okay.

Guest TheArchiteck Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 lol...good idea. But once a night is good enough I think.

That is golden. Especially breaking in during a HHH interview. They could be on to something with Orton, if they don't screw it up.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Here's hoping he doesnt end up a comedy JTTS. I can see it happening because he's obviously got some charisma, he's young and still developing his ring presence. BAH GAWD he might end up accidentally getting himself over and we must avert this disaster before it happens.

I think that Orton is every bit as capable in the potential department that the Pebble was....
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Next week on RAW: "Welcome-uh to R-uh-N-N-uh with the latest-uh update on-uh the condition-uh of Randy Orton-uh. Guest Tony149 Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 They NEED James Earl Jones for this one....pay him a million bucks, I don't care. " This is RNN." If they wanted to do that, they should just use Ron Simmons. He already works for them.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 This is actually a good way to get Orton somewhat over with the fans. I'd actually compare this gimmick to a mix of Angle and the Rock. The only thing I hope is that the WWE doesn't decide to just place Orton on Heat, and have him go nowhere. If pushed right, Orton has a bright future in the WWE.
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Those RNN reports are getting better and better. They even interrupted the Shawn Michaels segment a few weeks ago! Funniest one, the sling chaffing his arm....what a classic. Orton is gonna be SO OVER as a heel.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Let's see, he's a charismatic, sarcastic, heel. AND he's doing nothing but intterupting for a month? He'll be getting face pops in a month.
Guest BaldFish Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 For some reason, I couldn't stop laughing because of the use of the phrase "applied some ointment". I'd say that RNN and Nowinski are the high points of RAW right now--and I'm a huge RVD mark.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 I /still/ don't get this character. Why is anyone supposed to react to him? Why is anyone supposed to care?
Guest snowfan Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 I /still/ don't get this character. Why is anyone supposed to react to him? Why is anyone supposed to care? He is a thrid generation star that is self-centered, egotistical, and unpolished. Sort of like the Pebble. He also is getting good heat from me for not talking about how tough-uh he is, but instead acting as though chafing is the end of the world....
Guest the 1inch punch Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 Because he's a prick and we respond to them, (Matt Hardy, Mr 80's John Cena, WCW Jericho)
Guest Vyce Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 I'm still upset about how disingenious it is that the WWE is actively trying to make him into the new Rock (that is to say, making us try to hate him, which only gets him over and gives him heat and makes us want to cheer him, etc.), and I've yet to be THAT impressed with him in the ring, but the RNN segments are pretty damn funny and they could have something good with this IF they go all the way with it and do it right. I mean, he should just be a total egotistical dick who is so jaded and self-centered that he's almost completely out of touch with reality. I'd love for him to come out there and just be an asshole, always talking about his skills and wrestling lineage, and then when the fans boo him, to misconstrue that as fan support.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted November 17, 2002 Report Posted November 17, 2002 What he says isn't nearly as entertaining as the information bar at the bottom of the screen. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest art_vandelay Posted November 18, 2002 Report Posted November 18, 2002 I like all of the ideas mentioned in this thread. They can be so creative with this. I especially liked the Triple H interruption, though only a pipe dream. After Ron Simmon's "This is RNN" plays to end the RNN update, the camera can go back to a disgruntled Triple H in the ring, and, with his face scrunched up and snorting, just as he's about to say something like, "You little punk – get your ass ou--- WE INTERRUPT THIS BROADCAST FOR AN SPECIAL RNN NEWS BULLETIN." It's like SNL.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 18, 2002 Report Posted November 18, 2002 Why are people comparing this guy to Rock, though? I only started watching when Rock and Foley were having I Quit and Emtpy Arena matches and the like for the title, and the crowd really enjoyed him as a heel.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted November 18, 2002 Report Posted November 18, 2002 Because when Rock debuted in '96, he was known as Rocky Maivia, the young rookie and third-generation wrestler. Sound familiar? That's where the Randy Orton comparison begins to come in. Rocky became over-pushed, and fans began to hate him as a result, with chants and signs of "Rocky Sucks" and "Die Rocky Die". After an injury, he came back as The Rock, turning fully heel and joining the Nation of Domination. And now the WWE is trying to do the same type of heel turn with Orton, this time intentionally.
Guest art_vandelay Posted November 18, 2002 Report Posted November 18, 2002 Why are people comparing this guy to Rock, though? Because they're both 3rd generation superstars and because it was that fact alone which was the sole premise behind their introductory pushes. Both of which, were completely unsuccessful and resulted in 2 vanilla personas that fans didn't react to very well. Personally, I don't think RNN has any more in common with The Rock than John Cena, Matt Hardy, Superheavyweight Hardcore Holly, or any other of those gimmicks do besides the fact that they were both initially pushed as 3rd gen stars.
