Getting over his "pansyhood" by having him complain about chafing differentiates him from other WWE guys.

 

I still think they are being a bit too obvious in his Rock v 2.0 push but if he got a new finisher and rounded out his moveset I think he has enough Charisma to make it.

His RNN reports are hilarious. When he was giving out reports that his sling was chaffing him, I couldn't stop laughing.

If they keep up with the vignette's as good as they have been by the time he returns he'll probably be more over than he would have been if the injury had never occured.

 

While on Smackdown I didn't care for him, not because he was bad in the ring but because he had no personality. Now I want to see him return and see if he is to establish himself as a star.

I find it very similar to Mattitude, which you could make the argument was very similar to Jericho in WCW. I guess that's why everyone is loving it so much...

Then later on during a HHH promo another RNN breaking news report can come up with Randy in a doctor's office getting checked out, when it's confirmed to just be a pepper-induced sneeze Randy can assure his legion of fans that he will be okay.

That is golden. Especially breaking in during a HHH interview. They could be on to something with Orton, if they don't screw it up.

This is actually a good way to get Orton somewhat over with the fans. I'd actually compare this gimmick to a mix of Angle and the Rock. The only thing I hope is that the WWE doesn't decide to just place Orton on Heat, and have him go nowhere. If pushed right, Orton has a bright future in the WWE.

I'm still upset about how disingenious it is that the WWE is actively trying to make him into the new Rock (that is to say, making us try to hate him, which only gets him over and gives him heat and makes us want to cheer him, etc.), and I've yet to be THAT impressed with him in the ring, but the RNN segments are pretty damn funny and they could have something good with this IF they go all the way with it and do it right.

 

I mean, he should just be a total egotistical dick who is so jaded and self-centered that he's almost completely out of touch with reality. I'd love for him to come out there and just be an asshole, always talking about his skills and wrestling lineage, and then when the fans boo him, to misconstrue that as fan support.

I like all of the ideas mentioned in this thread. They can be so creative with this. I especially liked the Triple H interruption, though only a pipe dream. After Ron Simmon's "This is RNN" plays to end the RNN update, the camera can go back to a disgruntled Triple H in the ring, and, with his face scrunched up and snorting, just as he's about to say something like, "You little punk – get your ass ou--- WE INTERRUPT THIS BROADCAST FOR AN SPECIAL RNN NEWS BULLETIN." It's like SNL.

Why are people comparing this guy to Rock, though?

 

I only started watching when Rock and Foley were having I Quit and Emtpy Arena matches and the like for the title, and the crowd really enjoyed him as a heel.

Because when Rock debuted in '96, he was known as Rocky Maivia, the young rookie and third-generation wrestler.

 

Sound familiar? That's where the Randy Orton comparison begins to come in.

 

Rocky became over-pushed, and fans began to hate him as a result, with chants and signs of "Rocky Sucks" and "Die Rocky Die". After an injury, he came back as The Rock, turning fully heel and joining the Nation of Domination.

 

And now the WWE is trying to do the same type of heel turn with Orton, this time intentionally.

Because they're both 3rd generation superstars and because it was that fact alone which was the sole premise behind their introductory pushes. Both of which, were completely unsuccessful and resulted in 2 vanilla personas that fans didn't react to very well.

 

Personally, I don't think RNN has any more in common with The Rock than John Cena, Matt Hardy, Superheavyweight Hardcore Holly, or any other of those gimmicks do besides the fact that they were both initially pushed as 3rd gen stars.
