Ah. I misinterpreted your point. In that case, buy as much booze as your heart desires.

As long as we're clear that I want no part of paying for gas once I reach Kotz's place. The booze, however, shall be plentiful.

Crystal clear. That fucking Black Manta is probably a gas guzzler. I'm going to have to join the military.

Kotz should take the majority of the gas cost, then. It's not YOUR fault that he chooses to drive an environmentally unsound vehicle.

I leave for a few hours, everyone plots against me. I DO expect to shoulder the majority of gas cost, but Kinetic's not getting a free ride. Inc's understandable. How's paying 1/4 of gas sound?

Peachy. I've decided to join the military anyway, so I'm a little less strangled by cost constraints.

You? In the military? Hmm. Better one of us weirdos joins, I suppose. What branch?

I just found this, and I know Inc always checks this thread, so:

Get a picture of Alf and Hogan together.

Both are 80's has-beens now but some of us still love them.

:P

Except Hogan cuz no one likes Hogan.

Air Force. That's what my dad's been in for the last 20+ years and he tells me it's the easiest. I'm going in for the minimum--four years, I believe--to get the money and the funding for my education. I've been thinking about this all day and it really seems like the only decision I can make, lest I want to live with my grandparents for the next three or four years. No thank you.

I once vowed that I'd never join the military, unless my only other option was prison. The day will come, I'm sure....

I've vowed many times to not join the military but my back's against the wall, at this point. I have three options, basically:

1.) Continue living with my grandparents and go to college here. Be miserable and have no money.

2.) Elect not to go to college and move into my own place. This would quite handily eliminate any future I might have outside of the service sector unless I become a wealthy entertainer. Not a gamble I'm willing to take.

3.) Join the military. Get signing bonus and have college education funded at the cost of four years of my meaningless existence.

It just makes sense.

I haven't actually mentioned my plan to anyone yet, unfortunately. I just made the decision today. I'll go the recruiter in January--after the holidays--and see from there. The sooner, the better.

The Marines almost got me. The guy was so nice!!

And why didn't Inc like my little present for him?

Joining the military is a pretty big step in life. The biggest concern I have right now is if I should continue writing for the mainpage.

Guest Kinetic

I'm not cut out for the Marines. I'm totally average and not particularly proud of anything.

And I'm really in need of some sort of kick in the ass. I've done a whole lot of nothing since high school--not to mention the copious amounts of nothing that I did while in high school--and now I'm in a jam. Well, whatever. Maybe I'll get to go overseas.

You should go to school for at least one more semester. This is the kind of thing you should sanction A LOT of time to think about.

EDIT: And I'm this close to quitting writing for the main page. I'll probably come to my final conclusion whilst sitting alone in the radio station tomorrow.

Eh...I'd end up talking myself out of it. I've spent a whole day thinking about it and have yet to come up with any real reason not to go ahead. As long as I don't fall madly in love or get dissuaded by the recruiter, I'm pretty much committed to this.

Why are you quitting? Do what I do: Keep your membership just in case you have a brilliant idea, but very rarely contribute anything.

I've never seriously considered military life, but if you see the possibility of talking yourself out of it, shouldn't that be telling you something? This is why I said I'd only go if prison was my only other option; unless I'm gung ho about the military, I'd want no part of it. But maybe that's just me.

I've lost the desire to write for so little in return. I put a lot of work into my columns; if I just wanted to toss off something, I'd do it in the forum (where it'd get more readers, anyway). I have plenty of ideas, but I feel they'd just go to waste.

Makes sense. I'm all about common sense now. The impulsive, irresponsible Kinetic you all knew is dead. In his place is a young man who's serious about his future and dedicated to serving his country.

I really wish I didn't have to cut my hair, though.

I'm gone for nearly a day and now I find out that Kinetic might join the Marines and that Incandenza will quit being a writer for the Smarts site.

Times be changing.

Kinetic: I take it your posting will decrease dramatically over the next couple months?

Incandenza: I have not yet read any of your articles due to my lack of interest in reading most of the articles put up but I will get around to read yours.

Happy Turkey day everyone!

Ha, I know you've gotta read my recaps, they rule too much to ignore.

I'm still curious as to why my mulling over not going nearly brought this proposed gathering to a crashing halt. Why can this not go on without me?

*Makes unscheduled, probably unwarranted appearance*

The military has been HOUNDING me since I got conned into that stupid ASVAB test and scored pretty well on it. By the time I knew what it was for, I already filled out the form.

I think my sister took one of those in high school just for an excuse to get out of a class. They called her periodically for two or three years after graduating.

Guest Kotzenjunge

I signed up to take it, but no one ever told me when it was, so I didn't take it. Good thing too, as they'd have loved to have a psychopath like me.

And Inc, the reason the idea almost collapsed was because there was an unspoken stillness over this thread, and you were the first to out and say that interest seemed to have waned.

Fo sheez,

Kotzenjunge
