Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Oh come on. Between Chyna, Kronik and Goldberg, I'm pretty sure anyone could get a job over there.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Yeah....while Japan generally produces better wrestling. It isn't exactly the holy land where no bad happens.
Guest HartFan86 Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Oh come on. Between Chyna, Kronik and Goldberg, I'm pretty sure anyone could get a job over there. But not every American wrestler is gunna want to go and live in Japan for the rest of their lives. Even if the money is good.
Guest Tim Cooke Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Goldberg = Draw in Japan, at least temporarily. Crack head Mutoh, the equiv of Bangs, brought in Kronic. Inoki, crack head #2, brought in Chyna. But what do I know. I have only been watching Japan TV for 10 yrs. Tim
Guest RickyChosyu Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Oh no, Tim, don't spread your NEGATIVE ENERGY around here! Remember, if you just stop thinking about it entirely, it might seem good to you. I like the tag matches as much as anyone, but I couldn't bother to give a crap about anything that happened in the three-way last night. That's where I tend to seperate good work from good wrestling. Good work is fun to watch, and, on the surface, is exciting and keeps the viewer interested for the body of the match. Good wrestling makes an impression on the viewer after the match is over, whether it be making a heel some more hateable, or a babyface more likeable. When I watch the tag matches with the three teams, I see no reason why one is any more worth watching than the other, or what any of them have to do with one another. There's nothing connecting them, nothing making them part of a bigger picture. I don't know who's booking the division, but I wouldn't be suprised if Heyman is behind it, since this World Series esque booking is completely his style. It seems as though the WWE hopes that if they book the same match a hundred times, people will believe that a division now exists, but why would someone tune in to see the same wrestlers doing the same match a hundred times? It's competely repetative, does nothing for anyone involved, and turns people appathetic to matches that could be used to make money. If, after all the tag matches, all the singles matches, the tourniments, the run ins, the interviews, if after all that, I still don't care about the wrestlers involved one way or another, I have trouble calling it good wrestling. Good work, yes, but not good wrestling. I really don't see how anyone can defend the rest of the show. Even making fun of the crappy wrestling got borring after a while, to be perfectly honest.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 You know, Tim's quite right. When WCW slumped, like WWE is now, everyone said, despite how bad thier business may get, there is no possible way in fuck that WCW could go under, just like people say about WWE now. Obviously it's not likely because Vince will be willing to take a much bigger loss than Turner would. But to just say "It could never happen" is kind of silly, seeing as we just watched it happen two years ago. As for the Japan discussion, it can all be explained by a phrase that is dear to the puro folder's heart, especially Ricky I bet: Keji Mutoh is an ass.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 There were some things about Survivor Series that I enjoyed, but they weren't enough to negate what made me stop watching wrestling a while ago: POLITICS.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 If the WEEEEE dies, it won't matter to me. The real talent will always have somewhere to wrestle for a nice paycheck. The lousy ones will get what they deserve, nothing. You wouldn't happen to work the cash at a Wal-Mart would you?
Guest RickyChosyu Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Mutoh, as Tim pointed out, has converted to being a complete crack head, along with Inoki, and is taking profesional wrestling to new depths of crappy wrestling that I didn't think possible. That said, it's not just him, and it's not just Inoki, either. Everyone is making stupid choices all over the place, and it's made for the worste year in quite some time, from all acounts.
Guest Paranoid Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 I think it was a damn good PPV. I just watched it via free downloads, but it was great! And for all the fuckers saying Jeff fucked up, Rico and Jamal were pretty quick to get back to the ring after that 25ft swanton bomb onto the concrete. So Rico shouldn't have said shit and worked the match a little slower for Jeff!
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 I was entertained for 2 3/4 hours, which is what they went for. I'm happy. Of course, that doesn't mean that the title bookings weren't absolutely, mind-blowingly incorrect. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest RedJed Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Everyone knew it would suck ass. You're either really dense if you thought otherwise or mentally ill if you think the show was okay. I agree with the rest of your post other than this, just because you can't stereotype what everyone likes about a particular show. It's borderline disrespect for everyone's opinions and it's unneccessary. So because I was actually entertained by the ppv that makes me mentally ill or not a true fan like you or something? I mean cmon, WTF man.
Guest Brian Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Survivor series was horrible booking all around. Wrestling was solid, but did anyone else notice Edge get really screwed up during the second fall of the tag match? But everything from Knoble losing the title, to Brock losing, to HBK winning. The only good moves they made were uniting the dudleys (just because it was the right thing) and putting the titles on the Guerreros because it will allow an Angle face turn if they still go through with it. Of course, the WCW argument is somewhat different because we always though that Turner would back up WCW with the dollars when push came to it. McMahon probably will, since it is his business.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 1) I have never heard of 'free tv' before - could someone explain this concept. 2) Anyone satisfied with paying $35 and getting an 'OK' show needs to re-evaluate their standards and their spending habits. 3) The WWF can die. The wrestling industry in 1996 and now are completely different as is the WWF in general. Wrestling is not cyclical.
Guest KoR Fungus Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 <<<And for all the fuckers saying Jeff fucked up, Rico and Jamal were pretty quick to get back to the ring after that 25ft swanton bomb onto the concrete. So Rico shouldn't have said shit and worked the match a little slower for Jeff!>>> Oh for God's sake, how crazy are the apologist arguments going to get? Jeff has been complete shit in the ring for months, blowing spots badly all over the place in damn near every match he's been in since the split. Jeff was never more than a mediocre worker, and now he's just careless and awful. I can't see how even the dumbest mark could deny that after what we've seen out of him the last few months.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Ooooooh, Survivor Series was shit. Such a radical argument there. The second post in this thread summed it up to a tee. I've seen much more wacky and ire-raising posts on American wrestling from hardcore purist fans in the past. This thread is a bit like a Kieslowski fan mocking Pearl Harbour for being shit - a bit pointless.
Guest Ram Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 So goes the quote "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Actually, I believe the correct quote is.. "Fool me once, shame on...................................shame on you....fool me - can't get fooled again."
Guest Dmann2000 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 I promise if I ever win Mega Millions (and its a big jackpot like 70-80 million) I will invest in a new promotion
Guest Dmann2000 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 and keep in mind I still watch the WWE
