Amazing Red

Recommended Posts

Guest ShooterJay

Amazing Red has quickly become my favorite independent wrestler. He does the flashiest, most innovative stuff I've ever seen. (The first time I saw the Code Red, my jaw literally fucking dropped.) He seems recently have become a much better overall wrestler in addition to the highflying, and could have a future when WWE needs to refill their "suicidal midget" quotient in a couple of years, or if NWATNA really takes off. The time I did meet him after an ROH show, he seemed like a nice, soft-spoken fellow.

The one thing I still can't believe is how this guy is still alive. He's four inches shorter and almost thirty pounds lighter than me, and he doesn't have a whole lot of muscle definition, which means he doesn't have a lot of cushion. With all the fucking nutso bumps he takes, I can't believe he's not crippled, let alone working a very full independent schedule.

Seriously, I have to get in touch with him, just to find out what his secret is to taking all those bumps and stiff strikes.

Red could replace Jeff Hardy on Raw :)

I could see him there with the mask, WWE could hype him up as a rival to Rey Misterio or as Hurricane's Super Hero friend from Mexico or Puerto Rico.

I saw him briefly on a BOTB1 tape, and was pretty impressed.

Ive also got hold of ROH 1, where he wrestles Jay Briscoe (may be mark, i forget now), so im looking forward to seeing that match as well.

It's Jay Brisco. Mark was still under 18 at the time of that event.

Best wishes,

Andy

I don't like Red and I'll tell you why.

Wrestlers like the SAT, Red, Divine Storm, Brian XL, and others like that hurt wrestling more then they help it.

I don't mind spot monkeys really...the guys who jump off everything, do 23 flips, and blow half their spots, I'm ok with that.

When when you see a match between these guys you see everyone get dropped on their head 50 times. And they kick out every single time, that takes away from any realism in the match.

Later in the show if you see a heavyweight get pinned by a brainbuster, so what....cause earler you say Red take 11 Vertabreakers and 3 powerbombs right on the top of his head.

These guys can still move a 100 mph, I like that...but when they do so many false finishes it really hurts the rest of the card.

It does indeed.

Red is all spot, spot, get beat no, no sell all the preceding work in the transistion, another spot.

There are always guy that can flip and twist more.

Red can hit a standing SSP.

So what?

There's an indy guy now that does a full standing phenoix splash. All pefrect, and getting all the phenoix splash.

And one that does a standing double corkscrew moonsault. (Standing Double Twist Yang Time)

Insane high spots rule, but you need to back it up with other stuff.

well he is still very young and has plenty of time to learn to work a good match, not just a spotfest.

I wouldn't come down on Red just yet. As TLFV just pointed out, the guy is still very young (19 IIRC) and has a long long way to go before he hits anywhere close to his wrestling prime. If you've seen Red's work today (which is good, but nothing great) compared to his work even a year - a year and 1/2 ago (overly spotty, makes his present work look downright grounded) you can seen he's improving quite a bit. He still has issues to work out including the aforementioned lack of selling as he transititions into offense but that'll come in time. Take a look at his match against Lynn and you can see that Red is working out a lot of his issues. With an experienced wrestler there to guide him through it, Red was able to put forth a great effort without it getting ridiculous like it tends to go when he's working with spot matchines like SAT or Brian XL.

Give the guy a break. He is only young. I will agree that guys like Red do seem to no sell head/neck bumps. Im a huge AJ Styles fan, but i have to agree that he tends to kick out of far to many two counts per match.

Do you think moving to WWE would damage Red. A lot of people say that they could see him moving there at a later point in his career, but they are likely to tone his act down a lot. Would that be such a bad thing? I think it all depends on how much they make him tone it down.

Normally I'd bitch about his lack of selling and psychology, but then I remember: This is American cruiser wrestling in the year 2002.

Red is tons of fuckin fun to watch. End o' story.

I find Amazing Red to be very exciting in the ring and one of the top flyers in the business right now. Most of his moveset is unique, and while he doesn't have much of a grasp on the psychology of the business, I see Red being a major player in the future because of the ability to get himself over. Much like RVD did when he first entered the WWF.

If Red did join the WWE, he would probably spend 6 months to a year in OVW learning how WWE Crusierweights are supposed to wrestle.

I think he has to learn to wrestle before he has to worry about how WWE cruisers wrestle.

Red has been working the exact same match for a year now...wonder how long till people start growing tired of it.

He's hurt himself going so fast so soon

I'm surprised YNA, considering you're such a Mikey mark, that you've come down so hard on his students, save Quiet Storm.

Which is funny, because of the little Quiet Storm work I've seen, nothing stands out as being overly good aside from his finish, the Storm Cradle Driver.

I know...I tried not to hate them for that reason alone, but they haven't improved one bit in the last year.

And I don't like Quiet Storm...so what if he does a roaring elbow and and diving headbutt...he's still a spot monkey otherwise. And these "The Next Benoit" comparisons make me sick

yeah, esp. since we know the next benoit is american dragon!!!!

as for red, there are two reds. #1 is capable of stringing together some beautiful aerial maneuvers and combos.

#2 is capable of making a decent match look shitty as he blows spots and nearly kills his opponents with his sloppy work.

well, i've seen both in ROH and it depresses me. the dude needs to slow it down a notch and just chill. also, i have seen red in nwa and he exhibits both of the above qualities mentioned. maybe in a couple of years he'll truly be phenomenal.

A lot of the great wrestlers starts Manami Toyota fast, then like her sacrificed the excessive speed for effectiveness, precision and better storytelling. Molly for example is going through this phase right now, that's why although she can be very fast, she currently moves a little faster than 1980's Harley Race.

Red is young, he will learn.

I saw Quiet Storm, Red and Devine wrestle a few days ago. All three of them are excessively sloppy, BUT all they need to do is take it down a notch. I don't see what the point is in moving so damn fast if it always causes them to miss sopts. Hell, judging by the tape I saw, Devine can't even hit a rana or a flying headsicssor without almost killing his opponent or himself. Those three, and many others, should just slow down a little. Not only to increase match quality, but also to prolong their careers. Brian XL on the other hand is lightening fast and in the match I saw yesterday he hit EVERYTHING. Expect a review of the show that I'm talking about sometime soon. I'll post a direct link in here once I get it up on the site.

I agree about Quiet Storm. They blow even the easiest of moves (dropkicks) and don't have the skills yet IMO. Red is a different story as he is very crisp in the ring and isn't a spot blowing machine. I do fear that he will hurt himself as the guy is skinner than I am and I don't see how he'll be able to keep bumping like that.
