Chunk 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 I downloaded and installed mIRC succesfully, but im having trouble using it. Once ive connected to a chat room, how do i find and download files? Can dowloads be resumed with mIRC? I tried asking the forums, but none of the people in any room i went to would help me (not even in the help rooms). They all seemed like ass holes to be honest. Can anyone here help me? ChUnK!
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 That's the EXACT question I've been asking for 3 years - how the hell do you download files once you're connected

Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Ok, here's how to download files off irc: 1) Connect to an irc server and join the channel you wish to download from. If you don't know what channel to go to, use the "/list" command to show all the channels on that server. If you know you want a specific type of file, like say a movie, you can type "/list movies" in the server window to return a list of all the channels with the word "movies in the name or channel description. 2) Join the channel ("/join #channelname" or double click on the channel name on the returned list) 3) There are several ways to download files from irc. First, you can just talk to people in the channel and see if they are interested in trading files with you. NOTE: Many channels do not allow trading and you will be banned for even so much as typing the word "trade"! Secondly, you can access someone's f-serve (file server). To do this, you must look at the ad display in the channel for the f-serve and find the trigger. To have all the f-serve ads appear at once, type "!list" (NOTE: Some channels do not allow this). Once you have found and typed the trigger, the f-serve window should open. Simply use DOS commands (cd, dir, get, etc.) to browse the directories and select the file(s) you wish to download. F-serves have a maximum amount of simultaneous sends allowed, so if there are people ahead of you, you must wait in the queue until their download is complete. Depending on the f-serve, you may only be able to queue a limited number of files. NOTE: For many f-serves, you must stay in the channel to keep your queues. To exit the file server, simply close the f-serve window. Thirdly, you can access an xdcc bot. To do this, you must look at the ad display in the channel for the xdcc ad. To have all the xdcc ads appear at once, type "!xdcc list" (NOTE: Some channels do not allow this). You may also message the xdcc bot directly for a list of the files on it by typing "/msg botname xdcc list" If the bot is serving any files, it will display a list of them in packet form. That is, each individual file is a different packet. To get a file from an xdcc bot, you must message it directly by typing "/msg botname xdcc send #packetnumber". For example, say the xdcc bot has four files, and you want the third one on the list, you would type "/msg botname xdcc send #3" Bots have a limited number of sends and queues like f-serves, but you are usually allowed only one file queued at a time. Once again, you will most likely have to stay in the channel to keep your queues. 4) mIRC can resume incomplete files. To set this, go to the options menu and go to DCC options and set it to resume existing files. You may also want to set it to automatically accept incoming files to prevent headaches caused by not being there when your f-serve or xdcc file is being sent. You can find anything on mIRC if you look hard enough: movies, tv shows, pictures, videos, applications, operating systems, games, wrestling ppvs, and even books. BTW, if you want to download wrestling, I suggest connecting to irc.zerolimit.net and joining #wrestling4free Hope this helped you guys out!
