Guest MrRant Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Wrestler Austin Gets Probation in Wife Beating By Jim Forsyth SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, one of the best-known American professional wrestlers, has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge he beat his wife, netting him a year-long probation and a fine. Bexar County Court-at-Law Judge Bill White on Monday ordered Austin, a Texas native whose real name is Steve Williams, to pay a $1,000 fine and to do 80 hours of community service. He must also attend a family violence counseling course. "It's been a chaotic few months. I'm not a regular in the court system, so I'm glad to get it behind me," Austin told reporters after the hearing. "This has been a drag" Austin, 36, was charged with misdemeanor spousal battery after striking his wife, Debra Williams, on the head, back and legs in June at their upscale home in San Antonio. The former World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. star has not appeared on WWE shows since a dispute just days before the incident with his wife. WWE spokesman Gary Davis said Austin was suspended after failing to appear at two performances. The wrestler stood in court in a trim black suit and white shirt, his trademark shaved head bowed as White read the charges against him. Defense attorney Van Hilley entered the plea for his client, who could have faced up to a year in jail. Assistant Bexar County District Attorney Scott Simpson said Austin's deal is similar to those given other first-time offenders. "We feel very good about the plea. He took responsibility for what he did," Simpson said. If Austin fulfills the terms of his probation, no guilty plea will be entered in his record. He is prohibited from drinking alcohol, must not behave aggressively toward his wife and must ask the court for permission to leave Bexar County. The wrestler said he and his wife, a 42-year-old former beauty queen who is affiliated with the WWE, are working on a reconciliation. Austin said he is focusing on resurrecting his career. "I made my first personal appearance recently in Richmond, Virginia and there were five thousand people there, so I feel I still have a lot of drawing power," Austin said. Guest Kinetic Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 There's been A LOT of Austin talk lately. I'm calling no later than February for a return. Just enough time to set up a program for WrestleMania.
Guest Brian Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 If the RAW ratings continue to fall, he'll be back within a month of the anniversary.
Guest Celtic Jobber Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 The sooner he's back, the better.
Guest geniusMoment Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Damn he is only 36, I thought he was around 39 or 40. That means he is as old as Flair was in 1985, and younger than Bret when the Hitman won the world title at wrestlemania 10.
Secret Agent Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Austin needs to be the surprise entrance for the Rumble. Just imagine... 5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1.... ::Glass Shatters:: I would shit my pants, I kid you not. Austin is the only thing raw has going for itself, and he isn't even on there.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Maybe he should return on the RAW anniversary show. I can see it now.....plenty of stunners abound and he announces his entry into the rumble. Of course the reality would be him stunning everyone just for HHH to single-handedly lay him out and talk about how Austin ran away because he was scared of him. *sigh*
Guest buffybeast Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I would say he will return around the Royal Rumble ppv. I don't think the WWE/F will bring him back any sooner than that. Remember Vince is still bitter, or at least that is what I've read.

Guest buffybeast Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I think the anniversary show is January 13th. I'm not sure of the RR date.
Guest Black Tiger Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I hope that the court won't let him leave the county to continue wrestling. Anyone who beats on their wife and/or children ought to be locked up. I respect his choice to be a man and come forward but a fine and community service? What's he going to do? Lecture at high schools about the danger of drinking? If he can't drink then what's he supposed to do in place of Steve Wisers?
Guest Cataclysm911 Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I just want Austin to come back. He should've never married Debra anyway. Especially after she got Mongo dicking. Fuck all that noise.
Guest geniusMoment Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 No the anniversary is going to be tues. jan. 14. It will not take the place of raw that week, instead they will run raw on monday and have the anniversary special of tues.
