Anyone know how cheaply i can get one?

Basically, i want one for the road..would be nice to have a DVD-ROM so it could play my DVDs and VCDs..want to play games on it too, as well as my concert .mpeg files and mp3s. A modem would be nice as well, since i don't think i could network my laptop to my cable connection when at home. Any help and advice is appreciated.

If you live near a Best Buy, this Friday & Saturday only:

Toshiba Notebook

14" display

Intel Celeron 1.5GHZ Processor

20 gig hard drive

10/100 Network Card

DVD-ROM Drive

256MB SDRAM memory

$649.99 after rebates

Also, If you're in the market for a new desktop, Wal-Mart has a 2.0 GHZ Celeron w/monitor for $399 after rebates, Friday morning only

I got the Thursday paper inserts 2 days ago, so I'm prepared for shopping :)

If it has a network card will it work in a network or if i buy another cable modem? I would buy this laptop ASAP

actually i would reccomend getting an ECS desknote, its a combonation between and desktop and a notebook, hence the name desknote.

they are cheap and you can customize them at this site:

-this one is for AMD Athlon XP with a 14" screen

-this one is p4 with a 14" screen

-this one is p4 with a 15" screen

I picked this site because they assemble and test it for you

DETAILS:

a decent computer from them would be about $1,100, also keep in mind that the computer has an external floppy drive which you have to purchase from http://www.pricewatch.com/ and search for "ecs external floppy drive" and they range from $35-50.

this best laptop from them would be about $1,800, and that is as fast as the fastest desktop.

hope this helps, if you already have an operating system you can easily get an ultra fast notebook from them for about $1,000

you'd just plug the cord going from the back of your current cable modem into the laptop's port as opposed to your computer's port (I'm assuming your cable modem is external)

Anytime.

Just so you know, the rebates for it are as follows:

Instant:

$1099.99 - $100 Instant Celeron Rebate = $999.99

Mail-In:

$999.99 - $150 Best Buy Mail-In Rebate - $200 Toshiba mail-In Rebate =

$649.99

Make sure one of those rebates isn't for signing up with MSN for two years. Places like Best Buy love to throw that one in there to get the price down, then bend you over with it when you get to the store.

Does anyone know about importing Laptops to the UK from america?

I was looking to get a laptop for college, but after seeing the prices you guys pay in comparison to proces over here, it got me wondering about importing. If i could get someone to deliver it, how compatible would it be over here? Would I be able to use it, plug it in to charge up and buy/use the bateries over here? Would UK software run on it?

thanks for any help.

If you imported a laptop, the only problem I can think of is that if it had a DVD-ROM it would only be able to play Region 1 (US and Canada) DVD movies on it, although there are many free programs out there that can defeat the region-lock and allow you to play PAL (European) DVD's.

You might also have to pay duty on it, but I don't know the current international rates.

I think you'd have to buy some kind of power adapter, too, since the UK uses different voltages in their outlets than the US. It's also possible you could order a laptop with US standards, since you'll be going there anyway.

All this has got me thinking, and im definetly going to put ordering my laptop on hold. Does anyone else have experience with doing this? Or know any sites I could go to to check out the power supply thing?
