Grabing the ropes to help with a submission

Putting your feet on the ropes to help with a pin

Another thing that wrestlers do that I hate. Is when a wrestler pulls up his pants after being hit with a big move. Hello he's supposed to be hurt, but he's sitting there tugging on his tights.

The one thing that I hate and I see it so often is grabbing the ropes for "leverage". It never looks like it helps out when a wrestler does it, the only time it looks like it could be useful is the abdominal stretch, but most people just grabs the ropes and make no effort to look like he's pulling himself back further from the origianl position he was in.

Another silly thing to do is punches. Unless you are Lennox Lewis or have decent boxing or karate skills, you should not be punching. Those who are predominately wrestlers, SHOULD NOT BE PUNCHING AT ALL, especially when they can slap a bone-breaking armbar just as quick. That goes for you divas too. Brock Lesnar looks so cool because he doesn't punch at all.

The boycott ended after Survivor Series. Now I just curse the Big Show when he's on TV and turn it off for his and Brock's segments.

It's a fair point about the entrances thing, but it's not the wrestlers' fault. It's just another example of the wwe's absolute disregard for ANY manner of subtlety, which hurts their product the most. (see wweshopzone.com for more details)

Another thing I never get but we're supposed to accept within the relms of wrestling make-believe is when wrestlers come out for a suprise appearence, or such, and their music and titantron plays. Even when I was a mark, I tried rationalizing it (I figured maybe that had a tech guy sitting right behind the entrance with a switchboard of all the entrace music who would be able to cue the music whenever he sees someone about to run out to the ring. Think about it.

i remember watching the Raw is War when DX parodied the Nation in 1998, and there was some kind of problem cuz i could hear the guys running the show all the time....

 

like when Jason Sensation was talking like Owen the guys couldn't stop laughing ..

 

or when Austin appeared by surprise interrupring a Vince promo u coul hear them counting

''10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,stone cold"::Glass shatters::

 

it was fun to know what was going to happen, never happened again

 

and i seem to remember ar King of the Ring this year during the Brock-Test match, someone was whiped into a corner but he just stoped in mid-run...wow

I always find it a little funny when wrestlers argue on microphones...specifically when there's like 3 or 4 guys in the ring and they all have to share a mic. The funniest one I can remember was on a Raw back in late 96 when Sid interrupted a Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels face to face interview. Shawn tosses Sid the mic, Sid says "THANK YOU, MY MAN!", then cuts on both of them. It's NOT really a problem, but the idea of people who supposedly wanna kill each other sharing and taking turns is kinda silly.

When I saw the topic I was thinking of Noble standing up to Steiner. Because he ought to know better: this is the WWE and they love to make the smaller guys look bad at the expense of the heavies all the time.

I'm reserving judgement on the angle itself, but this actually was perfectly in line with the angle they have Noble in right now. He's a redneck hick who made it big because he had the CW title, he lost the title so to stay in the big-time, he's got to bring in the uber-dangerous wacky cousin Stinky; just before Steiner walked in, Nidia had just talked Noble out of bringing Stinky in because he's too dangerous. Now, since he was totally disrespected by Steiner and got his ass handed to him, he's going to need to bring Stinky in.

 

Have to see where this angle goes, but as far as the ass whoopin, it worked with the angle.

I've always found that funny too, especially in the case when it's a wrestler making a surprise appearance because he wasn't even supposed to be in the building. Oh well, they've got to do something to make sure those CD's get sold, don't miss any opportunity to plug the music even if it further kills any remnants of kayfabe.

 

 

 

The only reasoning I can think of for going through the entire dance routine before making your way to the ring is just to show total disrespect to your opponent and/or really build up the heel's fear of the ass-whoopin that's coming. It makes sense when it's a calm interuption, but does look really stupid when it's a really pissed off guy who wants to kill the heel.

Yeah or on the RAW where Foley won the title. Everyone's fighting around the ring and the glass shatters and here comes Austin running in "behind the ref's back" with music blaring.

Microphone tossing is silly. That's why they now resort to microphone snatching, which comes from underground hip-hop contests where the contesting rappers grab the mic from each other before they start their raps.

You know what really annoys me? When wrestlers are participating in a non-interview backstage segment, you can hear them fine, right? How come they need a microphone when doing an interview backstage then? To furhter see how illogical this really is, consider this: when a wrestler is giving an interview with a mic and then has to talk to someone in the same segment without a mic(for example when Rey was giving an interview and then left to ask Brock how his ribs were feeling on the Smackdown after SS), how come the loudness and clarity of their voice is the same? Why do they need a microphone at all?

Just rushing out there and kicking ass may be fun, but in time loses its luster, so maybe part of the reason to make the intended victim sweat. Even give him/her a chance to restract his/her statements before leveling the person with your finishing move of choice.

 

Sure, we're seen Vince stunned a million times, but the time where Austin scared him into whizzing all over his precious suit seemed to be more satisfying.

I was going to say that, but the Brock dance is more like some boxing pre-match "lets loosen up a bit" routine and not an approrpiate thing to do during an intense segment. When Austin would do his turnbuckle poses he'd flip off the guy waiting for him which was part of that fun.

 

Now, I don't think any WWF run-in/save, even if the music was played was ever taken up by "the routine" ala the Sandman example, usually its just in the promos.

 

I liken it to prolonging the inevitable. Especially faces getting ready to answer a heel, where you know what they're gonna say and do, its just they want to make it slow and painfull for the guy they are about to stomp a mudhole in.

 

Also it'd be great if they wrote in where the heel attacks the face while he's doing the dopy routine, and I think that has happened every now and then. You can't really do that with that dopey dance
