I've moved a lot, so I often think about this as it relates to my long-distance friends who I speak to every few months. If one of them was to die, I'd have no clue. That's why I go to great lengths to call the morgues in their respective areas and ask a lot of invasive questions. I believe the gravedigging also has something to do with that. I'm usually not awake when it happens, though.

Make sure you ask for distinguishing marks on any of the recently brought in corpses. You never know how handy it is to know that someone had a cigarette burn on his scrotum then when it comes to a time like that.

Seriously, though. If someone came on the board, under the guise as one of our friends or family members, how many people would actually believe that that person actually died? Unless it was in some sort of accident, and they had a link to a newspaper article spelling it out exactly (and even in that case, it would have to be someone who has given their real name out on the board before), it would be hard to take everything they're saying at face value.

...and why do people have trouble putting the initials of my SN? Flyboy using AoA, someone in the Music Folder called me AoB.. Not like it's a travesty or anything, but A and B are nowhere near the O on a keyboard. I just think it's weird. Is my name an optical illusion, or possibly disorienting? That would rule.
