Brilliant but Cancelled

For anyone in Canada Undergrads, Mission Hill, The Oblongs, and Quads are all on Teletoon Unleashed everynight. They play the same episodes over and over but I still love em.

I forgot about Norm, I loved that show too. Poor Norm MacDonald... I loved that guy, where is he now?

Undergrad airs in the states on Comedy Central sometime around midnight. I really miss Salute Your Shorts. That show always managed to make me laugh.

I dunno where Norm is now, but he was considered to be the best guest on Dennis Miller Live since it's inception until the dawn of the new millenium...

It's reasons like this that I hate Fox...

"So here's this awesome Family Guy show! On Wednesdays! I mean, Tuesdays! But now it's on Thursdays!"

"So, the ratings for this show are dropping..."

"CANCEL IT!"

They shuffle everything around, I forget when it's on, and I never see it. I didn't know half these were even cancelled.

And I DEMAND MORE UNDERGRADS!

Both Undergrads and The Critic were strokes of genius.

...However, one show that I *haven't* seen mentioned, is our weekly dose of family bloodshed: Celebrity Deathmatch. Sure, the quality of the show deteriorated into below-average at times during the last 1-2 seasons [i think that I stopped watching the last season after the premiere, and then after 9/11, when I was getting back into it, it was taken off of the air because of it's violence,] but the first few seasons were brilliant, with loads of references to movies and the like, and fresh and innovative humor. Too bad it went off the air, really... I truly marked out for that show more than any other. DeNiro vs. Pacino, Stone vs. Scorcese, or Tarentino vs. Lee anyone? Yeah, I thought so.

...Oh, and Futurama is coming to Adult Swim? I'm fucking there.

I miss Sledge Hammer. Does anyone else remember that show?

Hell yes I remember Sledge Hammer! Absolutely hilarious takeoff on cop shows. David Rasche was brilliant deadpanning everything, no matter how convoluted everything got.

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing." *BOOM!* (big ass .44 goes off)

Has anybody mentioned the War of the Worlds series? I liked that show a lot. I wish it'd come on in re-runs somewhere so I can complete my collection but it looks like it's been too long at this point.

Man, there have been a ton (some of these have been said, but this is just all the shows I liked that have been cut short)

The Job

Mission Hill

Undergrads

Clerks: The Animated TV Show

Greg The Bunny

The Tick (live action)

The Family Guy

Norm

Spawn The Cartoon (I don't know how long it lasted, but it was pimp)

There are a ton more, I just can think of them now

- Rocko's Modern Life (it was ahead of its time)

Sweet mother of mercy, I forgot about this gem. It was way ahead of it's time, it was better than most of the new cartoons out now.

I'm almost positive is was on for three seasons, and that's it. I've got the seasons on DVD. Things could have really picked up after season 3, but HBO cancelled it, I think.

It amazes me the HBO, which puts on great quality entertainment all the time, will let something like Spawn go after 3 years but keep pieces of crap like fucking Arli$$ on for, what, like 7 years?? Give me a break. And you can add Mind of the Married Man to that if that show is on much longer.

Drives me insane.

I worshipped Sledge Hammer as a kid. That's the type of show that was cancelled because nobody got it. I remember the "Vertigo" parody and not getting it until years later when I finally saw the movie and the first I thought was "dude, this is just like that Sledge Hammer episode."

I thought the Clerks cartoon was awful. Granted I only caught two episodes because of the way ABC dicked it around but I thought the animation was flat and the humor too slap dash. Judge Judge Reinhold, yeah, that's genius.

The Critic and Rocko's Modern Life never EVER deserved to be cancelled.

Another Critic moment:

An earthquake occurs in Hollywood. The Hollywood sign starts shaking and the H in Hollywood falls off. A man opens his door to his house.

What the H?!!

The H crushes his house.

That quote had me rolling on the floor laughing because it was so unexpected. And the delivery was brillant.

Oh, how I miss The Critic.

I thought so too, but people have said that you need to see all the episodes in order to fully appreciate it (I only saw one episode and gave up on it right away).

As for other shows that only lasted one season, I really liked Grosse Pointe.

Brilliant but Cancelled features shows that were on for two seasons or less. So you Celebrity Death Match is eliminated since it lasted three seasons at least.

Oh and by the way for all the people on this board that get Trio. Have any of you seen the special The Greatest Shows You've Never Seen? All it is is clips of unsold pilots that were WAYY WAY TOO FAR FETCHED for the most part. Like the unsold Sci Fi pilot that featured an evil sorceress that controlled the 4th dimension and one of her henchmen(well not really a man) was Godzilla and Godzilla actually had a speaking part. Weird. Another one they showed was an unsold pilot about a TV show that revolved around a mini-mall.....and it was a musical. *shudders* If I ever hear another song about making donuts again! I swear!

Damnit i so wish there was a studio head that was insane enough to actually buy episodes of those shows.

I'd watch those every week.

I wanna see Men of the Dragon. That show looked bad ass. haha Quite a few of those shows looked really good but the majority was pretty much retarded. Oh, Samurai was funny as hell too. Dude from Jake and the Fatman dressed like a ninja, but calling himself a samurai, using a sword to do everything BUT harm people and he screamed everytime he did something like push a elevator button with his sword.

There was also a show on that special called Exo-Man that had a wayy wayy way far fetched plot. A scientist gets attacked by a random thug with a lead pipe for no reason leaving the scientist paralyzed. Anyway the scienctists creates a retarted ass suit so he can fight crime! The suit basically looks like a Godzilla villain if a third grade class did an adaption of one of the Godzilla movies. But no Exo-Man doesn't even touch the criminals but just the site of them makes the criminals lose track of what they're doing and getting killed. Ahh Exo-Man the world's laziest paralyzed crime fighter

Undeclared

The Critic

Twin Peaks (old school but still awesome)

Beavis & Butthead (damn you, King of the Hill ... damn you ... although that show is great too)

The Clerks cartoon was okay but most of the jokes fell flat, IMO

I'm glad NBC is putting stock into Scrubs; a few months ago, I thought it would be joining the ranks of these other shows.

Farscape, of course.

I did NOT like Sports Night at all. In fact, the only thing about that show that made me laugh didn't come from it - it actually came from a line from the often-mentioned (in this thread!) "Family Guy". "I finally figured out 'Sports Night!' That show's just too good to be funny!"

One of my faves was the show "Cupid" starring Jeremy Piven & Paula Marshall. Maybe you remember it, maybe not. It was about a man (Piven), who thought he was Cupid (and may or may not have actually been the god), and was sent to Earth as punishment from Zeus. He had to hook up 100 couples in order to make penance. Paula Marshall played his shrink / friend. It was a GREAT show. Very funny, but also very dramatic. You could go through the whole range of emotions with the show - from humor to sadness and back again. It got stuck in a bad time slot - Saturday nights at 10 p.m. - then moved to a WORSE time-slot (Thursday nights, at either 9 or 10 p.m.....so it was up against either Seinfeld / Fraser or E.R., I forget which). It got canceled about mid-season. Which was a real shame, cause the show was critically acclaimed and could have been a winner if only given the chance.

Canadian Chris: I worship the first season of the John Larroquette Show. It is without a doubt one of the best and most overlooked seasons of a show ever. Of course, they flushed it down the drain with the next season and a half. I think the network or the producers got cold feet and pulled way back on the reigns. A shame, the writing and acting were genius to start.

Cupid was an awesome show. I remember that it used to come on right before Vengeance Unlimited, which was cancelled at the same time as Cupid. Two great shows cut down in midseason, and Night Man lasted for three years. No justice.

Yeah, I loved Cupid too. It got a lot of buzz among critics and internet people, but those awful timeslots killed it. I'm pretty annoyed that it didn't even last for a full season. Paula Marshall (as much as I like her) is kind of a kiss of death for TV shows though. Cupid - cancelled after a few episodes. Snoops - ditto (though it sucked, despite the eye candy). Sports Night - cancelled soon after her 3-episode stint as a porn star. Damn you Paula!!
