EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2002 In the interest of fairness...I've heard *channels Mike Epps* PIMPIN SINCE BEEN PIMPIN SINCE BEEN PIMPIN SINCE BEEN PIMPIN! about this PPV, mainly because Eddy/Ohtani was the AWESOME INTERPROMOTIONAL BISCUITS, TENDER COMRADES (DEAN), but what about the rest? I know there is a Triangle Match, and that Luger actually BROUGHT IT that night...but what about the rest of it? Any good???
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted December 10, 2002 The World Cup idea was similar to the tournament at Starrcade '89. Neither one really worked, because the fans couldn't get behind the thrown together matches and their was conscious effort to save heat on everybody and have strategic scoring. The Ohtani vs. Eddy match was awesome and Benoit vs. Liger was a nice little opener, but the rest of the tourney matches were mediocre at best and the storyline never really wound up going anywhere. Now, the Luger/Sting/Flair triple threat match is an unknown classic and, oddly enough, on the strength of Lex Luger's performance. He played a heel when in against Sting and a face against Flair. It totally worked and the fans were totally into it. Just the near ten years of history all these guys had with each other came into play and it really added to the wrestling. Flair then goes on to beat Savage for he World Title and that's nowhere near their Wrestlemania 8 match. I'd say find the triple threat and Eddy/Ohtani elsewhere if you can and skip the show as a whole.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Benoit vs Lyger is sweetness, always nice to see Lyger in America AND managing to get semi-over too. Ohtani brings the ~DICKISHNESS~ to his match with Eddy, and it's strange to see Eddy portrying the young, fresh-faced technico yet also cool. Flair vs Savage is good as well and the antics involving the horsemen postmatch are quite swanktastic as well. BUT......... The whole fuckin' PPV is worth is for The Dweem and The Brain's verbal dueling on commentary. They go through a segment involving the confusion of "Ohtani" and "Martini" that will have you in stitches.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted December 10, 2002 All around great show for sure, but the crowd was less than excited about it all up until the last few matches. In that Savage-Flair match, what made that interesting was that for some reason, Savage bladed Flair (?) and pretty blatantly, but anyway Flair came out of it just bleeding buckets within seconds. An obvious lesson learned there, don't let someone else, much less a guy like Savage, cut you with a blade! This was the first blood WCW had in years too, was a big deal at the time. Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 10, 2002 the rest of the card of Starrcade 95: Benoit vs Lyger Alex Wright vs Koji Kanemoto Luger vs Masahiro Chono Johnny b Bad vs Mr Saito Eddy vs Ohtani Savage vs Tenzan Sting vs Kensuki Sasaki
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Starrcade 95 KICKS ASS!!! The triangle match is great, Savage does a mega blade job to Flair and Ohtani v. Eddy and Benoit v. Liger both kick ass. And Dusty's commentary that night is hilarious. Especially the 'cable ace' rant
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Definetely a forgotten PPV. Eddy/Ohtani is ****1/2 and by the end of it Ohtani is more over than half the WCW guys because he is such a dickhead. Flair/Sting/Luger is 3 matches in one basically, with Luger putting on one of his very best performances. Flair/Savage as a match isn't great(they had both already wrestled oncE) but the Horsemen antics and blood make it worth while. And Schiavone doesn't embarass himself on commentary. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted December 11, 2002 How was Kanemoto vs. Wright? at this point in time Kanemoto was considered one of the best workers in NJPW even though he was only about five years pro. Was that match for Kanemoto's IWGP Jr. title?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 11, 2002 The match was never mentioned as being for a certain title. It was a pretty good match
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I don't give a shit about the topic at hand, I just wanted to say that EL DANDY~! = Temporary Board GAWD for using the "Pimpin' since been pimpin'" line.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 13, 2002 I watched this show again yesterday and it was pretty damn good I thought. Only the Chono/Luger match sucked. Dusty and Heenan were absolutely hilarious on commentary, and even Tony did an all right job that night keeping the peace between the Dream and the Brain. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Oh god, the commentary in the Eddy/Ohtani match is insane. "You'd pull out a pair of brass knux, or a bottle of soda pop, and hit me in the head with it cause you's a snake in the grass manager like you always been, and that's why they see it fit to take you offa Saturday night, and put me in that position, for which I'll be receiving an ace at the cable awards. Thank you." And he confuses Ohtani with "Hot Toddy." The triangle match was good, too. I don't remember the benoit/lyger match too well, even though it seems like I should. Everything else on the show sucked donkeys.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 14, 2002 The Benoit/Liger match was pretty good. Not as good as I would ave expected but still ***. I thought even the Alex Wright match wasn't too bad and Kanemoto (?) got a pretty decent match out of him.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 15, 2002 It's probably one of those deals where I'll go to watch it again, and I'll enjoy it, but I'll like their other matches a thousand times better.
