Anyone remember Cyber-Akuma from Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter? HE FUCKIN SUCKED! I remember being in the arcade, and about ten people were around me, awe-stricken that I had gotten that far, and then BOOM! I got him half-way down his second life bar and he fuckin beat me with one of his supers. I swear...I never forgive that game.

I have about a 50% success rate against Cyber-Akuma.

If I'm playing as any combo of the uppercut bros., I stand a reasonable chance.

Anyone else and I get owned.

At least he was reasonable. Apocalypse was a joke and Onslaught was a fucking bitch. I've only beaten him once, as Shadow Lady and Chun-Li.

Its amazing how much Capcom have pussied down the CPU shin akuma in CvsS2 when you compare it to other games.

Heh maybe I'm just a bad player, but I still found Shin Akuma and Ultimate Rugal to be pretty hard. Not Pyron level hard, but still a worthy final boss.

Who do you play as?

Ultimate Rugal is the easier boss on the hardest setting, as long as you can time his teleport and block the kaiser wave. Block the destroyer cutter and super his ass on the way down (the power gyser works well.) As long as you dont stand there you can easily avoid his super press with almost any attack, leaving Rugal pretty prone to attack.

Shin Akuma is the harder boss since he's so damn fast and can string a higher amount of combos. Your only very screwed if your guy has a lagging projectile since he will hadoken you before you move can connect.

Against the bosses I usually just use Sagat (4) because everyone else seems to be completely ineffective. Sagat's range seems to work well against them, and they both seem to be pretty vulnerable to just normal jump kicks. The problem is that once they get their offense going, it always feels like I'm too slow to do much of anything. I'll try to tiger uppercut to pry them off, or to roll through them and throw, but more often than not they just unload on me while I just kind of choke and stand around doing nothing. Part of my problem is that I'm not familiar enough with the game or with their movesets to know what I should be doing when they go on offense.

For some reason, I can't beat MvC2's Shin Akuma with the uppercut brothers, but I just beat him with a Level 2 Rock Howard by simply jump kicking and doing that one dashing two hit special move he has repeatedly for the cheapest victory of my life.

The two bosses are pretty hard in CvS2, but Rugal is MUCH easier. He doesn't have the hurricane kick into uppercut that akuma has. My best successes have been to use jumping roundhouses a LOT, and whenever they jump just always do a light dragon punch. Don't go for throws, don't let them throw...

And which Groove they choose can be key. if they (for some strange reason) chose A-groove, then they CAN'T do Lvl 3 supers. If they choose the rage groove, then they can get them off a lot.

And for chrissakes, get your supers off. If you don't get them with a shoryureppa, then you can't expect to beat them, for they will out damage you conventionally.

I always struggle against Deus in Xenogears, Wiegraf/Velius in Final Fantasy Tactics and the final battle against Gafgarion from Tactics.

Oh, and Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII. My little sister had to beat that game for me.

Embarassing that I can beat the harder bosses, but I have trouble with these not so difficult ones.

Wow. OK. That Gafgarion battle DID suck (battle 20 or 21). But you thought Ultimecia was HARD? *channels Keith Olbermann* LIONHEART, HELLO! I did that three times, and she was DONE! Aura, Aura, Aura, meltdown, meltdown, meltdown, curaga curaga curaga, GOOD NIGHT EVERYBODY!!!

Yeah Galgarion was also a nasty bitch. He was tough and had about 2x your numbers.

Ultimecia CAN be a bitch if you don't have any invincible items. Quasar Pulsar will probably waste you if you don't.

By proxy, what are the hardest GAMES ever? I'm thinking 2 NES games. Cybernoid and Bayou FUCKING Billy. Games like Castlevania and the original Double Dragon were great because they were very challenging, but you could progressively get better. With Cybernoid, I could barely get past the 1st level, and BB had the toughest enemies ever.

Also The Wizards and Warrior games I played had the worst controls ever, so put them up.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts was annoyingly hard. Got the point where I just wouldn't bother with the game.

I think the reason a lot of bosses were harder back then is because in most current games, the weapons you get awarded with are just so DAMAGING that they take out bosses to easily. There are SO MANY options of this or that. I remember in the old days, the best weapon KNOWN TO MAN was "spread" in contra, and ONE KILL and you were back to a shitty pellet gun for the rest of the level......oh I remember Mega Man 3....nothing would work against the Evil Doctor in the end, so finally I was so frustrated that I used "Top Spin Man" for the first time EVER....and I just did two spins by his face and it killed him INSTANTLY...I don't know if that was a "secret" or if I was supposed to pick up on something that made him vunerable to the Top Spin, but I was simply amazed.

LOL top spin was the worst weapon EVAR.

It's true that weapons are getting out of hand. I remember a time when no matter how strong you were in a final fantasy, you couldn't do half the bosses' life in one hit, period. These days are over...

Well, British Isles residents such as myself got the International version of FFX...complete with the most heinously bad-ass bosses of all - the Dark Aeons. Evil versions of every Aeon in the game and absolutely insanely tough. Apparently you need to completely max out stats before taking them on. I once accidentally wandered into the Dark Magus Sisters...Dear God it was ugly. Instant Passado(which from them causes Death) and then instant Overdrive, with full hits every shot. I was beaten like a bitch. I've read that once you take all of them out you get to fight a sucker called Penance who has full stats in everything and whom no-one I've ever heard of has beaten without using Yojimbo's Zanmato at crazed prices.

Yeah, I just rocked Sin's ass with one Overdrive shot from Anima for a whopping 99,999 HP in FFX. That's just not cool.

Well, sure it is. Anima and the Magus Sisters are hard to get, and Square doesn't want to force players to do anything particularly hard in order to beat the main game. And that's fine, because it means that all the non-hardcore players still get the satisfaction of seeing what happens in the end, and they're entitled to that after all the time they put in. And for the hardcore players, there's still the unbelievably hard custom monsters to mess around with. Easy final boss plus superhard weapons is the best for everyone.

Yep, that was exactly my reaction when I heard about it. Lance Bass is Sephiroth and Mandy Moore is Aeris. Yay for pop.

Edit: Sigh wrong Lance.

Oh dear lord...

At least Steve Burton and David Boreanaz were good as Cloud and Squall.

But Lance Bass? I havent heard Sepiroth talk during battles besides the grunting but I have a bad bad feeling.

NES World Championship Wrestling game. The final boss, don't remember his name but he was basically Vader. I must have fought him 50+ times before I finally beat him once. It sucked because you couldn't save your progress so you had to go through the entire tournament and then fight him in the end.

Good lord Platinum Battle (ok, Sephiroth) is a bitch and a half. First time I beat Hercules and it opened up I knew who it was but I said to myself, "Self, he can't be THAT hard!" So I put in Platinummatch, heard the cool music and saw him float down and I thought "Pretty cool". Then it was Wham, Bam, Seeya biyotch! He killed me in about 10 seconds (I was only about level 30 or so, didn't have the super flight or anything like that). So, I beat the game and figured that now I could do some damage. So I went back to the saved game and gave it a shot. After FINALLY getting his damn health bar to move I knocked off his first bar and what do I hear?

SIN HARVEST!!

Yup next thing I know I'm desperately floating away and trying to get to my megalixirs. Long story short I got 2 1/2 bars into him, got to close on a sin harvest (tried to break it up and missed my swing) and got nailed. That guy is about as difficult a "boss" I've ever seen.

Ruby Weapon in FFVII seems to be insanely tough, but you can trick him. Go into the battle with two dead party members. This way he won't kick them out of the way like he usually does. Then revive them with Phoenix and you're set. You still need very powerful characters, but it won't be nearly as hard that way.

The Marionette from Shining Force

Cactus Jack, Hardcore title road, No Mercy.

I will second, third, fourth, AND fifth that. You should also add fighting Steve Austin on Expert level.
