The biggest logic gap in wrestling

Recommended Posts

Guest Redhawk

We've all seen it before:

The McMahon-Helmsley regime opens up the show with an interview, bragging about how Triple H is gonna kick The Rock's ass at the next PPV. The Rock interrupts, calls Vince an asshole and Stephanie a ho, and so Vince puts Rock in a submissions match with Chris Benoit IN THIS VERY RING, TONIGHT...

Kurt Angle comes across Rey Mysterio backstage. Mysterio calls Kurt a dork, Angle calls Rey a child, and eventually Rey challenges Kurt for a match IN THIS VERY RING, TONIGHT...

So here's my question: What were the matches going to be GOING INTO the show? Think about it: If Rock hadn't pissed Vince off in the opening segment, what was the main event going to be? If Angle hadn't been challenged by Rey, what was he going to do that night?

Usually the match directly before a RAW or SD main event is a filller/random tag/cruiser match. So was the Hurricane vs. Jamie Noble the pre-planned main event and it got pushed down to second-to-last? Or was there some main event that we never knew of that got scrapped? Because if there was, who was it between? Almost every major player on the roster has been in a match already. Was their pre-planned main event scrapped and then they were given 1st-hour matches against each other?

And if, say, Kurt had no idea he would be in a match before he ran into Rey, why was he wearing his wrestling tights? Why do guys like Hardcore Holly and Faarooq even show up if they know they have no matches? Or were they supposed to be in the matches that got scrapped because Rock pissed Vince off and Rey challenged Angle?

Has anyone got the answer to these questions?

I think this just part of the whole 'suspension of disbelief thing'.

Where two wrestlers agree to face each other and no one offiically makes the match we're supposed to assume that Bischoff or Stephanie backstage did it.

Basically its one of those things you're not supposed to think about too hard

I always wondered about the people that 'arrived' at the show while it was already in progress. Where else did they have to be that they couldn't be at the event earlier? And what would happen if traffic was heavy?

Why are there cameras everywhere and why do wrestlers not know there's a camera on them?

Or how backstage interviews with Coach or whoever are done with mics, but any random backstage segment is clearly audible without any.

Or there's a reporter waiting in the parking lot for a guy, and the announcers go to him *just before* the person he is waiting for drives into the arena.

And that guy who always gets shoved aside when a heel wants to use his chair... why does he always look so surprised when it happens? Get out of the way, already!

This was mentioned by someone else: Wrestlers using mics to communicate in the ring during a promo, when it's entirely unnecessary. You're 5 feet away from one another!

Or the when there music hits. Is there a guy sitting back there with a bunch of buttons hooked up to music? I mean what happens if he messes up!?

*guy is watching Eddie/Angle on monitor*

"There goes Brock running! Must be heading to the ring! Better hit his music!"

*Brock's music hits*

"Another good job by me!"

*brock walks back by holding a sandwich*

"AH! The last meatball sub! Good thing I ran over there before anyone noticed!"

"D'OH!"

What if one time, the guy was sitting on a stool? I can just see HHH shoving him off, grabbing the stool, and then looking at it like, "What the fuck is THIS? I want a chair!"

Also, go back to this Monday: Why did Coach interview Booker and Goldie RIGHT AFTER their match? How often does that ever happen?

One more: Back during the Commissioner Regal era: Was there a specific office with just the right kind of desk, and Regal hauled all of his shit from city-to-city? Why would you hang up pictures and put books there when you're only gonna be there for a few hours? Or was it like the APA Office Mystery, where it moved itself.

Goodear, that one somewhat makes sense...

During the commercial breaks and dark matches, you often see ref's sweep the ring and stuff like that...where would the garbage (table shards & crap) go? The can conveniently placed under the ring of course.

Wrestling in general is free of logic.

Why should two guys who don't have any beef whatsoever have to go out in front of a crowd and wrassle'?

Why do it in front of a crowd at all?

What's the meaning of life?

Are we alone in the universe?

Women...you know what I mean?

See? Just too much to think about.

While they aren't always dressed to compete in the back, guys like Angle figure "hey, I'm an important guy...so i'm sure I'll be on the show. Might as well be ready".

Guys like Holly and Simmons probably think to themselves "Well, gee golly, if that Edge guy gets hurt...maybe one of us could sub in for him!"

It's usually the main event guys who arrive late....so they think to themselves "fuck it, why should I be there the whole time, might as well take in the sights". They always make sure not to travel too far away, just incase of traffic :)

Cameras are everywhere so you can capture all of the important moments, of course. They're so used to the cameras being around that they're oblivious to them....like on reality shows like Survivor & Real World.

The cams w/o mics are less expensive...so they use those for the interview segments. Vince is a cheap bastard. The other times, they use the nice cams to catch the wrestlers "in the act"

Remember when someone(I forget who) trashed the APA set and then the next week in a totally different area it was trashed in the back?

why do wrestlers show up to shows in Limos, Hummers, Monster Trucks?

To A. Look Cool. B. Get over with fans who like nice cars. C. Look classier than the guy who came in the rental car.

There's probably a security camera outside the parking garage where you can see limos arriving. The guys watching it alert the director, who alerts the announcers, who alerts the interview guys.

Here's another one. Do you have to wait for your music to hit before you come out? I mean some guy is in the ring trash talking you so you take off the production guy yells:

"Wait! I need to que your music up!"

"Come on I'm going to beat his ass!"

"Hold on......damn where is it. Give me a sec."

"But!"

"He'll be there when I get done just hold on!"

"Umm....he left the ring.....they're taking it down! Now I'm going to kill you!"

"Well let me find your music first."

They want to be more over with the fans by calling someone a punk in person. Think about it....if you want to fight someone in high school and you think you're gonna beat this guys ass, you'll say it all loud in the cafeteria. Same mentality.
