How can true Muslims claim Islam as peace loving?

Recommended Posts

Guest EricMM

When I read statements like Chris', I'm always hoping that they were said in jest, or hyperbole.

Especially Canadians. I've always said that people could be pushed over the edge because they live in destitute surroundings, like in Palastine. But CANADA!!? Please. There's nothing to rebel against... You have it damn good in Canada for the most part!

1. Lets see some quotes

Are you kidding me? Sometimes the Bible talks about nothing BUT blood and slaughter. Here's a smattering of advocation for violence (and believe me, this is a relatively small sampling):

So, are there any nice peaceful harmless religions around these days?

Jingus Christ 1, TJH 0.

But I'm no fan of the Christian churches either. I find them very hypocritical.

And also, apart from the Klan (and didn't their leader just get thrown in jail?) no one actually, you know, listens to this crap.

In the Old Testament God is most defienlty described as a vengful god not a mercyful god. These were also very violent times, where death was a part of every day life. This is where Jesus came in, with the whole let he who has not sinned throw the first stone thing. Jesus was somewhat set out to reform the old ways of the Bible, which is why he wasn't recieved to kindly. I don't believe that in the New Testament, Jesus ever advocated violence. Rather you believe that Jesus is the son of God or not, I enjoy his view of Christianity alot more than the darker, stricter Old Testament.

One must also take into account that these books are written by men who lived in these violent times, not by the hand of a supreme being himself. And to think that people wouldn't tamper with these writings over the years, is foolish. Add a few things here, take away a few things here. Religion can be very powerful thing, and many people over the years have fully exploited that fact. In short, I blame men not the religion.

From an outsiders perspective it seems like Christianity and Islam have taken opposing paths since the Crusades. Christianity has evolved, while Islam has been taken over by extremist and become more violent.

I wouldn't say this is necessarily true. I think Christianity has "evolved" simply because it's older than Islam (which I believe didn't even start until around 1000). I'd say Christianity in the time of the Crusades and the Dark Ages was definitely as "extreme" as Islam is now. The only difference between Christianity then and Islam now is the level of weapons technology. I guarantee you if nuclear weapons existed in the time of the Crusades there would not be a Middle East; it'd be a decimated nuclear wasteland, because Christians at that time were fundamentalist, over-zealous, and totally blinded by their religion, as these Muslim extremists are now. Islam hasn't "matured" fast enough to keep up with the world, and as it stands now, I doubt it will on a large scale.

During the time of the crusades it was the Islamic religion and the middleast that provied better education, and culture than Europe. If Islam started in 1000 than that could mean a new religion was more civilized than Christianity. It would seem that Islam did ok for itself in it's early days, but why after over a 1,000 years is it being run by men who have the same mindset of Christians from the 13th Century.

Noooo, a lot of scary people listen to this crap. You'd be very surprised.

Also, to the guy who made the "Osama" comment: you're an idiot. Naming a kid "Osama" in the nation of Islam is like naming someone Steve or John over here.

This thread has been full of some of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen. It's pretty sweet.

No your an idoit. Osama became he most popular name for new born babies after Sept 11th, surpassing the Muhammad. It is not like calling somebody Steve its like a German calling their Adolf during WW2, it is a political act expressing support for the person idenitified with the name.

And as for the comments on this board. Look no one has to respect Islam (or any religion) its up to that person to decide what they think just like it is with any ideology. The fact is that of the Muslims countries only Turkey has reasonable attitudes to women or democracy and that country was and is founded on the near fanatical minimizing of Islam from public life. Now if that what does who live with Islam think of it what does that tell you.

I'm not an expert on the Koran and all that so I hesitate to get involved in the differance between Islam and the Judaeo-Christian faiths but I think there's one. When ever I hear anyone talk about being a Muslim they always talk about how they live in accordance with the rules of Allah/Muhammad they don't talk about their concept of the creation or of heaven/hell. Now maybe I haven't been exposed to this but I get the feeling that this shows a big differance between the faiths. With the Judaeo-Christian faiths the emphasis is on the existence of God but with Islam its on moral codes of behaviour. This means that while scentific advances undermine Judaeo-Christianity as they refute its main tenant they leave Islam relatively undamaged.

"He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." Rev. 22:20-21

Sometimes you got to go to the end of the book to find the Peace and Harmony.

There and only there will you ever find true PEACE AND HARMONY. Once sin is completely done away with.

P.s. Hey Jingus, that was some awesome quoting!!! Right On!!!

And how have scientific advances refuted God's existence?

Science doesn't have the ability to prove or disprove the existence of God.

You are right my friend, it can only point you to Him, but in the end; "You gotta have Faith, Faith, Faith, ohh ya gotta have Faith, Faith, Faith baby!!!"

Dopey, you'd better not turn out to be Sola Gratia. Though if you are, you've certainly picked an appropriate handle.

I don't think that's what Will meant. To me, it seems that he was saying that advances in science have given perfectly rational explanations to things the Bible attributes to the work of God. And that IS true.

Ever see that one Far Side that has God in his chemistry lab? Ah, pure gold. Bubble Boy, offer up some proof of this "God created science" theory and I'll actually buy into it. Until then, you're yet another blind Bible thumper who serves no purpose other than annoying the living shit out of people with open minds.

That's probably a Carlin quote. It sounds really familiar... maybe it was on my day calendar? I dunno. Hmmm... I wonder what Carlin's Christmas quote is, it officially IS the 24th so I can change the calendar date without feeling bad.

Well, if it is, and I should know, I've been unwittingly plagiarizing. But I'll agree it doesn sound familiar. I thought that even as I was typing it.
