Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Kurt Angle won the RSPW voting, getting triple the votes of anyone else. Benoit was second, Eddy 3rd. (Eddy's match with Edge was 5th in MotY, his match with RVD was 6th.) Triple H won Worst Heel AND Worst Babyface. Heh.
Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Yeah, Eddy rocked this world and a few neighbouring ones. His ladder match with RVD is my pick for Match Of The Year, and the fact he carried on despite the crazed fan run-in shows just how great he has been. This year he went from nothing to someone who could believably win the World Title (if booked that way, yeah right), which nobody else has done. Yeah i pick Eddy too, that ladder match was out of this world too bad that on the RAW magazine best 100 moments of the show is not even mentioned ,but guess what true believers that TLC match ,the on e were the big hoss Kane wins made the cut at #100, yup, there are no politics in the WWE. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted December 13, 2002 ahem. Let's see. WWE wrestler of the year is easily Eddie Guerrero. Not even close. HE CARRIED RVD TO A GOOD MATCH AT JUDGMENT DAY. Beat that! So he wins. Angle would be #2. Benoit can be #3 for proving that career threatening injuries don't mean you HAVE TO SUCK when you get back (looks at HHH) For #4 I'm giving it to Jerry Lynn, who has had a great TNA 25 weeks anyway. #5 I'll give to Noble, who is awesome but suffers from lack of competition. #6 I give to Edge...even though I hate him. #7 I'll go with Jeff Jarrett who has become the king of carrying in TNA. #8 I give to Misterio who has been awesome until he ran into the A-train. #9 ...hmm...Brock for carrying Taker and looking better every time. and #10 we give to Jericho who has nothing to work with and looks good doing it. Honerable mentions go to AJ Styles, Low Ki, RVD (the first half of his year was his best), American Dragon (Who I'm sure would be ALOT higher if I had seen more than 2 matches) and the Truth for having the most potential for someone who really can't wrestle (A title he now holds over RVD). Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted December 13, 2002 *Most Valuable Persona to WWE: Paul Heyman (I blinked, and he had gotten Big Show over) Got him over or got him the belt?
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Triple H won Worst Heel AND Worst Babyface. Heh. I guess he wins the bet. Wrestler of the year....Im gonna have to say Eddy. Angle has been really cookie cutterish lately, atleast imho. Brake out star, easy, The Truth. The guy owns TNA, hes carrying a promotion, which no one currently in the WWF can, except RvD maybe. Guest converge241 Report post Posted December 13, 2002 I would have to say Eddy Guerrero then Angle, Lynn, Jericho, Benoit, Styles, Edge, Rey, RVD
Guest creativename Report post Posted December 13, 2002 *Most Valuable Persona to WWE: Paul Heyman (I blinked, and he had gotten Big Show over) Got him over or got him the belt? Got him over. He actually gets a sizeable reaction from the fans now. Who'd a thunk it.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Benoit, Eddy, Rey Rey, Edge, Chavo... I would be good with any of those picks.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted December 13, 2002 anybody have a link to the 2002 rspw awards?
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 14, 2002 What are your guid-lines. The best wrestler is Benoit, by quite a margin, but if you mean "guy who was active for the entire year" I have no idea, and I don't really care, to be quite honest.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Eddy by far. Angle is nearly as good as him as far as wrestling skills, but Angle's been depushed since last year, while Eddy's been on a steady upwards swing.

Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Eddy by far. Angle is nearly as good as him as far as wrestling skills Yikes! What matches are you watching?
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted December 14, 2002 RSPW link Look for this quote: GUERRERO RULES: Eddie Guerrero has consistently been the best worker in the world throughout this year. Jeff Hardy delivered great performances as usual. Chris Jericho never had a better year as a worker Wow. And this voter suggestion is near the bottom of the page: Worst Rookie of the year: John Cena, Jamie Noble and Randy Orton This guy is on crack. Billy & Chuck were also voted 2nd worst tag team, which (IMO) is ridiculous.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 14, 2002 The matches where Angle doesn't build to his big move and can't be asked to consistently sell. Just nit-picking at the style. Or the Eddy-Angle match where Angle wanted to work the mat and Eddy wanted to brawl and Angle's mat work was repetitive and never went anywhere.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Yeah, I thought that's what I was watching, Brian.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I don't know how anyone can watch Eddy and Angle's matches together and call either of them the two best workers in the company. If you watch their meetings together and with other workers (like Rey, for instace) and then compare them to what Benoit has done with the same guys, it's obvious that Benoit is still ahead. Truthfully, I would rather Benoit and the Guerreros drop the shitty WWE style and go to a place where they wouldn't have to be juiced out of their minds to get a push. Guest Brian Report post Posted December 14, 2002 True, but Benoit didn't wrestle as much of the year as Guerrero. My view, it's Guerrero then Benoit barely, followed by Mysterio and then Angle.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 14, 2002 That's why I asked about the guidlines earlier. If it was "active the whole year" then neither Benoit, Guererro, or Rey can get the nod, and it would probably go to Angle. Simply looking at it from a "who performed best?" stand point, I think Benoit is the easy pick.
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I have to go with Eddie too, consistantly great matches throughout the year
Guest blachuuh_monkey Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Wrestler of the year has to be Kurt Angle. He is by far the best all around performer of the year. His in ring work has been amazing has he has ad a crapload of 3 and 4 star matches this year not to mention 4 MOTYC for WWE. His character has also been great all year as his fueds with Edge and Benoit have been great.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Guerrero had two MOTYC with RVD, one with Edge, the tag match, and he'll have one after Sunday with Benoit. I think Eddy's feud with Edge was better than Angle's as it really peaked and hit a boil, from the ringwork to the storytelling, even though it started out weak like Angle's. Angle hit one big note in that feud with their first match, and nothing else was as good.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 15, 2002 I would hardly call the Guerrero/RVD matches MOTYC's, unless you're really big on RVD. As far as I'm concerned, Eddie and Benoit's matches with him were all I needed to see how limited he is, and they weren't able to cover it up, either. Angle and Eddy seem to get praise for having more personality, but I think it's all rather pointless when they can't channel their attitudes into sensible wrestling. Eddie been stuck doing his rudo heel schtik without bothering to get his opponents over, and Angle is basically just as flawed a worker as Edge but with more personality. Benoit falls victim to bad habbits sometimes as well, but not as often. He still finds time to draw in the crowd and tell logical stories with anyone who is willing. Guest Brian Report post Posted December 15, 2002 By WWE standards, I think they'd be MOTYC for this year. Normally and comparitively, they don't really rate as well as the better matches but they're still up there in the standings.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 15, 2002 I understand what you mean, and I suppose you could make a case for both in that regard, I just really didn't enjoy those very much. The ladder match they had on Raw really turned me off. The second pay per view match they had was probably their best, but it was mainly Eddy doing his bumping machine act while RVD went through his catalogue of wacked out indy offense. Just seemed really one-dimensional with Rob hitting several monkey flips that sent Eddy flying damn near across the ring but never building off of them. Just bad transitions and next to no psyche to drive any of it. Maybe I'm just naging on them too much because everyone praised them when they first happened. The ladder match they had on Raw really turned me off. Maybe it turned you off, but that ladder match is easily in my top 10 matches this year, and it was certainly the MOTY to that point in time IMO. And it might still be the best Raw match I saw this year. I suppose you "weren't feeling it" as Mr. Calloway would say, but that shouldn't detract from Eddie. Benoit might be the better worker, but Eddie had the better year.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 15, 2002 "Maybe it turned you off, but that ladder match is easily in my top 10 matches this year, and it was certainly the MOTY to that point in time IMO. And it might still be the best Raw match I saw this year." Best match on Raw, maybe, but that's not a very strong compliment. I remember there being a decent Austin/Angle #1 contenders match leading into No Way Out, but other than that, I think mostly everything on Raw (including the ladder match) is best left forgotten. I strongly dislike RVD's meandering "spot-spot-rest" matches like where he just does lots of wacked out stuff without attempting to draw the crowd in at all or tell a story with any of it. I didn't like it when he did it in ECW, and it reminds me of why I began to hate watching Sabu so much. "I suppose you 'weren't feeling it' as Mr. Calloway would say, but that shouldn't detract from Eddie." I can't really knock Eddy for that performance because I saw what happened when either he or Benoit tried to guide Van Dam through a well-organized match. Still, it's disheartening to see Eddy reduce himself to the Jerry Lynn role of going along with all of RVD's craziness. "Benoit might be the better worker, but Eddie had the better year." How so? Eddy's work this year has been very enjoyable, but most of the time it's just Eddy being Eddy. What I mean by that is, Eddy can get himself over fine but he doesn't leave room for his opponent to establish a role for himself. Eddy bumps like a maniac, but it's usually in a very Michaels-esque way, where he tries to kill himself off every bump and doesn't bother to make one mean anything over the other. Eddy seems to follow a formula most of the time he's out there, and while entertaining, it overshadows Chavo and whoever they may be facing. Benoit is the type of guy who can find a role for himself and his opponent, and draw the fans into both of them as opposed to just getting attention on himself a la Eddy. I'll always have a soft spot for Eddy, and I think he might have been better than Benoit at one point, but I think that time has long since passed him by.
